DisneyToon Studios has announced that a new CG animated film titled Planes is coming to home video in spring of 2013. It will be an extension of the Cars world:
The sky's the limit as DisneyToon Studios proudly announces PLANES – a spectacular, full-length CG animated comedy action adventure movie for everyone set high above the world of CARS. PLANES will introduce an entirely original and hilarious crew of daredevils from every corner of the globe and draws inspiration from the immensely popular Disney•Pixar’s CARS world. PLANES will arrive on Blu-ray™ and DVD in Spring 2013.
“We had such a great time exploring the world of ‘Cars’ over the course of two films, so it seemed only natural for us to see where our imaginations would take us in a film where planes were the main characters. By expanding the Cars world, ‘Planes’ gave us a whole new set of fun-filled situations and a great opportunity to introduce some fantastic new characters,” commented John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. “The team at DisneyToon Studios has done such an amazing job creating a heartfelt story filled with great comedy, adventure, and emotion. I know audiences are going to love taking off into the wild blue yonder with these daredevil characters, as they experience a whole new kind of animated adventure.”
PLANES takes off with an international cast of the fastest air racers around, in a comedy packed with action and adventure starring Dusty, a small town dreamer who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race … despite his fear of heights. With the help and support of a fleet of new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life.
Fasten your seatbelt as more information on PLANES will be arriving shortly.

Where's my Incredibles 2?
WOW! I thought I was the only one who thought this. The game actually continued the story DIRECTLY from the film (which is rare), but still left me wanting more. I love that movie, and don't know why Disney waits so long on some and not nearly long enough on others.
Get to work on Incredibles 2 Dixar!

Walt Disney Pictures announced today that their upcoming animated film Planes will see a release theatrically on August 9, 2013.
Originally planned for a direct-to-home video release, Planes is an extension of the world featured in Cars and Cars 2.
Planes follows Dusty, a small town dreamer who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race... despite his fear of heights. With the help and support of a fleet of new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life.
The August 9 release date puts Planes up against Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi tale Elysium and the New Line comedy We're the Millers.

Wow-- they really cant make their mind up on this (ive seen the plans (before the release date was added)-- jump back and forth multiple times- Actually as recent as the Brave Blu Ray release they had this previewed as coming straight to home video-- Something set for DTV release will definitely not be the best thing to release in the theatres-- I think the quality of the film will be on the level of the CARSTOONS- (not to mention I think the main voice is Dave Foley (again ) -- The only reason for this releasing at the theatres will be for the merchandising, I wonder if Mattel bribed them to release this theatrically.
I think there were plans originally to do a Boats and a Trains as a DTV release as well..

Then again, Toy Story 2 and 3 were both planned as DTVs, too.
This is true about Toy Story 2 but not for Toy Story 3. At least not the Toy Story 3 that Pixar wound up making.
Edit: And there's a "Boats" and a "Trains" coming? I can see Boats working but how are they going to pull off Trains in a world with no human characters? Won't the characters be limited exclusively to places where there are train tracks? I'm trying to understand the logic behind this.

Like I said - just rumors-- I dont remember where I read it-- and they have created characters like the spy train, and several others throughout the movies--- Thomas the Tank does it-- dont see why disney/pixar couldnt... They have done several Train characters before-- Casey Jr. , Little Engine that could.. Plus Im sure that they could be transporting other cars characters... could make it a transcontinental race-- or use vs. Monorails/Mag Levs vs Freight Trains in a John Henry or Tortise vs. the Hare kind of story-- New comer vs. Old style-- they used it plenty of times already in Toy Story and the original Cars..

After watching that footage I think I can say that no matter how good or bad the story/idea/concept may be there should be some absolutely amazing 3D flying sequences.
