I have comments for everything in your comments but don't want to ruin any of it for you.
Some of it should be amazing, some of it they are seemingly making a bigger deal of it in the show than they did in the books.
Can't wait to see how it all shakes out and, I promise, I won't say anything specific about events on the show until the season ends and I can go through it all screen v page without spoiling anything in the works.

I will say though that the "fire priestess'" name is Melisandre and the guy who marries his daughters is Cratcher (but I might be spelling them wrong)

Watched it. Loved it. Can't wait for next week. The one thing I will say that's not a spoiler of any sort, is that the fellow that's lugging Bran around (Hodor), is considerably smaller and older than he should be. In the book, Hodor would be the largest man in the 7 kingdoms were it not for the Mountain that rides (the Hound's brother, Gregor Clegane). It's not a huge deal, but you would really need someone that large and strong to constantly carry that weight.

I just HAVE to say this, but as it may be a bit much for some I'm burying it in a SPOILER tag ... Sorry if that ruins anything for you, but I just couldn't hold it in.

Whatever he said, PLEASE don't reference it in the thread without another SPOILER tag. I really just want to let the show unfold naturally.

C'mon
No one is talking about this.
This weeks episode was especially good at getting into place and setting up the season.
Theon Greyjoy's return home was handled better than I expected and I'm glad to see the addition of Pyke to the opening title sequence...

Thanks Ben. I don't know why I skipped over this thread this week. Again not spoiling anything, but the part with Melisandre threw me off a bit. I don't think it's possible for them to have picked a better person for Tyrion. Peter Dinklage plays the role like it was written specifically for him. The scenes with he and Cersei, and he Varys stole the show in my opinion.
The scenes with Theon going back to the Iron Islands were pretty much verbatim from the book. Very well done. His trip home just made the waters a lot more muddy...

Okay, a quick spoiler question for those who have read the books.
Do we ever get to see a real kraken? 'Cause that would kick all kinds of butt.

As of the end of Book 4: A Feast for Crows However, we do know (at the end of Season 1) so anything is possible in Book 5. And yes, if you are reading along, Book 1 stands alone. Books 2 and 3 overlap eachother in bizarre sorts of ways. Books 4 and, now, 5, were written as parts 1 & 2 of the same story with certain characters in 1 book and the rest in the other. As they continue filming, they will need to stray from the format of the books more and more getting to a point that will keep even me guessing as to what happens next.

Damn. I've only read through the first 2 books. I'm dying to know what's in those spoiler tags. But I won't peek. I'm waiting for season 2 to end, before I start reading Storm of Swords.

I've not read the books (and probably won't) but man, what a great show. Watched the first season over about 9 days, and then went and found Episode 1 and 2 of this season so far. But Damn it I love Sean Bean. It's actually what intrigued me to watch the show. It's just not the same without him
