Jason Statham Talks Fast and Furious 7

Actor discusses what's in store for his new character.

by Max Nicholson

June 21, 2013

Warning: Minor SPOILERS from Fast & Furious 6 to follow.

Fast & Furious fans were treated to a surprise cameo at the end of Justin Lin's Furious 6, as action star Jason Statham appeared in a cameo at the end of the film as Ian Shaw, the brother of slain villain Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Now, the actor is confirmed to appear in James Wan's Fast & Furious 7.

In a recent interview with Coming Soon, Statham was asked what he had planned to bring to his character in the upcoming sequel. Said the actor, "I'm gonna do what I do. [Laughs] Obviously we're trying to work out now what angle to come from. Some people say, 'Wait, are you gonna be the villain? The guy who threatens the world and wants to blow everything up?' No. 'What kind of an antagonist are you gonna be?' I'm not gonna say what I'm gonna be. The spoilers are the worst, when people already know what you're gonna do when you come and do it. 'You told us last year that's what you was gonna do and so you did it.' I'm gonna try and keep my mouth shut and not say what I'm gonna be doing."

The question now is, will production interfere with The Expendables 3? "No, we've worked it out," Statham said. "I'm gonna be able to do the two back-to-back... It's great to have two ensemble pieces where the weight's not on my shoulders. [I'm] just gonna have a little fun and enjoy myself."

Fast & Furious 7 hits theaters on July 11, 2014.

Tony Jaa Eyes Fast & Furious 7 Role

Source: ComingSoon

August 23, 2013

It looks like James Wan is assembling a pretty tough crowd for his Fast & Furious 7. In addition to the recently added MMA champion Rona Rousey, Thai actor and martial arts expert Tony Jaa is said to be in talks for a role. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Jaa would join Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson with many more franchise favorites expected to be confirmed in the days to come.

Jaa is best known for his Ong Bak franchise, which currently stands at three films. He also has recurring franchise roles in The Bodyguard and The Protector series (both of which currently have two films each).

Continuing from the cliffhanger tease at the end of Furious Six, Fast & Furious 7 is said to return the action to Los Angeles, although the production is eyeing an Atlanta shoot.

Kurt Russell Eyes Fast & Furious 7

Source: ComingSoon

August 30, 2013

Another high-profile name is eyeing a role in director James Wan's Fast & Furious 7 as Variety reports that Kurt Russell is in talks to play an undisclosed role. He would join Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jason Statham, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa and Tyrese Gibson with many more franchise favorites expected to be confirmed in the days to come.

Russell's career has been relativity quiet since his role in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof in 2007. He was planning on re-teaming with Tarantino for last year's Django Unchained, but left that project mid-production. In 2011, Russell starred in the football drama Touchback. Although his role in Fast & Furious 7 is unknown, the trade notes that it was initially offered to Denzel Washington.

Continuing from the cliffhanger tease at the end of Furious Six, Fast & Furious 7 is said to return the action to Los Angeles, although the production is eyeing an Atlanta shoot with a planned release date of July 11, 2014.

Universal Pictures Shuts Down Fast & Furious 7 Production

Source: ComingSoon

December 4, 2013

Universal Pictures has released an official statement on the status of Fast & Furious 7 following the death of Paul Walker in a fiery car accident on Saturday.

"Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul's immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers," said the studio. "At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker."

The James Wan-directed film was scheduled for a July 11, 2014 release. It is unclear if this means the movie may miss that date now.

Universal Working on Fast & Furious 7 Revisions for Possible January Restart

Source: ComingSoon

December 11, 2013

On December 4th, Universal Pictures announced the studio had shut down production for a period of time on Fast & Furious 7 following the death of Paul Walker.

According to a new article at The Hollywood Reporter, Universal had already poured about $150 million into the production and about half of Walker's filming was done. The actor was scheduled for considerable work on the film the week following his death.

The trade adds that the studio is trying to find a way to salvage footage already shot for Fast & Furious 7 instead of starting fresh. Screenwriter Chris Morgan is said to be doing revisions that Universal executives hope can retire Walker's character from the series using scenes already shot. If he succeeds, the cast and crew could return to the set by late January to finish the film.

If Morgan can't, the scrapping of the current version of the film could lead to the largest insurance claim in Hollywood history. The $150 million bill would have to be paid by the studio's insurance firm, Fireman's Fund. The report goes on to say that the studio does intend to release "Furious 7" and is planning an eighth film as well.

As was reported yesterday, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was already moved up a week to "Furious 7's" July 11, 2014 date, indicating that it is already known behind the scenes that Universal won't make that date.

Fast & Furious 7 Moved Back to April 2015

Source: ComingSoon

December 22, 2013

Following the death of Paul Walker on November 30th, Universal Pictures shut down production on Fast & Furious 7. While the studio did not immediately confirm that the release date would be pushed back as well, it was expected, and 20th Century Fox's decision a bit later to move Dawn of the Planet of the Apes up one week to July 11, 2014 made it almost a certainty that Universal wasn't going to make the date.

It was previously reported that Universal was hoping to resume production in late January 2014. Now, Vin Diesel has confirmed that the release date has been moved back to April 10, 2015, a date which the seventh installment has by itself at the moment. Diesel posted the below photo on Facebook and included the following:

The last scene we filmed together…

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we've come…

Fast and Furious 7 will be released…

April 10th 2015!

P.s. He'd want you to know first…

Directed by James Wan, the film also stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Tony Jaa, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou, Lucas Black and John Brotherton.

Fast and Furious 7 to Arrive One Week Earlier

Source: ComingSoon

July 2, 2014

Universal Pictures' Fast & Furious 7 is racing to a new release date, one week earlier. The James Wan film will now hit theaters Friday, April 3, 2015 instead of on April 10.

Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Tony Jaa, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou, Lucas Black, John Brotherton, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, Fast & Furious 7 continues the global exploits in the franchise built on speed with Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel returning as producers.

The April 3 date has Fast & Furious 7 going up against the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride. Although the latest entry in Wan's former horror franchise, Insidious Chapter 3, was scheduled for the April 3 date, it has just been moved to May 29, 2015.

Fast & Furious 7 Shares a Heartfelt Message as Production Wraps

Source: Fast and Furious 7, ComingSoon
July 10, 2014

Production has official wrapped on director James Wan's Fast & Furious 7 and the team has just shared the following message, celebrating the end of the production and again paying tribute to the late Paul Walker, whose Brian O'Conner will ride one more time when the film hits theaters April 3, 2015. They also unveiled a new photo of star Vin Diesel, which you can check out in the gallery viewer below.

Today we completed the last shot in the production of FAST & FURIOUS 7.

We wanted to take this moment to express how thankful we are for your support. We felt the love and strength from our fans throughout this journey, and it’s because of you that we got here.

There was a time when we didn’t know how we could go on, or even if we should. But we listened to you, and you inspired us not only to keep going but to try and make the best FAST & FURIOUS movie yet.

Our FAST family has been together for almost fifteen years now and has grown a lot in that time. From the start, Vin has been our leader who feels what’s right for FAST in his gut and in his heart. When we had to stop production last year, Vin gathered us back together and moved us forward when we needed it most. He led us to this day.

Some of us have been here from the very beginning. Vin, Michelle, Jordana and our producer Neal all go back to that first little movie we shot on the streets of LA. We came back to LA in FAST 7, and it was an especially emotional homecoming for those who’ve grown up with each other since that first shoot.

There are those we count as brothers who we gathered along the way and are with us again: Dwayne, Tyrese, Luda, Lucas and our writer, Chris. We’ve got some new additions this time in Jason, Kurt, Djimon, Nathalie and our director, James. Caleb and Cody joined us to honor their brother and help complete his work.

Our family is big and strong but it won’t ever quite be whole again without Paul.

All of us -- those who’ve been here from the start and those whose first FAST film is 7 -- wanted to create a special film for him and for you. We believe we have.

Thank you for being there for us. You are the biggest part of our family, and we couldn’t have gotten here without you.

The countdown to April 3 begins.

With love,

Your FAST & FURIOUS Family
