Absolutely nothing like that in the book.

Sorry, but I just don't recall ever seeing anything similar to that leading up to the show... :?

Actually I think I have my Sean Bean scenes mixed up. Not that he's type cast in sword swinging type movies (he is!) but I'm 99.9% sure my Brother and I are thinking of the movie Black Death. I literally watched that movie a few days after the Game of Thrones premier episode.

Sorry carry on... :?

The Season finale was good but it definitely didn't feel like a finale. More like "end of book 1..." (which it is) and most assuredly left me wanting more.

Spring of 2012 is very, very far away it seems. It would've felt more appropriate to me if it were "Winter of 2011" and then they could have kept using "winter is coming" in all the promo spots.

Ah well, the "birth" was exactly what I hoped for and its nice to know the Brotherhood is going to be proactive instead of just defensive. Tyrion, you lusty little Imp, I can't wait to see you in court again... :D

Now, not that the show was lacking before, but ... get on with the action already!

I couldn't be more pleased with this show. I love the way all the characters have been depicted to this point. Daenerys scares the excrement out of me now. She'll have the world trembling before it's over. And yes, Spring 2012 seems like forever away. Sigh. At least I have the first book to tide me over now. I'll just have to read it reaaaaaalllly slow.

Yep. About a 2 week gap between Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.

I can live with that.

ok....

who watched it?
What do you think?

I'm torn. I waited so long for this, and I went ahead and read the next 3 books, so now I'm expecting certain things to happen and not sure how or when they will be getting to them.

I can say that the sequencing of this season doesn't seem to adhere as tightly to the sequencing of the book as last season did, but that is probably a good thing as the events of books 2 and 3 are heavily overlapped.

Some of the new casting isn't what I pictured based on the descriptions of the characters in print, but I'll try not to pass judgement on that just yet.

I don't know if it was the gap between seasons, the internal anticipation I built up, or just the ever-popular sophomore slump, but this doesn't feel as "awe filled" as it did last season.

But man, when they finally show us .......... I'm gonna be giddy .......

You should know by now never to read the books beforehand. Movies/TV shows are almost never as good as the books they're based on.

Definately a setup episode. And what a tangled web we weave!

Spoiler: show
The brat king needs to die and quick. Nice to see the not quite as bratty queen doing what she can to spare lives. That new "fire priestess" is interesting. I'm sure she'll be one to watch out for this season. And the imp . . . is still the clever SOB he was last year. His scenes are almost always among my favorites in any episode. Nice to see the show can still shock/creep me out. That old geezer who beds all his daughters . . . yuck. And killing babies? Very biblical and visceral.

I'd say we're off to a good start.
