First Images From Animated Film Superman: Unbound

by SuperHeroHype

January 07, 2013

Warner Home Video has a whole year full of DC animated titles coming our way. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 is currently available for download (available on DVD/Blu-ray later this month) and they've got two more coming at us. Later in the year, we will see an adaptation of the Flashpoint mini-series, but coming up before that is Superman: Unbound, an adaption of Geoff Johns 'Braniac' storyline from 2008.

TV Guide posted the first two images from the film. They also revealed that the 'Braniac' story is only the first part of the film, the second part will deal with Superman's trouble with the women in his life.

"As his romance with Lois heats up (in his secret identity as Clark Kent), he worries that she could be in jeopardy if his enemies discover their connection. And his paternal instincts drive him to be overprotective of the teenage Kara — despite the fact that she has super abilities on par with his."

Check out the images below and look back here soon for more details on Superman: Unbound.

Yawn.

I'm tired of Batman/Superman. The DCU is so much wider than just those two. How about another Justice League? Or the Teen Titans? Aquaman? Flash? How has Flash not gotten a DTV film yet? I'm not even a big Flash fan, but it'd be a nice change of pace.

Or Kingdom Come? Crisis? Secret Six? Yeah, that last one's a pipe dream. :(

Bad enough Batman dominates the toy aisles, does he have to dominate the DVDs as well?

All that being said, at least this one looks more interesting than the last Superman offering, which was the first one I skipped.

Well, he does get the next one, sort of... it's an adaptation of Flashpoint.

I can get behind that one because of Aquaman's major part in it.

Unless they replace him . . .

Superman: Unbound Gets a Release Date

by SuperHeroHype

February 04, 2013

Last week, we showed you the trailer for the upcoming DC animated film Superman: Unbound and we've now received word that the film will officially be released on May 7, 2013. You can read the full press release below.

SUPERMAN: UNBOUND is coming to Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and For Download via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on May 7, 2013.

WonderCon/Anaheim will host the World Premiere of SUPERMAN: UNBOUND in late March.

Based on the Geoff Johns/Gary Frank 2008 release "Superman: Brainiac," SUPERMAN: UNBOUND finds the horrific force responsible for the destruction of Krypton – Brainiac descending upon Earth. Brainiac has crossed the universe, collecting cities from interesting planets – Kandor, included – and now the all-knowing, ever-evolving android has his sights fixed on Metropolis. Superman must summon all of his physical and intellectual resources to protect his city, the love of his life, and his newly-arrived cousin, Supergirl.

The film’s stellar voicecast is led by Matt Bomer (White Collar) as Superman, John Noble (Fringe, The Lord of the Rings films) as Brainiac, Stana Katic (Castle) as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn (Castle) as Supergirl.

Supervising Producer James Tucker (Justice League, Batman: The Braveand the Bold) also directs the film from a script by Bob Goodman (Warehouse 13, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns).

Agreed. This looks good but I wish they would expand on the other characters the DC Universe has to offer.

Really wish they had chosen another of John's Superman stories, the Action run where they updated the Legion. This could have served to get the Legion into the larger consciousness. And it was a great story with tons of characters, which is what I like.

I wish they would do a No Man Land movie. I think it would great at retail and give a Batman story that the mainstream is not familiar with. Also would love a New Teen Titans movie, sad they canceled Judas Contract. Sorry but Teen Titans go left a bad taste in my mouth so I think Timm and company owe a good Teen Titans movie.

The problem isn't Timm and his crew, it's the bean counters at WB that see only Batman and Superman movies selling in the numbers they want so they won't greenlight the funds for anything outside of those two unless it's a Justice League movie because it's got both or it's a tie-in to a theatrical release like the last Green Lantern DTV.

...and am I the only one that really misses the Showcase shorts?...

After the repellent Catwoman short, I can firmly say I don't miss them at all.

Heh. I actually liked the Catwoman short.

The Green Arrow one was solid, too.

Yeah. I definitely miss the Showcase shorts.

I'd like to also see some of the DC Nation shorts start getting collected and released on DVD or download sometime soon as well.

The Catwoman one I haven't seen so I can't speak to that, but I thought they other four were great...
