RED Sequel Gets Writers

by SuperHeroHype

Jan 18th, 2011

Original writers Jon and Erich Hoeber attached

Summit Entertainment has signed the writers of last year's RED to return for a sequel, Collider reports.

Though it was based on a comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, the brotherly writing team of Jon and Erich Hoeber made some significant departures from the source material in bringing RED to the big screen.

Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Heren Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker, RED was a box office hit and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical Comedy (which was instead won by The Kids Are All Right).

The Hoeber brothers have also supplied the screenplay for the upcoming Battleship and, along with Pablo Fenjves, the Summit project Man on a Ledge.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee Join RED 2

by SuperHeroHype

May 10, 2012

Summit Entertainment has announced that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee will be joining the ensemble cast of the upcoming RED 2, set to hit theaters on August 2, 2013.

The project is being directed by Dean Parisot from a screenplay by Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the script for the original RED, based in turn on a comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer.

RED 2 brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.

“We had so much fun making 'RED' and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year," says Erik Feig, President, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Production. "We can't wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they ‘still got it.’”

Zeta-Jones can soon be seen on the big screen in Rock of Ages and Lee in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce the film via their DiBonaventura Pictures banner. Feig will oversee the project for the studio along with Summit Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Production, Geoff Shaevitz.

I never saw the first one in theatres but they've been running it on cable channels so I watched it. I have to say, it's a heck of a lot of fun. John Malkovich's character is just perfect and cracks me up. Can't wait to see the second one.

Anyone know if Karl Urban is returning?
