Burton, August & Depp Reteam on Dark Shadows

Source: comingsoon.net

June 2, 2008

IESB.net has learned, via an interview with director Peter Segal, that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and "Corpse Bride" team of Tim Burton, John August and Johnny Depp are reuniting for Dark Shadows.

Burton will reportedly direct the Warner Bros. feature based on the '60s supernatural TV show from a script by August. Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and GK Films are producing and Depp has had interest in playing Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

Dark Shadows' Bright Future

Depp-Burton's next reunion will reportedly shoot in the spring.

October 7, 2010

by Jim Vejvoda

The oft-delayed big screen version of the vampire TV series cult classic Dark Shadows is finally headed before cameras.

According to Deadline, the picture -- which will be the seventh reunion of director Tim Burton and star Johnny Depp -- will start shooting in February.

Depp will play the vampire Barnabas Collins. He is also producing the film along with Graham King.

Author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) penned the screenplay adaptation of the '60s supernatural soap opera.

Warner Bros. has slated Dark Shadows for a 2013 release in traditional theaters and in IMAX.

Dark Shadows Descend on Burton, Depp Next Spring

Source: shocktillyoudrop.com

November 4, 2010

It's not groundbreaking news, by any means - since all previous updates have been pointing to this - but Deadline is reporting Dark Shadows is now gearing up to start production next April.

Originally, a January start was planned but scheduling has been difficult.

Nevertheless, shooting will begin next spring based on a recent script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Tim Burton will direct and Johnny Depp will play Barnabas Collins.

And the Dark Shadows Casting Begins

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

February 2, 2011

It's widely known that Johnny Depp is producing and starring in the Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows, but what about the rest of the cast?

Deadline received early word that Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Watchmen) and Bella Heathcoate are in talks to play Willie Loomis and Victoria Winters, respectively.

Loomis is a con artist turned vampire servant for Barnabas Collins, a role filled by Depp. If cast, Heathcoate a young governess for the Collins estate.

A lot of news breaking at Deadline, according to some of our studio sources, say is happening way too early in casting negotiations (agencies are using the site to gain some footing for their clients), so take this as rumor for right now.

Editor Chris Lebenzon on Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows

Source: The Hollywood Reporter, ComingSoon

February 20, 2011

Longtime Tim Burton editor Chris Lebenzon talked about Frankenweenie at the ACE Eddie Awards. He says they are currently storyboarding the film, which will be shot in stop-motion format, in black-and-white, and in 3D.

"It is a very sensitive movie, it speaks to a lot of our childhood fantasies," Lebenzon said, "The theme is the same -- the boy brings his dog back to life. In this one he gets the idea from a certain place, he has a lot of friends who do the same thing, they're in a big contest. I think it has grown to be more of a feature world."

Disney will release Frankenweenie, featuring the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer, on October 5, 2012.

Lebenzon also briefly talked about Burton's Dark Shadows adaptation. He starts work on the project in May and says it's "terrific. They got it right." He added that "It's a relationship movie. It's a lot of interaction of characters, from past and present."

Filming Begins on Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

Source: ComingSoon

May 18, 2011

Filming begins this week on Warner Bros. Pictures' and Village Roadshow Pictures' Dark Shadows, which brings the cult classic television series to the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. The film's all-star ensemble cast includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and newcomer Gulliver McGrath.

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Burton is directing and producing Dark Shadows from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith, story by John August and Grahame-Smith, based on the television series created by Dan Curtis. Also producing are Oscar® winner Richard D. Zanuck (Alice in Wonderland, Driving Miss Daisy), continuing his long association with Burton; Oscar® winner Graham King (Rango, The Departed), continuing his collaboration with Depp; Johnny Depp, Christi Dembrowski, and David Kennedy. The executive producers are Chris Lebenzon, Nigel Gostelow, Tim Headington, and Bruce Berman.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel, Oscar®-winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (Sleepy Hollow), Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland) and editor Chris Lebenzon (Alice in Wonderland). The score will be composed by Danny Elfman.

Dark Shadows is being filmed entirely in England, both at Pinewood Studios and on location.

Dark Shadows will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Burton Offers a Dark Shadows Shooting Update

Source: ComingSoon

May 31, 2011

The LACMA has begun hosting a Tim Burton exhibit in Los Angeles, showcasing props, early writings and artwork from the filmmaker. TheWrap caught up to Burton on the event's opening night and he commented on how shooting Dark Shadows was progressing:

"I'm just starting, and it's a weird tone and it's a lot of actors and, you know, we're not starting with the simple stuff; we're sort of getting right in there. You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it. [asked if it will have a soap opera quality] Yes, I don't know. I'm early into it because it's a funny tone, and that's part of what the vibe of the show is, and there's something about it that we want to get. But when you look at it, it's pretty bad. I'm hoping that it will be — it's early days, let's put it — I'm very intrigued by the tone. It's a real ethereal tone we're trying to go for and I don't know yet."

He also added that he is not shooting the film for 3D.

Dark Shadows stars an ensemble cast which includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath. The film is scheduled for a May 11, 2012 release.

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

June 28, 2011

Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper jammed together on stage in England, playing cooper hits "I'm Eighteen" and "School's Out" together, reports the official site for Cooper.

What brought these two together, besides their Freddy's Dead past? Perhaps Dark Shadows.

Says Cooper's site: "Johnny is in London working on the new Tim Burton movie Dark Shadows, and Alice is rumored to have a cameo part in the film as well..."

Cooper and Dark Shadows is a great fit. Who would he play? Werewolf? Vampire? Just a maniac?
