From IGN: Thor 2 Being PlottedKevin Feige says one of the first film's writers is working on it.May 3, 2011 Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige said during a weekend press conference for Thor that the studio is already mapping a sequel to the god of thunder's big screen debut, which opens stateside Friday. "We've got 600 plus issues, we've got a thousand years of mythology, we have other stories we'd like to tell," said Feige. "The audience will tell us whether they want to see those other stories, but we have to be prepared for that if that -- if we should get the call." Feige add that Thor screenwriter "Don Payne is working on story ideas for a Part Two, we've got various options with (director Kenneth Branagh) to discuss coming, but right now the focus is on the first one but Don is slowly but surely thinking about where to take the character next should we be so lucky." When Entertainment Weekly asked if he'd return for Thor 2, Branagh said, "I am not sure I am done with Thor's universe, or if it is done with me. I guess it will likely depend on how massive it is and how the reviews are, and then schedules and all that nonsense."

From IGN: Thor 2 Villain RumorsJust who might the god of thunder face in his sequel?May 17, 2011 Bear in mind that no solid developments have happened on Thor 2 save for the revelation that one of the writers of the first film, Don Payne, has been tapped to flesh out some ideas for it, but the rumor mill now claims to know who the villains might be in the sequel to the Marvel movie. "Our source tells us that while the Thor 2 project is still in very early stages and they don't expect to start actually writing the script until the end of the year, internally producers are kicking around possible villains. In contention to face off against Thor are two characters named The Enchantress and [Skurge] The Executioner," according to CinemaBlend. Both characters recently made our list of 6 Things We Want in Thor 2. As we explained in that article, "There's also The Enchantress, a wily Asgardian goddess whose unrequited love for Thor makes her a frequent ally of Loki. And finally, we'd love to see the tale of Skurge the Executioner play out on screen. Skurge began his career as an enemy of Thor, but his heroic sacrifice to save his people remains one of the best Thor stories ever written."

I would love to see Enchantress and Skurge, but I don't think (even collectively) they could carry an entire movie. I'd like to be proven wrong though, because I don't want them to cram so much into a sequel that is becomes a muddled mess.

Don Payne to Write Thor SequelBy SuperHeroHypeJul 1st, 2011 Yesterday, it was reported that Marvel Studios will be rolling ahead with a sequel to their recent hit Thor for a release on July 26, 2013. Although Kenneth Branagh is no longer directing and they need to find someone new, they'll first have to get a screenplay together and today, Deadline has the name of the screenwriter who'll be doing that: Don Payne, who was a credited writer on Thor and whose previous superhero experience includes Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and the Ivan Reitman comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

I'm glad to see the Thor sequel has legs. I can't wait to find out if the rumors about Thor's villain(s) is true.

Thor 2 to Receive Robert Rodat Rewriteby SuperHeroHypeJanuary 10, 2012 After dropping director Patty Jenkins for Alan Taylor, Marvel Studios' Thor 2 is now scheduled for a rewrite. Deadline says that Robert Rodat (best known for Saving Private Ryan) has come aboard to provide exactly that. Rodat, more recently one of the writers behind "Falling Skies," will take over the initial draft from Don Payne, who also worked on the original Thor. Set to star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston, the plan was to begin shooting as early as this summer for a November 15, 2013 release. There's not yet word on how a rewrite might affect the production schedule. Hemsworth's Thor can, meanwhile, be seen in this summer's Marvel's The Avengers, hitting theaters on May 4th.

Jaimie Alexander Says Sif is in Thor 2by SuperHeroHypeJanuary 11, 2012 Jaimie Alexander has confirmed to MTV that her character Sif will appear in Thor 2. "I'm a comic book nerd at heart, so I'd like to see the relationship between Thor and Sif progress," she said when asked where she would like to see the character go. "Whether or not they do that, we're not sure yet. We'll see. I think that element will be in there, but I don’t know how much."She was also asked whether we might see Sif in Marvel's The Avengers. "Sometimes you never know. It'll be funny - they'll call you and they'll do a post-credits scene and you go, 'Oh, so everything I said in interviews is completely wrong.' So you never know!"You can watch the interview segment using the player below: http://www.mtv.com/videos/movies/724354 ... gers.jhtml

Idris Elba Confirms He'll Be Back for Thor 2by SuperHeroHypeJanuary 16, 2012 Just a few days after it was confirmed that Jaimie Alexander would be returning to Asgard for Thor 2 comes word, via MTV, that Idris Elba will be back in the role of Heimdall as well. "Thor 2 for sure," Elba responded when asked about future appearances in the Marvel Universe, "... We're going at it again."The actor did admit that he had not yet met with Alan Taylor, the recently-announced director of the Marvel Studios sequel. He was also less certain when asked if Heimdall might make a cameo appearance in Marvel's The Avengers, confirming that he hasn't been involved (at least so far) in that project. Also confirmed to again star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston, Thor 2 is planned to hit theaters on November 15, 2013.

From IGN: Will Loki Return for Thor 2?Plus, star Chris Hemsworth hopes for a more "organic" feel to Asgard.April 13, 2012 Press for The Avengers has of course gotten underway this week, with all the actors talking to a variety of outlets. As a result, we can expect lots of tidbits of evasive Marvel news to leak out over the next several days -- including the following on Thor 2 (which starts shooting in three months in England). Beware of spoilers!Marvel mega-producer Kevin Feige spoke to Collider about the Thunder God's return to Asgard, as well as Loki's status after The Avengers. "Loki has a part, but there will be a different villain, another big villain," he says. "But you can't do a Thor movie without Loki." He also talked about Thor's development as a character: "Well it's sort of the crux of the whole sequel and it's what [Chris] Hemsworth is most excited about diving into, and it's what is the heart of story; it's Thor and Jane, to continue that dynamic. Really they were only together for three days, and do they love each other? Do they like each other? Do they know each other? We're acknowledging that that love story in the first movie was sort of a quick crush, essentially, over the course of three quick days in the middle of the desert. And [the heart of the movie is also] the relationship between Thor and Odin, which does change drastically as it did over the course of the first movie, and picks up and continues from there."As for how the timing of this all works for the characters in regard to The Avengers, Feige seems to have it figured out: "Look, the way The Avengers is constructed, not a lot of time passes over the course of the movie and whether it's Cap or Thor on the ground in the States here in modern day, they don't have a lot of time to deal to deal with their own stories, they've gotta deal with the stories of The Avengers. So while the relationship between Loki and Thor certainly has changed and has progressed, a lot of Thor 2 is picking up where it left off in terms of Jane … and also what's been going on in the Nine Realms without the Asgardians being able to use the Bifrost? I will just say it's not good."More Thor 2 talk comes from Chris Hemsworth himself, who tells Slash Film the following: "I have read a script and we start shooting in August. I met with [director] Alan Taylor a couple of months ago and Natalie Portman and I and Alan and a couple of Marvel guys and it was hugely exciting. Ken [Branagh] did such a wonderful job and, with scheduling or what have you, he didn't end up doing this one, but I'm a big fan of the Game of Thrones series, which is Alan's latest work, and I think that is what's exciting about the second one: making it sort of more tangible and having a more organic feel to Asgard and that world. I think the science fiction element to Thor… the danger is it falls a little bit into the world of it's 'tough to throw a light to.' I think of big waterfalls and mountains and a Viking influence, where the Norse mythology kind of grew from. Having that in Asgard is going to make it all the more special and that's what Alan wants to bring to it. I think that would be the new aspect to this one."

Chris Hemsworth Thinks Thanos is 'Too Easy'by SuperHeroHypeMay 24, 2012 With Marvel's The Avengers still knocking out opponents at the box office, is it too early to talk about what will happen in the next few features at Marvel? Of course not! MTV caught up with Thor star Chris Hemsworth to talk about what he would like to see in the sequel and whether or not we would get a taste of Thanos, who was teased at the end of "The Avengers." "We need bigger fish to fry," said Hemsworth with a chuckle. Proverbial fish don't get much bigger than Thanos! Thor 2 reunites Hemsworth with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Natalie Portman as the love interest Jane Foster. Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") is stepping behind the camera for its November 13, 2013 release date. You can check out the interview segment here.

Thor 2 Looks to Mads Mikkelsen for Villain Roleby SuperHeroHypeMay 24, 2012 Mads Mikkelsen looks like he may be taking a trip to the Marvel Universe. Variety reports that the Casino Royale star is in talks to play a still-unspecified villain in Thor 2. The film will mark the third big screen appearance of Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Tom Hiddleston's Loki following 2011's Thor and this year's Marvel's The Avengers. Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander and Idris Elba have been confirmed to be returning for the Alan Taylor-directed sequel, though even more of the first film's cast is likely to be back as well. Mikkelsen is no stranger to Norse legend nor to tales of gods and men, having appeared in Nicolas Winding Refn's Valhalla Rising and the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans. Featuring a screenplay by Robert Rodat and Don Payne, Thor 2 is scheduled to be released on November 15, 2013.

Kevin Feige Offers Updates on Iron Man 3 and Thor 2by SuperHeroHypeMay 29, 2012 Producer extraordinaire of all things Marvel Kevin Feige talked to Empire Magazine about the next two pictures on the slate for the company, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2. On Iron Man 3, he said: "We don't equate bigger with better. It's Tony's most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the 'Iron Man' movies." Kind of an ironic quote since The Avengers was the biggest and argueably the best of the Marvel films. Though it is good to know that Marvel doesn't look at their films the way Michael Bay treats Transformers. On Thor 2, he added: "We're going to see the other side of Asgard. It's not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of 'Avengers' will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie Portman, and Thor returning with Jane Foster." Many have speculated that it will be difficult for the characters to return to their respective films and have it resonate the same way or be as fun after The Avengers. Feige, however, talks so eloquently about them that we should all take a breath and relax, knowing they're in good hands.
