Marvel Studios Hires Black Panther Writer

by SuperHeroHype

Jan 20th, 2011

Mark Bailey is set to pen the script

Marvel Studios has hired Mark Bailey to write the script for The Black Panther, reports Heat Vision.

Bailey hails from the documentary film world and his credits include HBO documentaries such as "Pandemic: Facing AIDS" and "Ghost of Abu Ghraib." The trade says his latest project is a feature adaptation of the non-fiction book "The Last of the Tribe: The Epic Quest to Save a Lone Man in the Amazon," to which Doug Liman is attached to direct.

The Black Panther first appeared in the pages of the "Fantastic Four" comic in 1966. The character is the king of a resource-rich fictional African country who becomes a superhero.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige is producing.

For a movie that almost writes itself, this has faced more setbacks than is conceivable. I really don't know why Black Panther can't ever get off the ground.

Is Black Panther the Next Solo Marvel Movie?

by SuperHeroHype

June 05, 2012

There has been much speculation as to what "Phase 2" of Marvel Studios' film slate will consist of, but up until now there have been no confirmed reports.

Latino Review is reporting that next big solo movie after Captain America 2 (April 4, 2014) will be none other than The Black Panther. Could this be the untitled May 16, 2014 release? Back in January of 2011, Mark Bailey was brought on to pen the script and if this holds up, it seems we'll be getting the film after all.
With no official word from Disney/Marvel Studios for now, still consider this a rumor, but we will let you know as soon as we hear anything official.

Who do you think should play The Black Panther in the possible movie?

Mehcad Brooks. End of story. Make it so.

Terry Crews? From Expendables, the Friday movies, and Everybody Hates Chris? I think he's too long in the tooth to play BP.

Anthony Mackie Wants to be Black Panther

by SuperHeroHype

June 22, 2012

Though Disney and Marvel still deny that Black Panther will be the next solo franchise they launch, the interest in the property is at an all time high on the internet.

In an interview with HitFix, Anthony Mackie was asked if he'd been offered the role and he had this to say:

"I was hoping I would be the Incredible Hulk, but that didn't work out," Mackie replied, laughing. "I would love to be a part of ['Black Panther']. I love Black Panther and I love the story behind it. It would be cool to be a part of it."

What do you think? Mackie seems like a good fit for the role to us.

Mackie is a good actor. He's just a little too short in my opinion. I don't think you could pull off the elevator shoes like with RD Jr.

Plus he's too bulky. I could see him as Luke Cage, not T'Challa. When my wife and I were watching the chase scene in Casino Royale I said I thought the actor(Sebastien Foucon) would be a great Black Panther. He's still young enough to be the character, but old enough to pull it off too. Like you Alcinde, I'd love to see this movie take form. Given Marvels track record with the movies under their umbrella I think it would be great. Maybe a cameo in the next Avengers movie would give it the wings it needs to happen. He definitely needs a cameo somewhere, maybe Iron Man or Cap?
