Total Recall to Film in Toronto

Source: comingsoon.net

December 23, 2010

Len Wiseman's reboot of Total Recall is set to shoot at Pinewood Toronto in Canada, according to a report by The Toronto Star.

Said to be the largest production that the city has ever hosted, Total Recall is based on the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film, in turn based on the short story by Phillip K. Dick, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale."

While the original film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, no casting has as-of-yet been confirmed for the Wiseman project though, as The Toronto Star points to a production start date of March, 2011, official word should be forthcoming.

New Details on the Total Recall Reboot

Source: comingsoon.net

January 10, 2011

With the Total Recall reboot starting soon at Columbia Pictures, Collider got a chance to sit down with both producer Neal Moritz and Colin Farrell (who Moritz confirmed was starring in the film).

Farrell told the site that the script is "cool. Script is smart." He added that "There's a good bit of action. I don't know that it's... it kind of sits on the fence in a really good way. It kind of sticks to one half or the other. It's clever. It's clever and it's well written. And there's loads of action. I saw some of pre-visualizations already, that have been done for the world that they're going to create and it's wicked man."

Moritz revealed that filming starts on May 15 in Toronto but that the project won't be shot in 3D.

To be based on Philip K. Dick's "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" (on which the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie was based), the film will be directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, Underworld) from a script by Kurt Wimmer.

Moritz told the site about Wiseman's vision:

"I think the world that Len Wiseman is creating is incredible. It's a real world, a real future world, where the cities have just gotten so overcrowded that the cities are just built up, up, up, up... We're playing it like a real world, but there's all these technological advancements to the real world, and it's just really, it's cool. It's an awesome movie."

Collider said that a few other interesting bits Moritz mentioned included the movie will be closer to the book and the big difference with the Schwarzenegger film is that they are not going to space. He also added that "there's something that takes us from one side of the planet to another that's really interesting."

Total Recall Now Casting Female Leads

Source: ComingSoon

March 22, 2011

As Len Wiseman's Total Recall gears up for production, casting is underway for the film's two female leads and, thanks to a report at Deadline, we now have an idea of who's been reading for what role.

The film, based on the 1990 Paul Verhoeven adaptation of the short Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," features two key female parts, Lori (Sharon Stone in the original) and Melina (Rachel Ticotin).

Currently vying for the part of Lori are Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger with Eva Mendes, Paula Patton, Jessica Biel and Eva Green in contention for the Melina part. Deadline's article notes that, though Mendes has been reading for Melina, she could foreseeably win the Lori role instead.

The original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, a man who, after buying implanted memories of a vacation to Mars, begins to remember experiences tied to an elaborate conspiracy.

The remake is currently eyeing an August 3, 2012 release.

Cranston in Talks to Play Total Recall Villain

Source: ComingSoon

March 30, 2011

ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") is in talks to play the villain in Columbia Pictures' Total Recall reboot. The news was first reported by Variety.

He would be joining Colin Farrell in the Len Wiseman-directed film, scheduled to hit theaters on August 3, 2012.

Philip K. Dick's short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" served as the source for the 1990 film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. The updated screenplay is being written by Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt. Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Films.

Heat Vision has more on the storyline:

"The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side.

Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai."

Cranston will be appearing in a lot of upcoming movies, including Larry Crowne, Contagion and John Carter of Mars.

Nighy, Beckinsale and Biel Join Total Recall

Source: ComingSoon

May 26, 2011

Heat Vision and Collider are reporting that Bill Nighy is joining the cast of Columbia Pictures' Total Recall, while the rumored Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel have been confirmed as well.

They will be joining Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston in the Len Wiseman-directed reimagining, in which Ethan Hawke has a cameo role. Filming is scheduled to start on Monday in Toronto for an August 3, 2012 release.

The new film "ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn't know for which side."

Nighy will play Quatto, the leader of the resistance, Beckinsale is playing Lori, Biel will portray Melina and Cranston is the villain.

The short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick served as the source for the 1990 adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.

John Cho Joins Total Recall

Source: ComingSoon

May 26, 2011

It's been a busy casting week for Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall. EW reports that John Cho is the latest member to join the cast of the Columbia Pictures film.

A remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven adaptation of the short Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," the original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid (to be played by Colin Farrell in this version), a man who, after buying implanted memories of a vacation, begins to remember experiences tied to an elaborate conspiracy. The new version is said to leave out the interplanetary aspect of the plot and will not, as the original did, feature the planet Mars.

Cho will play McClane, a salesman for the virtual vacation company. In the original, the part was played by Ray Baker.

The Star Trek actor joins Farrell, Bryan Cranston and, just revealed yesterday, Bill Nighy, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. Ethan Hawke is also said to appear in a cameo role.

Total Recall is currently eyeing an August 3, 2012 release
