Marvel Studios Plans Massive Small Screen Expansion

by SuperHeroHype

October 14, 2013

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking especially bright on the small screen. Following the full season pick-up of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." last week and rumors of a proposed Agent Carter spinoff series comes word, via Deadline, that a 60-episode package is being shopped around to cable networks and VOD distributors. It is said to include four dramas and a miniseries of some sort, although specific details are currently being kept top secret.

Although plans for a 60-episode commitment are virtually unheard of, the outlet hints that Marvel is looking to break new ground with their approach and that the package could ultimate go directly to Netflix, Amazon or WGN America. By planning 60 episodes from the beginning, it's a good bet that Marvel is looking to construct some character and/or plot crossovers within the five new shows.

Check back for details as soon as they become available and be sure to throw out your own suggestions for Marvel properties you'd like to see on the small screen in the comments below!

This is awesome. Like a lot of Marvel fans, I'd love to see Marvel Knights themed shows. Heroes for Hire is the first thing that comes to mind. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Shang Chi, etc. Pretty much anything in Hell's Kitchen would do well. Cloak and Dagger, Daredevil, Elektra, Dr Strange...

That would be cool. Love the Heroes for Hire. Would be cool to see maybe Cable and XForce or the New Mutants perhaps.

Yep. Heroes for Hire is the first thing that comes to mind for me too. It'd certainly fit that street level heroics that would work on the small screen. New Warriors or Runaways would seem to be a close second.

I have said for many years that Daredevil is perfect for TV. Courtroom drama by day, vigilante justice at night. Not to mention smokin' hot babes like Elektra and Widow as love interests.

Can't wait for the first TV continuality errors to crop up. What will be the 21st century No Prize?

As long as the quality is good, I think this'll be a hit.

Ooh hadn't thought of Daredevil. He'd be another good one.

Somebody - Newsarama I think - had a list of properties that would be GREAT for TV. I'll have to see if I can dig it up, because I agreed with every one of them.

Wow that was easier than I thought lol...

http://www.newsarama.com/15599-which-ma ... to-tv.html

1. Moon Knight
2. Dr Strange
3. AKA Jessica Jones
4. Heroes for Hire
5. Mockingbird
6. Cloak and Dagger
7. Avengers Academy
8. Runaways
9. S.W.O.R.D.

I'm not sold on Sword, and Dr Strange seems more like a big screen property. But the rest? Pretty spot on.

Punisher and Elektra would go hand in hand with Daredevil, and would have a ton of crossover potential.

I really dont think he would work for a family disney series-- Cable network sure--but no way that would ever make it to ABC. Its Dexter with a gun, and hes not a secret..

I think those have the best chance. Cloak would be tough to duplicate without a lot of CGI (we wouldn't want a repeat of "The Cape" would we?). Same goes for Avengers Academy and Runaways (the dinosaur would be hard to do right consistently).

Personally, I would start with Daredevil and use it as a backdoor pilot for Luke Cage/Iron Fist. They may have to alter their modus operandi to Bounty Hunters instead of Heroes for Hire, though.

Punisher would be an excellent HBO/Starz type show. Kinda like the Blade series from a few years back on Spike. Gritty, bloody, R-rated type stuff.
