The Die Hard franchise has never pitted hero John McClane (Bruce Willis) against a better antagonist than the baddie of the first film, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman).
Now it sounds like the upcoming Die Hard 24/7 may take a page from Die Hard With a Vengeance, which saw McClane battling Hans' brother, Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons).
What's Playing claims "that the villain of this upcoming movie could be another 'Gruber'. ... It has been said a new Gruber sibling is in the works. If true, I'm doubting another brother and the 'son of Gruber' idea would be ridiculous, however a Gruber sister/daughter concept is truly an interesting one."
If this is true, what do you think of McClane battling another Gruber? Overkill, or just what the series needs?
Deadline reported earlier this evening that Bruce Willis' fifth outing as Detective John McClane in Die Hard 5 has scored itself a director in Noam Murro, who is best known outside of the ad agencies for his debut feature Smart People. There have been rumors circulating over the last few months about 20th Century Fox wanting another installment with Skip Woods working on a script, which has been confirmed by the new addition.
Although Murro has only directed one film, he has been nominated five times by the GA for his commercials work.
Bruce Willis has yet to have signed a deal for a fifth movie but he's shown a lot of enthusiasm for returning to his best-loved franchise.
The previous installment Live Free or Die Hard was released in the summer of 2007 and it grossed $383.5 million worldwide. No word yet on who else if anyone might return from that movie.
You can read a previous interview ComingSoon.net did with Murro here.
Two more actors have signed on for the upcoming fifth Die Hard installment, A Good Day to Die Hard. Variety reports that Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir have signed on for villainous roles, playing characters named Komorov and Irina, respectively. They join Bruce Willis, returning as John McClane, and Jai Courtney, playing his son, Jack.
The film puts McClane on an international stage -- truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow -- and introduces his estranged son Jack. An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive – and the world safe for democracy.
Koch is best known for roles in The Lives of Others, Black Book and Unknown while Snigir, a Russian model, is making her English-language film debut.
A Good Day to Die Hard begins production next month, aiming for a February 14, 2013 release.
20th Century Fox's 2013 sequel, A Good Day to Die Hard, has lined another actor in Cole Hauser, Deadline reports. He'll play a villain by the name of Collins.

Hauser, who has previously acted alongside Willis in Hart's War and Tears of the Sun, also joins Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir in the February 14th, 2013 release.
Model Anne Vyalitsyna, who recently appeared in the "Sports Illustrated" swimsuit issue, is set to make her acting debut in John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard, Variety reports.

Valentine's Day 2013 is set to bring Bruce Willis' John McClane to Moscow in A Good Day to Die Hard. Today, director John Moore spoke with Empire about the new entry in the 20th Century Fox franchise and revealed that he'll be keeping the humor level to a minimum.
"There are a couple of great gags and a couple of great McClanisms," he says. "It’s not like [he's] this idiot, bumbling around Moscow making ‘America won the Cold War’ jokes. It’s not 'Carry On Die Hard', I can assure you... I don’t know whether it’s post-financial crash or whatever, but I don’t think people are in the mood for that bollocks anymore. People are well savvy to the cynical reheating of any product, any franchise. Any s--t won’t do. The bar’s a bit higher."
Moore goes on to say that the film will encompass a global scale and will not skimp on action.
"The scope along goes from New York to Moscow," he adds. "It’s very, very international. There’s a car chase through Moscow that’s taking us 78 days to shoot."
A Good Day to Die Hard also introduces McClane's estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney) and a cast that includes Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Anne Vyalitsyn.
Now in production in Hungary, John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard is set to feature the return of Bruce Willis as John McClane, pairing him with Jai Courtney as his son, Jack. Today, a cameo appearance by a third member of the McClane family has been revealed thanks to an extra (via Bleeding Cool).
"I got to work with Bruce Willis again, which is always nice," the extra posted on his blog about working on the set, "The best, though, was that I got to work with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Willis' daughter."
Winstead originally played Lucy Gennaro McClane in 2007's Live Free or Die Hard. It's currently unclear how much of a part she has in the new film, though Cross notes that the scene he shot today is towards the end of the story.
Also starring Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Anne Vyalitsyn, A Good Day to Die Hard is set for a February 14, 2013 release
