Dane DeHaan is Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

by SuperHeroHype

December 03, 2012

Said to be up for the part last month, Dane DeHaan has officially scored the role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Director Marc Webb confirmed the news this morning via his Twitter feed.

DeHaan is best known for roles in films like Chronicle and Lawless and his casting suggests that the sequel will retain the "dark and edgy" take on the young Osborn rather than, as later rumored, a more outgoing and athletic version.

Harry, the son of Green Goblin alter ego Norman Osborn, was in the comics a close friend and classmate to Peter Parker who later became a villain, taking up the Goblin mantle himself. In Sam Raimi's original trilogy, the role was played by James Franco.

DeHaan joins the returning Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone along with Shailene Woodley in the part of Mary Jane Watson. The below press release also confirms that Jamie Foxx has joined the cast and he's expected to play the film's central villain, Electro.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel hits theaters on May 2, 2014. Here is the official press release on the casting:

Dane DeHaan will join the cast of the next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man™ along side Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley as Columbia Pictures prepares to begin production on the next chapter of the blockbuster franchise, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of production for the studio.

The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The casting of DeHaan as Harry Osborn was confirmed this morning in a tweet by Webb (@MarcW) who wrote "Meet Harry Osborn. So excited to have him on board. @danedehaan."

"Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast," Webb said.

The new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

Webb, Garfield and Stone previously teamed on this summer’s blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man, which has taken in more than $751 million worldwide.

DeHaan caught moviegoers’ attention with his performances in four 2012 releases: Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, opposite Daniel Day-Lewis and Lukas Haas; John Hillcoat’s Lawless, alongside Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, and Jason Clarke; Bradley Rust Gray’s Jack & Diane, with Juno Temple and Riley Keough; and one of the year’s biggest sleeper hits, the adventure thriller Chronicle, directed by Josh Trank. He began his film career with director John Sayles and actor Chris Cooper in Amigo.

DeHaan next stars in Place Beyond the Pines alongside Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling. In addition he will star in Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot, with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth, about the fate of the West Memphis Three; and John Krokidas’ Kill Your Darlings, with Jack Huston, Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster, and Kyra Sedgwick, set in 1944 amidst the Beat Generation.

Mr. DeHaan first came to industry attention with his portrayal of Jesse in the third season of the critically applauded drama series In Treatment, starring alongside Gabriel Byrne. This was followed by a guest arc in the fourth season of the popular horror series True Blood.

In 2010, he received an Obie Award for his performance in Annie Baker’s The Aliens, directed by Sam Gold. The Rattlestick Theater production was cited as “Play of the Year” by The New York Times. Mr. DeHaan made his Broadway debut in with American Buffalo, Robert Falls’ 2008 staging of the classic David Mamet play.

Jamie Foxx on Electro's Origins in The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

by SuperHeroHype

December 03, 2012

Following studio confirmation earlier today that Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro in Marc Webb's upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man comes, via ET, details from the actor himself about the role.

"[He's a] genius electrician-type person," Foxx says, "and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world... [T]he next thing you know, he turns on it."

Though the character of Electro has never definitively appeared on the big screen, some fan speculation has suggested that the mysterious figure (played by Michael Massee) featured in The Amazing Spider-Man's end credits was, in fact, our first look at the character. First appearing in 1964's "The Amazing Spider-Man" #9, Electro's real name is Max Dillon and he gained his powers after a freak accident while working on a electrical line.

Foxx joins Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley and Dane DeHaan in the May 2, 2014 release.

Martin Sheen Back as Uncle Ben in The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

by SuperHeroHype

December 10, 2012

Casting for The Amazing Spider-Man sequel has been pretty stellar so far. Shailene Woodley was added as Mary Jane Watson, followed by Jamie Foxx as Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Now, in an unexpected announcement, Martin Sheen has confirmed that he will return as Peter Parker's Uncle Ben.

The actor was on RTÉ's The Late Late Show and when asked about his next appearance on the big screen, he said: "Well they called me back, I don't know what the part's going to be but I'm going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot in February."

Sheen will join his Amazing Spider-Man co-stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the May 2, 2014 release.

Kirsten Dunst Gives Stamp of Approval for Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane

by SuperHeroHype

December 14, 2012

Even though rumor has it the role won't be very large in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Shailene Woodley has been cast as Mary Jane Watson for the film, but what does the former Mary Jane Watson, Kirsten Dunst, think about the casting?

"I really like her, a lot," Dunst told MTV News. "I've met her a few times and we've talked about health foods, we know some of the same people, she's really into finding springs and natural water and she'll go get her water and things like that. I've done that before, and we've talked about that. I think she's a sweetheart and such a good actress.

"I'm happy, If I had to pick someone, I'm happy she's following in my shoes."

So, in short, they've hit the jackpot.

Woodley joins stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Also joining the film is Jamie Foxx as Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Marc Webb also returns to direct the film, which is targeting a May 2, 2014 release.

Jamie Foxx Says Electro Costume Won't be Green and Yellow

by SuperHeroHype

December 17, 2012

This might come as a surprise to some of you, but when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters in 2014, Electro won't be wearing his signature green and yellow spandex. In an interview with Blackfilm.com, Jamie Foxx said the classic colors aren't a part of the new costume.

"It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic bookie, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.

"In the script, this villain is the first time it’s be written well. Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time."

This version of Electro could be more influenced by the "Ultimate" version of the character (pictured below), which also didn't feature the green and yellow.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return to the franchise. Foxx joins the film along with other newcomers Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Marc Webb also returns to direct the film, which is targeting a May 2, 2014 release.

Jamie Foxx Goes In-Depth on Electro's Origins in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

by SuperHeroHype

December 17, 2012

It was just this morning that Jamie Foxx revealed that his take on The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Electro would be a bit of a departure from the standard take on the Marvel Comics supervillain. Now, in conversation with MTV, the Django Unchained star speaks at length about his take on Max Dillon.

"Marc Webb and all those guys who are doing it are smart," Foxx says. "They know that it has to make sense in 2013 so the suit is really slick. It's not green. It's actually black."

Foxx goes on to explain a bit about the origins of his Max Dillon [although he appears to accidentally call the character "Matt Dillon" as you can see in the video here].

"What you'll see is that, for his whole life, no one is talking to him," Foxx continues. "People have stolen his ideas at the big company. He's a nobody. At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, 'You're my guy. You're my ears and eyes on the street.' Then he says his name, [Max] and no one has ever said [Max] Dillon's name. He goes, 'Wow' and, when Spider-Man leaves, he sort of thinks that, "I am Spider-Man's partner!" He's cutting out Spider-Man's face and pasting it on all his boards... Everything goes bad with his mom. She doesn't remember his birthday. He has something tragic happen and, when it turns on, he lights it up."

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is also set to star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan and Martin Sheen and will hit theaters on May 2, 2014.

Will the Green Goblin Appear in The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel?

by SuperHeroHype

January 19, 2013

Not much is known about the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, but we do know the cast of the film. One of the newcomers for the movie is Chronicle star Dane DeHaan as Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn. In the previous film series and countless comics, Harry has taken up the mantle of the Green Goblin from his father, but will he be the first Goblin in the upcoming movie?

HitFix is reporting that DeHaan was present yesterday at the Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of his new film Kill Your Darlings. The director of the film, John Krokidas, was introducing the cast of the film and when he got to DeHaan, he mentioned "He's the Green Goblin," to which DeHaan reportedly smiled.

There has been no confirmation or denial from Sony at this point, so this should be treated strictly as a rumor, but it does seem like a plausible rumor. One thing that makes this seem unlikely is that Jamie Foxx has already mentioned many details about Electro's arc in the film, but it wouldn't be the first time there were multiple villains in a Spider-Man movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is also set to star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, and Martin Sheen and will hit theaters on May 2, 2014.

Paul Giamatti Up for Rhino Role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

by SuperHeroHype

January 28, 2013

It looks like Marc Webb's upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will be getting another new villain! The Hollywood Reporter says that Paul Giamatti is in talks to play the Rhino in the May 2, 2014 film. It's also being reported that Felicity Jones is in talks for an undisclosed role.

The alter-ego of Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich, the Rhino first appeared in 1966's "The Amazing Spider-Man" #41. A former low-key thug, an experiment grafted a nearly-indestructible polymer to Aleksei's skin, making him nearly unstoppable.

Giamatti appeared last in year in a variety of projects like Rock of Ages, Cosmopolis and John Dies at the End. Jones, meanwhile, is well known for roles in films like The Tempest and Like Crazy.

Already set to star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan and Martin Sheen, the new chapter in the Spider-Man saga was already confirmed to see the debut of Electro (Foxx) and Mary Jane Watson (Woodley).

The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Begins Production

by SuperHeroHype

February 04, 2013

Production has officially begun on Marc Webb's sequel to last year's The Amazing Spider-Man! Webb himself tweeted the below image with the message "Day 1. #anamorphic #film #philthecameraoperator"

Although the first film was shot digitally on the RED Epic, Webb seems to be going the celluloid route this time. There's no word yet on whether that will continue throughout the production or if there's something unique about today's production.

The film will see Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Martin Sheen reprising with Jamie Foxx joining as Electro, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Paul Giammatti as the Rhino and Felicity Jones in an unnamed role.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2014.
