Watchmen didn't resonate because it sucks. I've never understood the popularity of that garbage.

Chris Nolan Says 'No' to Justice League

by SuperHeroHype

July 09, 2012

It shouldn't be that big of a surprise to us, but it sure is a disappointment - Christopher Nolan will not be helping in any capacity with a Justice League film. When asked in an Associated Press interview whether he had plans for the movie, his reply was simple.

"No, none at all," Nolan said. "We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character."

Easy enough, but it seems he's cutting off any hopes we might have had of him doing any other DC property all together.

He also said he [does] not intend to get involved with any future solo Batman films when distributor Warner Bros., which owns DC Comics, decides the time is right to launch a new take on the masked vigilante.

"Batman will outlive us all, and our interpretation was ours. Obviously, we consider it definitive and kind of finished. The great thing about Batman is he lives on for future generations to reinterpret, and obviously, Warners will have to decide in the future what they're going to do with him," Nolan said. "We've had our say on the character. ...

"I've got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any 'Justice League' project."

There you have it, you may begin your period of mourning.

I'm actually okay with that. He was great with Batman, but I don't know how he'd handle the more superheroic characters like GL, Superman, and Aquaman.

Warner Bros. Looks to Ben Affleck for Justice League

by SuperHeroHype

August 08, 2012

Warner Bros. appears to have their eye on Ben Affleck to direct the big screen Justice League feature film. Variety reports that the studio has sent the Argo director Will Beall's recently announced screenplay to gauge his interest in helming.

It is still unknown whether or not Warner's film will use any of their standalone superhero projects as jumping off points, building a cohesive cinematic universe the way that Marvel has, though the trade notes that the movie version of the team should include Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Depending on how quickly production moves forward, Justice League could hit theaters as soon as 2015.

Affleck, who has taken roles in his own directing projects, could very well end up part of the onscreen superhero ensemble as well. He previously played a Marvel superhero in Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 Daredevil.

Argo is set for release on October 12th, also through Warner Bros. Affleck is also attached to direct the studio's planned multi-film adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.

The Wachowskis in the Running to Direct Justice League?

by SuperHeroHype

August 25, 2012

Following yesterday's comments by Ben Affleck that he is not working on the Justice League movie comes word that "The Matrix" trilogy helmers Andy and Lana Wachowski may be in contention for the job as well.

According to Moviehole, "Warner Bros are apparently jazzed with “Cloud Atlas”, and love that it’s as much a spectacle as it is a showcase for the immense ensemble involved, so it makes sense the W’s are under consideration."

Besides bringing the blockbuster "Matrix" trilogy to the big screen, the Wachowkis co-wrote and produced the graphic novel adaptation V For Vendetta, and directed, wrote and produced Speed Racer. Warner Bros. will release their Cloud Atlas in theaters on October 26.

Will Beall is writing the script for Justice League, which is expected to include such popular characters as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Do you think the Wachowskis would be a good fit for this project?

Will Justice League Precede a Batman Reboot?

by SuperHeroHype

August 28, 2012

The fan community is abuzz today with a new rumor that suggests that Batman's next big screen appearance might not be in the proposed Warner Bros. reboot but could, instead, be as a team member of the seemingly fast-tracked Justice League. The story, which originated at Batman on Film, suggests that the superhero ensemble will be the next DC Comics superhero adaptation after next summer's Man of Steel.

The major element that appears to lend credence to this report is the fact that Justice League has a completed screenplay from Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall while another solo adventure of the Caped Crusader currently exists almost entirely in speculation. Some have suggested that Warner Bros. should find a way to continue Christopher Nolan's trilogy while others have called for a more dramatic reboot of the character, potentially adapting a property like "Batman Beyond".

What's important to remember is that, as much as fans wish it to be the case, there's currently no guarantee that Justice League will share a cinematic universe with any films past, present or future. Although the approach certainly worked for Marvel's The Avengers, Warner Bros. doesn't necessarily need to continue with Henry Cavill as Superman nor would they need to keep whoever they cast as Batman for a franchise reboot.

After all, when the studio was moving forward with George Miller's now-defunct motion-capture take on the property a few years ago, it was being planned to feature a Batman unlike anything in Nolan's films and the two projects would have seen release independently of one another.

That being said, Justice League could indeed wind up the launching place for a new take on the Dark Knight, but only time will tell for sure what Warner Bros. has in mind for the DC superheroes.

Warner Bros. Plans Justice League for 2015

by SuperHeroHype

October 18, 2012

Summer 2015 looks like it may see the world's two most popular superhero teams go head-to-head. The LA Times is reporting that Warner Bros. is targeting their big screen ensemble, Justice League, for the same summer as Marvel's The Avengers 2.

There's still no director attached, but Justice League has a screenplay from Will Beall. Plot details are few, but the lineup of heroes is said to include (at least) Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

The same article notes that the studio wanted The Dark Knight Rises' Christopher Nolan to produce the team-up, but that he declined. Nolan is serving as producer on the upcoming Man of Steel, however. While there's no official confirmation as of yet, it is widely believed that the intent is to carry Henry Cavill's Superman character over to the Justice League feature.

Whether or not Justice League winds up having any ties to previous DC Comics adaptations, the intention of the studio is to spinoff characters into their own franchises post-2015.

I'll still believe it when I see it on the screen. I know there's more momentum than ever, but until it HAPPENS I'm not falling for it.

Aquaman better make the cut.

He's a founding member, dammit.

It's about time Warner Bros. :?

I just wonder if Henry Cavill will play Superman in JLA too. How dumb would it be to have two different actors playing Superman in theaters? It's far more interesting to tie all these movies together like Marvel is doing.

Okay, we can assume Christian Bale is out (since they want to use this movie to launch new franchises) but can we at least get Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern? The movie wasn't all that hot but it was hardly a disaster and I'm like to see a better writer and director get a better shot at the take on it. Besides the reason The Avengers was so big was because they got the heroes from the past Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. I wasn't happy they recast Banner but Banner/Hulk was STILL the same version that took place in the second Hulk movie continuity. And even though THAT movie was kind of a snore, it too helped lead up to The Avengers. They should do the same thing with GL except they should make sure Reynolds is involved too.

I dunno. That movie was such a flop I think they will distance themselves. And I still just don't see Reynolds as Hal.

IF this ever happens, they'll get 6 or 7 actors and actresses to play the role and then we'll never see them again. WB/DC obviously doesn't have the vision and patience to do what Marvel has done so how good this movie possibly be? It would have to be 5 hours long for everyone to be introduced and brought together.

Id think that DC would be much more successful if they just through us into the movie at some point after the team is formed.

Don't worry about going into origins just yet, especially not for Batman and Superman, and maybe even GL.

Start the movie at the end of one mission, have some "reminiscient conversation" and launch into the next big bad that in some way ties back to the team forming.

The "Marvel Way" worked amazingly well for Marvel, but it doesn't mean that is the only successful way to get into this franchise. Even if DC were to mimic that formula, there is no guarantee that it would work as well. Hell, even Marvel's Phase Two films aren't guaranteed to generate them same level of impact that this first round did.

In order for this to be a success, everyone needs to step back, check their pre-conceptions at the door, and let this unfold in the way that is best for this movie/franchise.

Unfortunately, this is Corporate Hollywood so that will never happen...
