Paranormal Activity 5 Greenlit for 2013

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 21, 2012

Blumhouse Productions and Paramount are moving forward with Paranormal Activity 5, reports Deadline. This honestly should come as no surprise to anyone. Paranormal Activity 4 opened at number one over the weekend.

The fifth chapter does not have a writer or director attached, however, I hope they rope in some fresh blood. Part four demonstrated Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have exhausted their run on the series. I think they have one more chapter to go. One more film to wrap up the series and answer the questions the fans have been looking for.

Paramount Sets Paranormal Activity 5 for 2013

Source: ComingSoon

November 20, 2012

Paramount Pictures has set a Halloween 2013 date for the next chapter in its successful found footage horror franchise. Paranormal Activity 5 will hit theaters on October 25, 2013.

Details are few as to what surprises the fifth entry might include and it's too early to confirm whether or not the sequel will mirror the simultaneous IMAX release of Paranormal Activity 4.

Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Paranormal Activity 4 was released on October 19 and has already grossed $135 million worldwide. There is not yet word on whether or not the directing pair, who also helmed Paranormal Activity 3, might return for another sequel.

The October 25 date puts Paranormal Activity 5 up against Edgar Wright's next, The World's End.

Paranormal Activity 5 for January 2014? Here's What Jason Blum Told Us...

by ShockTillYouDrop

July 16, 2013

There's a story at The Wrap running right now saying that Paranormal Activity 5, which has been awfully silent the last few months, may get a release date push from October 25th to January 2014, a month already populated by Lionsgate's Jessabelle and I, Frankenstein.

According to the site's source, the decision is still being mulled over but it might take a January 6, 2014 slot which proved to be successful for The Devil Inside. ShockTillYouDrop.com sat down with producer Jason Blum over the weekend during an Insidious Chapter 2 press event, however, who told us that the next installment will hold to the series' October release date tradition.

"It's not done, but it's closer to being done than when we started," he laughed. "We're on track for October, it's mostly shot. We're still shooting but it's mostly done."

Per usual, Blum wouldn't divulge details concerning the creative team or the plot, but this is the usual stuff at "camp Paranormal Activity": They quietly move into production, shoot a big chunk of the film and then tinker and tinker and tinker throughout the summer.

When we spoke to Jason, that was on Sunday, The Wrap's story ran today, so who knows what could have gone down in the last two days. We'll keep you posted, of course, if the release date push proves to be true!

Two Paranormal Activity Films on the Way in 2014

by ShockTillYouDrop

August 08, 2013

Ready for a one-two Paranormal Activity punch? 2014 is not just bringing one but two Parnormal Activity films leaving 2013 completely absent of a new entry in the series.

Shall we begin?

The year kicks off on January 3, 2014 with Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones - this is the Latino spin-off entry that has been rumored for a while now.

Paranormal Activity 5, meanwhile, is expected to resume the series on October 24, 2014. No writer or director has been set apparently, in spite of our sources telling us that the film was "good to go" for this October.

So, "The Marked Ones" - does it concern those indirectly affected by the events of the Paranormal Activity series or are they just spinning off a new tale altogether?

Almanac Screenwriters Board Paranormal Activity 5

Source: ComingSoon

September 25, 2013

2013 marks the first year since the original film's release that October hasn't seen a new Paranormal Activity film. 2014 is already set to make up for that, however, with a new, Latino-themed spinoff, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones arriving January 3 and Paranormal Activity 5 planned for October 24. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that the latter has scored the screenwriting of Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark.

Pagan and Stark's script for the time travel-themed "found footage" film Alamanac is being directed Dean Israelite for a February 28, 2014 release. They've also got another sci-fi project in the works at Paramount with Raindrop.

As with the rest of the series, Jason Blum and Oren Peli will produce Paranormal Activity 5.

Gregory Plotkin to Helm Paranormal Activity 5

Source: ComingSoon

September 26, 2013

Following word yesterday that Almanac scribes Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark have signed on to write Paranormal Activity 5 comes the update, via Deadline, that franchise editor Gregory Plotkin will be making his directorial debut with the October 24, 2014 release.

Although 2013 may mark the first year since the original film's release that October hasn't seen a new Paranormal Activity film, 2014 is already set to make up for that. In addition to Paranormal Activity 5, Paramount Pictures will release the Latino-themed spinoff, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones on January 3.

Plotkin has served as editor on every Paranormal Activity but the first, including the upcoming The Marked Ones spinoff.

As with the rest of the series, Jason Blum and Oren Peli will produce Paranormal Activity 5.

First Character Details Revealed for Paranormal Activity 5

Source: ComingSoon

January 16, 2014

Gregory Plotkin is gearing up to shoot Paranormal Activity 5 next month in Los Angeles. The next chapter in the series is arriving in time for the Halloween 2014 season when it opens October 24th. On writing duties they have Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark. To date, very few details have been revealed about which direction they're going in story-wise.

When we spoke to Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones writer-director Christopher Landon recently, he told us this about the fifth entry: "Gregory Plotkin, who is directing, he's been the editor on all of these and if there's anyone who knows these movies, it's him because he has to sit with all of the footage all day long. I think he's going to take it in a cool direction. We obviously have discussions about it because we want the movies to be connected. So, we were talking at the end of [The Marked Ones] because it's going to be tied to what they're doing in the fifth film."

Today, Moviehole (via ShockTillYouDrop.com) landed some information regarding the characters we'll see in Paranormal Activity 5 – looks like they landed a casting breakdown…

Ryan, Emily, their 6-year-old daughter Leila, and Mike, Ryan’s younger brother (essentially a less fitter, less funkier version of his brother) essetially.

Ryan, 26-31, is described as a ‘big kid’, he’s a video-game designer who has relocated his family from New York to Pala Alto for a cushy gig at Rockstar Games.

Though somewhat of a hippie (she’s into organic food, loves the arts and music, won’t let her daughter eat Gluten, and sports tattoos), Wife Emily is considerably more serious than her young husband – she’s constantly on the go, does Yoga, and though loving, has an air of maturity about her. Her sister died a year before.

Their daughter Leila seems to be a mixture of both – a bit of a fearless, opinionated tomboy.

And it goes without saying, Ryan and Emily’s family quickly realizes something is not OK within their new house.

Also expect Katie Featherston to return as Katie.

So, we get another family with daughters, which plays into a common theme found in the franchise – but how does it tie into the bigger picture?
