Michael Bay will oversee production on the live-action remake

Michael Bay and the rest of Platinum Dunes will oversee the launch of a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, according to Deadline New York.

The film marks the first non-horror remake for Platinum Dunes, who will team with Paramount and Nickelodeon to re-adapt the property.

The franchise, which began as a black and white comic book series in 1984, rose to tremendous popularity when it became an animated series in 1987. Following the first live-action film in 1990, the series spawned two live-action sequels, a live-action television series, a second animated series and a CGI feature film.

The scene at the end of issue #1 where Shredder explodes should be EPIC with Bay involved. It's likely we'll see a whole city block blow up.

ugh. michael bay is like the gross fat guy who keeps showing up to orgies in different expensive cars. great, dude, we know you have a lot of money to buy crap nobody cares about. please just go away and leave the rest of us to enjoy our evening. good thing the ninja turtles are stupid, i'd almost be tempted to find out one more piece of information about this movie before abandoning all interest in it whatsoever altogether.

although, i do wonder, given his track record (i'm thinking specifically of the "twins" in transformers 2, which i have not seen, only heard stories about from every single one of my friends) if the renaissance period inspired names of the turtles will be replaced with popular rap artists names, like lil wayne, fifty cent, snoop turtle and kanye, and instead of different color eyemasks, they all wear those football letterman-looking jackets that say "REESES PIECES" or "M&M's". and April is played by one of the WWE Divazzzzzzz, and instead of the evil overlord of a turtle hating ninja family, Shredder is actually Slash, who points his guitar at mountains or the white house or an entire city block, and when he begins to solo, they explode in a firey hellstorm. oh, and it's all cgi except for splinter, who isn't a rat, but actually justin beiber.

The Iron Man duo of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway

In a move that would seem to support one of the details of yesterday's alleged Paramount slate leak, the studio has brought new writers aboard the planned live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, reports Deadline.

Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, two of the names behind the first Iron Man are the team tasked with breathing new life into the franchise which, based on the 1984 comic book by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, has spawned four television series (three animated, one live-action) and four feature films (one animated, three live-action).

The reboot is currently being developed by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and, according to Deadline, the plan is to develop it into a tentpole franchise.

I saw the first TMNT movie on DVD at Wal-Mart for dirt cheap. I was going to buy it for my nephew and also for nostalgic reasons. I saw it in the theaters when I was a kid.

But after looking at the back of it, I passed. I know most Hollywood movies are all about making money, especially ones based on toy lines. But the cheesy commercialism of it made me put it back. MC Hammer? Then the second one had Vanilla Ice? Haha.

Not only did that kind of crap ruin those movies, it also made them look absolutely dated.

I loved the Cartoon and the first series of figures are kind of cool. But TMNT as a whole (toyline, everything) jumped the shark early on.

I won't get into all the rest of this because we obviously massively differ in opinion, but yes TMNT did have a lot of commercialism. That said, MC Hammer wasn't in TMNT. He did a single song on the soundtrack. That was hardly a case of TMNT selling out to popular trends. That's like saying you can't buy a DVD of Forrest Gump because it has a Mamas and the Papas song on it, or something.

The original TMNT film remains not only one of the best interpretations of the TMNT, but easily one of the top ten comic to film adaptations.

That's your opinion, but to me?

That's what makes the '80s and early '90s version of the Turtles so friggin' awesome. I don't care how many times they try to bring the Turtles back for a new generation; they will likely never achieve the notoriety they did in that time period. They represent that time period so well.

If you loved the cartoon - which couldn't be further from the way that the Turtles were originally imagined and is infinitely cheesier than the film in question - there's no reason why you can't buy that DVD.

As announced last year, Paramount, Nickelodeon and Platinum Dunes are teaming for a reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, Deadline reports that Josh Appelbaum and Andrew Nemec have come aboard the project for a rewrite.

Previously, Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were assigned to draft the project. It is unknown whether or not Appelbaum and Nemec, whose upcoming Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol is also housed at Paramount, will perform a page one rewrite or if they will update the Marcum and Holloway draft.

Previously, Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were assigned to draft the project with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol's Josh Appelbaum and Andrew Nemec taking over last year. It is still unknown whether they performed a page one rewrite or if they updated the Marcum and Holloway draft.

Paramount Pictures has rearranged its upcoming schedule, setting the Platinum Dunes reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Christmas Day, 2013.

Still without a confirmed director, it was recently hinted that Wrath of the Titans' Jonathan Liebesman would potentially helm.

Platinum Dunes' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Feature Alien Origin

Just announced for a Christmas Day, 2013 release last week, Platinum Dunes' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to feature a very non-traditional origin for its reptilian heroes. In fact, producer Michael Bay hints that the turtles may not be mutants at all.

Word arrives via Stuff We Like and a video of Bay speaking at last week's Nickelodeon Upfront in New York where he states:

"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

To be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will feature a script from Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco.

Michael Bay Responds to Fans About Making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Aliens

This weekend, we reported on Michael Bay's quotes from Nickelodeon's Upfront about his company Platinum Dunes' upcoming live-action adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

He said: "When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

Naturally, fans weren't too happy to hear that the turtles were now going to be 'an alien race' and there was a lot of negative feedback.

Michael Bay has now responded to the feedback on his official site with the following:

"Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

Paramount Pictures is planning a December 25, 2013 release date for the film.

Translation: Too bad, get over it I'm going to do what I want.

Chill? Really Michael Bay? I actually wasn't going to bash the alien news until I saw this. It's like a two year old mad that someone told him no.

Who cares if you're working with someone who created it... I like how he doesn't name Eastman or Laird in that statement Makes me wonder just who it is... and besides... taking away their connection to Daredevil... shame on him!
