OK. I want to believe. I really do.

A few episodes back on the Nerdist podcast, Gillian Anderson was on and they all started talking about how now is a perfect time to get the gang back together for an Xfiles re-launch. Gillian was all in and suggested they do a twitter push with the hashtag #Xfiles2015.

Since then, it has been picked up by some other "major" news outlets like Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, and some online exclusive places.

David Duchovney has stepped up and said he would be in.

Chris Carter is apparently still into the brand and would be wiling to come back.

So, the big push now is to get Fox back on board (since they retained the rights).

What do you all think? Should this happen? Even if everyone signs on and it gets a green light from Fox (which is a very big IF granted), we won't see this in 2015 only because of the time it takes to produce a show like this. But wouldn't it be great to be able to turn on your tv in the near future and see a lineup of Twin Peaks and XFiles?

I want to believe.

No. Unless the entire thing takes place during the alien invasion I think they should just do one more movie to wrap it up. Chris Carter has been notoriously stingy with spaceship battles and if he does another series he'll probably wind up ignoring the Mayan calendar which would suck.

They need to do one final movie, and wrap up the mythology and the franchise for good. Unlike Twin Peaks I am not aboard a series relaunch. I do not trust Chris Carter.

Edit: To put it another way, as badly as Twin Peaks ended, Lynch still has credibility on the subject. When it comes to The X-Files, Carter does not. He sees multiple movie stars in his eyes and refuses to give the fans the end to the narrative we deserve. X-Files should NEVER have been an evergreen property like a superhero comic, or a soap opera, or even Star Trek. It's all about Mulder and Scully and those two characters deserve to have their stories finished. And I'm sick of Carter screwing us around about that.

The X-Files is Coming Back to FOX as a Limited Series!

Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of “The X-Files,” a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of “The X-Files.” Production on “The X-Files” event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of ‘The X-Files’ — one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers — and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “‘The X-Files’ was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as ‘The X-Files,’ and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

“The X-Files” originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, “The X-Files” is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.

LOVE the idea of a limited series. I am officially on-board. I REALLY hope they use it to actually wrap the dang thing up. A proper ending is long overdue.

Chris Carter: ‘I’d like to bring everyone possible back’ to The X-Files

ShockTillYouDrop

March 27th 2015, 12:14 pm

Twin Peaks! Coach! The X-Files! All our favorite shows are coming back, the latter of which always seemed to make the most sense. After all, The X-Files affords endless possibilities and unexplainable mysteries for Scully & Mulder to probe. Now that their return is official, just what can viewers and fans expect? Series creator Chris Carter has spoken out a bit, teasing heavy but revealing a bit about returning players, where the revival will stand and the nature of the episodes.

Calling it a mix of mythology and standalone episodes, Chris Carter discussed the impending X-Files resurrection with X-Files News. Hitting a series of bullets, Carter says the six-episode event will be present-set, explaining, “We’re going to tell X-Files the way that we’ve always told them; we will of course set them in the time and place that they exist. We’re telling contemporary stories about contemporary situations, true to Mulder and Scully’s characters and their relationship and the passage of time.”

Putting the series in the present seems to leave X-Files news with questions about 2012 and ‘colonization.’ Carter says, “I’ve thought about that. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to address it, in a big way, a mild way, a modern way, a mention or a plot point. And of course you can’t avoid to deal with the William (arc) in some way or another.”

On the cast and crew tip meanwhile, many will be excited hear Carter herald the return of Glen Morgan and James Wong, describing Morgan as being in a producing position and saying, “We’ve lured Darin Morgan and Jim Wong, we’re very excited about that and we’re working on the rest.” As for cast, he teases, “I have ideas for everyone.”

The X-Files is expected to shoot this summer in Vancouver.

Is Carter seriously thinking of ignoring the Mayan calendar plot point? And just like that my interest is out the window. The only reason I want the friggin' show to come back in the FIRST place is colonization. Chris Carter does not play fair with his audience.

David Duchovny Announces Skinner, Smoking Man X-Files Return

SuperHeroHype

Apr 01, 2015

Now that the “X-Files” revival is real-deal, its momentum has not let up. On the heels of Chris Carter’s comments that he’d like to bring everyone possible back, star David Duchovny revealed on David Letterman that intent just might come to fruition.

Appearing on “The Late Show,” Duchovny spoke to “The X-Files'” six-episode event return. Asked if original cast will be back, he says, “There’s Gillian and I, we’re original. Mitch Pileggi will come back, and the cigarette-smoking man — if that means anything to anyone — will be coming back.” Pileggi, of course, essayed FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner throughout the series’ nine-season run, while The Smoking Man was portrayed by William B. Davis, who was a villainous, rivalrous presence from the beginning.

Less official is TV Wise’s report that both Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick are slated to return. Both actors were introduced as main characters in “The X-Files'” eighth season, playing special agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett, respectively. The site stresses no deals are in place.

“The X-Files” shoots this summer in Vancouver. Carter has teased the new iteration will be a mix of standalone cases and mythology episodes.

Though star David Duchovny revealed earlier this month that he would be returning for the upcoming revival, “The X-Files” star Mitch Pileggi confirmed on Twitter today that he’ll be back as Walter Skinner.

Pileggi made his debut appearance as Assistant Director Skinner in Episode 20 of the show and would go on to appear in 81 episodes of the nine season series.

“The X-Files” is set to return on FOX as a limited event series with production slated to begin this summer. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to re-inhabite their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Previous reports also indicate that William B. Davis’ Cigarette-Smoking Man and Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick’s special agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett are also set to return, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

I really like the idea of Doggett and Reyes returning. It shows Carter sticking by his actors despite how unpopular the characters were. I wish more TV producers were willing to show more solidarity with their casts (I'm looking at you, David E. Kelley).

Although Joel McHale will maybe probably maybe be back as Jeff Winger should “Community” return for a seventh season on Yahoo! Screen, Deadline is today reporting that the actor has joined the cast of FOX’s six-episode revival of “The X-Files.” According to the outlet, McHale will play the recurring role of Tad O’Malley, said to be, “the anchor of a popular conservative internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.”

McHale joins stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, returning as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively. Mitch Pileggi also confirmed that he’ll be back as Walter Skinner. Previous reports indicate that William B. Davis’ Cigarette-Smoking Man and Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick’s special agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett are also set to return, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

New Photos from The X-Files Revival!

SuperHeroHype

Jun 25, 2015

It feels like it has been a pretty rapid turnaround for the return of FOX’s iconic series “The X-Files. Officially announced back in March, six new episodes are on their way to the network in 2016 and, with production already well underway, EW is today sharing a number of brand-new images from the show’s return. In the gallery viewer below, you can check out new shots of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (including a magazine cover photo), images of guest stars Annet Mahendru (“Homeland”) and Joel McHale (“Community”), the title page of the first new episode (“My Struggle”), and series creator Chris Carter working behind the scenes!

Mitch Pileggi will also be returning as Walter Skinner with William B. Davis back as the Cigarette-Smoking Man. Rumors that Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick will reprise their roles as special agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett persist, although their involvement has not yet been confirmed. There’s also the potential for The Lone Gunmen (Bruce Harwood’s Byers, Tom Braidwood’s Frohike and Dean Haglund’s Langly) to appear as well. Although the trio was apparently killed off in the ninth season episode “Jump the Shark,” the currently-running IDW comic book series has revealed that the Gunmen are secretly alive and well. Whether or not that continuity will tie in any way to the new series, however, remains to be seen.

Mahendru’s character, Sveta, is said to be a repeat alien abductee. Also pictured in the gallery below is Sveta’s house.

Retconning "Jump the Shark"? Yes, please. One of the most idiotic episodes ever. And considering that occurred in the same season Scully gave William up for adoption that is a statement.
