The CW's Amazon Casting Now, No Plans for Batman Show

by SuperHeroHype

January 14, 2013

A few months ago, it was announced that The CW was venturing into the world of Wonder Woman with a new series titled Amazon. Writer Allan Heinberg has been commissioned to write a script, but no pilot has officially been ordered. In an interview with IGN, CW President Mark Pedowitz had this to say: “First off, we’re waiting to see the script. Second off, we’re busy casting for Diana as we speak. Hopefully the script works the way we want. It's an origination story in the sense that Smallville was an origination story.”

With Warner Bros.' plan to have a Justice League film in theaters by 2015, The CW made sure the new series wouldn't interfere. “We worked carefully with Warner Bros. to make sure Warner Bros. theatrical was onboard so we were able to get it done. You want to work carefully with your studio to make sure that it works and that it doesn’t interfere with their projects.”

Pedowitz also says it's possible that Arrow and Amazon might be in the same 'universe.' “I think they all could exist in the same world, but whether they do or they don’t is depending on what the showrunner wants to do.”

Even though it would appear the stars are aligning for the potential new series, a pilot still won't be commissioned for a while. “If we get the right script and the right casting, we’ll go right forward to pilot.”

With Wonder Woman potentially getting her own series and the Superman series Smallville having wrapped up, that leaves just one of the DC Universe's Trinity without a CW TV show - Batman. Pedowitz shot down all of our hopes by saying there are currently no plans for a Batman TV show.

Wonder Woman Drama Amazon Won't Premiere This Fall

by SuperHeroHype

January 28, 2013

Deadline is reporting that the potential CW series Amazon, based on the DC comics character Wonder Woman, will not go to the pilot stage at this time. The series, however, will stay in development at The CW for a potential pick up next pilot season or an 'off-cycle pilot' later this year.

The last update reported about the series were that they were actively casting for the role of Diana and when the script and casting were right, a pilot would be ordered.

Amazon is the working title of the series with writer Allan Heinberg penning the pilot script. Heinberg is no stranger to The CW or Wonder Woman, having written both "Wonder Woman" comics and The CW series "Gilmore Girls."

The CW's Wonder Woman Series is Still Alive

by SuperHeroHype

May 16, 2013

The last we heard about The CW's "Wonder Woman" project, titled "Amazon," it was being reworked internally and would not be debuting in the fall of 2013. This seemed like a death sentence for the series to many, but EW is reporting that The CW President Mark Pedowitz says the series is still very much alive and in development.

"It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something that doesn’t do the franchise justice. It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters.”

Development on the pilot is no doubt in a similar state than it was a few months ago where the network was actively casting for the role of Diana except now Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite is working on a script instead of Allan Heinberg. It has been said before that should the project come together later this year, that an "off season" pilot could be ordered for the project with an eye toward a spring 2014 premiere.

The CW Puts Wonder Woman TV Series 'On Pause'

by SuperHeroHype

July 30, 2013

Off the heels of their announcement that The Flash might be getting his own TV series spinning out of Arrow, The CW President Mark Pedowitz said today their Wonder Woman pilot "Amazon" is being put "on pause" for the time being. "The script isn’t where we want it,” he said.“It’s better to wait and get it right.”

These developments echo similar comments Pedowitz made a few months ago, but with the project being officially "put on pause" we can forgo the previous reports of a Spring 2014 debut for the series as those no longer seem likely.

"Amazon" is said to be a retelling of the origin of Diana of Themyscira in a similar way that Arrow retold Oliver Queen's origin story. The news of a "Flash" spin-off from Arrow means the CW might be mulling over a similar path for the character in the future.

The CW is No Longer Developing the Wonder Woman Series Amazon

SuperHeroHype

Jan 15, 2014

Although it doesn't come as a huge surprise given the character's upcoming big screen plans in Batman vs. Superman, The Hollywood Reporter has today confirmed that The CW is no longer developing "Amazon," the planned series that would have followed a young Diana of Themyscira.

Put on hold in July, "Amazon" was being scripted by Allan Heinberg. It followed an earlier attempt at bringing the character to the small screen. In 2011, a "Wonder Woman" pilot with Adrianne Palicki in the lead was shot but never aired.

Wonder Woman fans will still have Gal Gadot's big screen turn as the classic heroine to look forward to and, while unconfirmed at this time, rumors have been swirling about a spinoff film for the heroine and/or a big screen Justice League feature film.

Batman vs. Superman, which also stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne, enters production soon for a July 17, 2015 release.
