Locke & Key Planned as Big Screen Trilogy?

by SuperHeroHype

November 05, 2012

Joe Hill's comic book series Locke & Key appears to have found new life on the big screen. Last week, Latino Review ran a rumor that an adaptation is in development as a feature film trilogy and now both writer/producer Robert Orci and Hill himself have hinted at the rumor's veracity.

The IDW series tells of Keyhouse, a New England mansion with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them. The building is also home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all.

On Saturday, Orci tweeted the following:

“@Corpse_Bride17: Oh PLEASE say that the rumor about you and Kurtzman making #LockeAndKey a film trilogy is true. PLEASE PLEASE!” true

Hill followed suit earlier today, linking to a story at io9:

I don't think I can say anything about a possible LOCKE & KEY trilogy, but I think it's ok to retweet links: io9.com/5957862/robert…

Last year, Locke & Key was developed as a Fox pilot directed by Mark Romanek and featuring a script by Orci and his screenwriting partner, Alex Kurtzman. Orci and Kurtzman also produced alongside Steven Spielberg and Josh Friedman, but the network elected not to bring the show to series.

At the moment, there are few confirmed details regarding the potential trilogy and it is unknown whether or not Spielberg, Friedman and Romanek are still involved. Check back for more information as it becomes available.

Locke & Key Coming to the Big Screen

by SuperHeroHype

June 19, 2013

Way back in November, rumors began to circulate that writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were circling a deal to make a trilogy of films based on the IDW comic book series Locke & Key. Today, The Hollywood Reporter says that this deal has finally been put into place and the feature adaptation of the comic will be coming to the big screen from Universal Studios.

Kurtzman and Orci will produce along with their partner Bobby Cohen at K/O Paper Products. There's no mention of whether the pair will pen the screenplay for the film or whether a trilogy is still planned, as was originally rumored, but check back here for future updates on the project.

Locke & Key was originally planned as a television series at Fox, with a pilot even being produced, but it was eventually passed without a series pick-up.

The comic series, created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, tells the story of the Locke family who travel to a place called Keyhouse, a New England mansion with fantastic keys that open up doors that give them incredible abilities. The building is also home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all. The series is currently three issues away from the final issue, and we suggest you start catching up now!

Alex Kurtzman Talks Locke & Key Feature Film

by SuperHeroHype

September 09, 2013

It was announced back in June that Universal Studios is going forward with a feature film adaptation of IDW's Locke & Key with Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci producing - the pair wrote the canceled TV pilot based on the series back in 2010. Speaking with Collider, Kurtzman says that a writer has been found for the feature film and that they're keeping an eye toward the future.

"We have locked down on a writer who really came up with a brilliant way to take the best of the first couple graphic novels and play out a complete first movie story with a lot of promise of future movies, which is really our goal... I believe in it so much, and I believe in Joe Hill. All I want is to make that movie. "

When asked if he could name the writer, Kurtzman declined but did say, "We’re very close, though. Hopefully, it will be out soon. We really loved it, too. But, it will live on as a movie now, and hopefully many."

The comic series, created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, tells the story of the Locke family who travel to a place called Keyhouse, a New England mansion with fantastic keys that open up doors that give them incredible abilities. I still think this would work much, much better as a television series. It's been a fantastic story, but I'd hate to see what they would need to cut in order to get this down to three films...

Albert Torres to Script Locke & Key Feature

SuperHeroHype

Jul 10, 2014

Over a year ago it was revealed that writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci would be shepherding an adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic series Locke & Key for the big screen and now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that writer Albert Torres will pen the big screen adaptation. Torres previously wrote the 2008 film Henry Poole Is Here and even scripted a draft of the live action Ben 10 feature film. Check back here for future updates on the film as we learn them.

The comic series, published from 2008 to 2013 over the course of six volumes, tells the story of the Locke family who travel to a place called Keyhouse, a New England mansion with fantastic keys that open up doors that give them incredible abilities. Though the building is also home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all.
