Mad Max 4 Back On?
Miller may make Fury Road and JLA concurrently.
October 25, 2007 - The long-dead Mad Max 4 (a.k.a. Fury Road) has reportedly been resurrected in the hopes of finally going before cameras sometime in the coming year. George Miller, who helmed the first three Mad Max movies starring Mel Gibson, has long been attached to direct the fourth installment.
According to Moviehole.net, Mad Max 4 "has finally got a greenlight, with pre-production commencing immediately. It sounds as if Miller will be working on this film, and Justice League concurrently - the latter is also set up at Fox Studios as well as Happy Feet 2."
Gibson will reportedly not reprise his role as Mad Max and a new actor will be cast as the lead. Moviehole says that Mad Max 4 will likely film in Namibia; the filmmakers had hoped to shoot there a few years back before the project was scuttled.
Miller starts shooting Justice League of America in Australia this spring, but Moviehole's sources advise them that Mad Max 4 could very likely beat the FX-heavy superhero flick into theaters.
The final installment will be furnished with some sweet FX and design.

Weta Digital, the visual effects team behind LOTR, Avatar and District 9 – among others – has officially signed onto another highly-anticipated project.
The New Zealand-based company just announced their involvement in Mad Max: Fury Road, the final installment of the Mad Max franchise. Weta will be responsible for special effects makeup, costumes, conceptual development, dummies, and other design tasks.
This George Miller-directed flick, starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, is set for a 2012 release.
It seems there's both good news and bad news surrounding the upcoming franchise action-film Mad Max 4: Fury Road.
The good news is that according to director George Miller, the film will be shot with revolutionary 3D rigs and cameras developed by Miller and the Dalsa Corporation.
"We are doing 3D on Fury Road-- we are shooting with real 3D cameras," Miller told Inside Film. "Seven years ago we were going to shoot in 3D but the technology in cinemas wasn't geared for it then but I always loved 3D."
Lord of the Rings FX powerhouse Weta Digital has also been confirmed to be taking on the film's conceptual designs, specialty make-up FX and costuming -- though the project is looking at a delayed shooting start, which brings us to the bad news:
The Australian reports that production has been postponed from its original November start date until February 2011, potentially leaving the cast and crew to scramble for other work arrangements in the meantime.
While the cause of this delay is unconfirmed, Internet buzz suggests the slowdown is due to Miller taking on more than he's equipped to handle. Apparently, Miller is trying to film not just one Mad Max film but two -- all in one sweep of production.
Not only is the delay causing problems for the crew and Australian production companies, but Miller's work on Mad Max has also caused a slow down in the development of one of his other franchises -- Babe 3.
Meanwhile, Miller is already working on another 3D project, Happy Feet 2, which is scheduled for a 2011 release.
Aussie's ABC (via Moviehole) reports that 22-year-old Gold Coast freestyler Annabelle Williams will be a stunt double for Charlize Theron's character in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road. Here are several excerpts from the article:
In December last year, the producers of the yet-to-be-completed film were looking for an athletic, blonde woman with half an arm to be the stunt double for one of Hollywood's most glamorous women.
It was a perfect match for Williams, whose left arm ends just below the elbow.
In the film, Theron's character will have part of one arm missing. Williams will fill in for the Academy Award-winner during a fight scene.
"They are going to film me from a very long distance for the fighting so that they don't have to CGI out her arm.
"I will be her, but just not [in] the face."
Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Adelaide Clemens and Riley Keough.
The Australian is reporting that filming for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road has been delayed further and pre-production may not even continue until August or November of 2011.
"The delay has left many major film crew members without work amid fears the high Australian dollar could ultimately kill the film as its budget grows," says the newspaper.
Production is now anticipated to begin in the Broken Hill region in February 2012.
It's the second delay for the film. In July, Kennedy Miller Productions said unseasonal rains had made the Broken Hill area too fertile and production was put back to later this year.
Mad Max: Fury Road is expected to star Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Adelaide Clemens and Riley Keough.
Production on the long-in-development Mad Max sequels (tentatively to be shot back-to-back and entitled Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa) has been pushed into early 2012. Australia's The Daily Telegraph has the update, straight from director George Miller.
"We've built the vehicles," Miller says, "We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait."
The new aim is now to begin shooting in January 2012, thanks to unpredictable rains that have temporarily ruined the desert environment of the Australian outback.
Tom Hardy (who will now move into production for The Dark Knight Rises) will take over the role made famous by Mel Gibson and is expected to act opposite Charlize Theron.
Miller, meanwhile, is currently in production on Happy Feet 2, slated for release on November 18th of his year.

It's hard to tell at this point how extreme Theron's final look will be for the film, but it's definitely exciting to see that the long-awaited project is finally moving forward. Check back for details as they become available.

After six months, the new Mad Max film Mad Max: Fury Road has completed principal photography (via If.com.au). The bulk of the film's production was in Namibia and South Africa.
"Fury Road" is the fourth film in the Mad Max series and the first entry in over twenty-five years. It features Tom Hardy in the role of Max Rockatansky alongside Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa. George Miller is directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris.
According to Miller, "Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived."
Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max, Sleeping Beauty) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (Conan the Barbarian) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) plays Toast, Riley Keough (Magic Mike) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior.
The cast is rounded out by well-known Australian actors John Howard, Richard Carter, supermodel Megan Gale, Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic.
