Jason Segel was on hand for a gathering of actors from 20th Century Fox produced comedy series yesterday, to support his series How I Met Your Mother. We had the chance to speak to Segel and got an update on the currently filming The Muppets, which Segel stars in and wrote with Nicholas Stoller.
Question: How are things going with The Muppets?
Jason Segel: It's going fantastic. We have about a month left. I just couldn't be prouder. I feel like I've tricked everybody! We have several people who've worked with Meryl Streep in this movie. More than one Oscar winner! It's really insane. So to watch people I admire sing and dance and play with puppets just… It truly is a dream come true.
Q: We've heard the names of some of the cameos. Can you speak about who we might see?
Segel: I'm sworn to secrecy. But Jack Black is in it. Emily Blunt it in it. And a whole list of… I just can't believe these people agreed to do the movie. But it's really amazing when you see what they're doing.
Q: Were you involved in getting these people to cameo?
Segel: Some of them, yeah. We all called our friends. And then there was a whole thing about when people have kids, they want to be part of a movie that their kids will grow up on and watch. So it wasn't that hard to get people.
Q: You're a huge fan of the Muppets. Will there be specific references to The Muppet Show or the previous movies?
Segel: The original pantheon for me is The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan. And so we do have some references to those three. But it is definitely like a late 70s/early 80s tone, set in the modern day.

Where the hell have I been? They're almost done making it, and I'm just now hearing about it... They must have the same people as Matty's JLU team in China keeping secrets.
I'm excited about this.

AWESOME!
now if only disney would release seasons 4 & 5 of the muppet show. what the hell is taking so long?
Id like to say they are due as fast as Gargoyles season 2 Part 2--
However I believe the real delay is getting all the music copyrights and permissions and such for DVD release-- somtimes it gets too expensive-- (same thing held up all the SNL releases- and killed Cold Case- from even being released).. I think they cut a few skits because of this in the first 3 releases..

A new promo photo for Disney's The Muppets has been released and can be viewed below. The photo features executive producer, co-writer and star Jason Segel with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
The film, currently shooting in Los Angeles, is scheduled to hit theaters on November 23 and also stars Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis, Kathy Griffin, Ricky Gervais and Emily Blunt.
Walt Disney Pictures has taken an interesting approach with their first trailer for the upcoming The Muppets and, if you were in the theater this weekend for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, you may have caught the below ad for the film-within-a-film, Green With Envy (which also has a fake poster, featured below).
Directed by James Bobin with a script by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, the November 23rd release stars Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and many, many more.
The focus of the story is Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Segel) and Mary (Adams), Together, they discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

The hardest part of going to see this movie, for me, will be to see everyone on screen without Jim Henson's voice and character behind everything.
I know Frank Oz and the new crew will take care of things and keep them all in good hands, but the absence will be felt.
Aside from Mel Blanc, is there anyone else out there who really was part and parcel of the character(s) right down to the their very core (figuratively and literally)?
