The world's going to end. But first, let's go to the movies. Here's a partial list of the genre movies that are going to come out this year by release date. JanuaryUnderworld AwakeningFebruaryChronicleGhost Rider: Spirit of VengeanceMarchHansel and Gretel: Witch HuntersJohn CarterThe RavenThe Hunger GamesWrath of the TitansAprilThe Cabin in the WoodsMayThe AvengersDark ShadowsBattleshipMen In Black 3JuneSnow White and the HuntsmenPrometheusJack The Giant KillerAbraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterBraveG.I. Joe: RetaliationJulyThe Amazing Spider-ManIce Age: Continental DriftThe Dark Knight RisesAugustThe Bourne LegacyTotal RecallWarm BodiesThe Expendables 2The ApparitionSinisterThe PossessionSeptemberResident Evil: RetributionDreddLooperOctoberThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3DThe Gangster SquadParanormal Activity 4Halloween 3DNovemberRed DawnSkyfall (Bond 23)47 RoninGravityDecemberThe Hobbit: An Unexpected JourneyWorld War ZDjango UnchainedLike I said, this is only a partial list. I'm sure there are some I've missed. Please feel free to let me know if I did and I can do an update. And, as always, release dates are subject to change. Mike (So what do you think? Will this be a good year for movies or "Meh"? Bond, Spidey, Batman, Tarantino, Hobbits and Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott back to Sci-Fi, Dark Shadows returns, more Zombies than you can shake a stick at and that Avengers thing. I'm excited. What about the rest of you?)

Here's my Top Ten, in no particular order SDcomics wrote: So other than summer and December, it's gonna be a boring year. In terms of sheer anticipation, gotta go with Avengers and the Hobbit. I'm sure I'll enjoy Dark Knight, but I just don't see how it'll surpass the second one.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go back and click quite a few links. I don't know what 70% of those movies are. I've heard the Hunger Games is a good read, and I'm tempted to get it. Can anyone recommend it?

Wow.
I had no idea I was going to be so busy at the theatres this year.
There is no way I will see everything I want to see in the theatre but my MUST SEEs are (in order of release):
John Carter Avengers Prometheus Brave Ice Age (my son will love it I am sure) Dark Knight Rises Skyfall 47 Ronin the Hobbit
ouch.

So Ill see
GI Joe Avengers Brave The Hobbit
Maybe John Carter.... Spiderman Battleship Ghost Rider MIB 3
Not that bad a year for me-- Ill see considerably more at home-- where the drinks are cheaper- and if I like the movie that much I can watch it again and keep it for the same price- and no one around me is texting
(and since I havent seen the other Batman movies at the theatre -- why start now)...

Who's started seeing anything off the list yet? I know we are just getting started, but a tally of how many actually paid money to go to each flick might be a fun thing to track ... ... or maybe not

There's only 3 maybe 4 movies on that list I'm willing to pay theater prices for.
Avengers Dark Knight The Hobbit
Spiderman might make its way in depending on the trailers.

Your theater prices list (The Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit) matches mine except I'm going to see Brave too and Spider-Man is likely to be a DVD buy for me rather than seeing it in the theater. The other two movies I'll wait to buy on DVD are Men In Black III and Dark Shadows. I LOVE Dark Shadows (at least the 90's version) and I'm looking forward to the new movie. The only problem is, the last time I saw a Tim Burton reboot in the theaters was Planet of the Apes. Never again. I don't trust Burton enough as a filmmaker to do any property he touches justice. I still haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Alice In Wonderland yet and it might be awhile before I get to those. I can't get Paul Giamatti in ape make-up saying "Can't we all just get along?" out of my head and I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I should have walked out of the movie then but I was stupid enough to watch the whole thing and we got the absolute worst ending to a big budget picture I had ever seen. Tim Burton is now on my poop list.

Well I've already seen Underworld (Sunday) and Chronicle (early screening Tuesday night) and they were both pretty good.
Movies I'll definitely see in the theater:
Avengers Wrath of the Titans GI Joe: Retaliation Dark Knight Rises Ice Age: Continental Drift Resident Evil: Retribution The Hobbit
Movies I'll more than likely rent/buy on Blu-ray:
The Hunger Games Men in Black 3 Amazing Spider-Man Bourne Legacy Total Recall Expendables 2 Skyfall

I have not seen a movie yet this year.
I might end up seeing Chronicle (the GF has hinted that she'd like to go). It's at 85% at RT, so it'll probably break my streak.
But it won't be this weekend, probably next week.

Everything I have heard people say about Chronicle is that it is "Akira light".
Not sure if that is supposed to be a compliment or not ...
