Shuler Donner Producing Metal Men! Source: superherohype.comApril 4, 2007 The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. Pictures has set up the comic book adaptation Metal Men with producer Lauren Shuler Donner ("X-Men" films, Constantine). Eric Champnella has been brought on board to write. Based on a DC Comics series created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, the story revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers associated with their respective metals -- gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. Instead of having to be programmed, the Metal Men can think for themselves, which is both their genius and their biggest flaw. The heroes made their first appearance in "Showcase," where they were created as filler but proved to be unexpectedly popular and received their own title. The heroes served as a dysfunctional family, and the stories balanced sentimentality, humor and action. Jack Leslie of the Donners' Company also is producing. Geoff Johns, who was an assistant to Richard Donner before becoming one of the comic world's renowned writers, helped develop the take and will executive produce. Mike ( )

If it happens it could be most interesting. I would hope it would be an action/adventure/comedy. Then they should make the Challengers of the Unknown

Barry Sonnenfeld Attached to The Metal Men Filmby SuperHeroHypeJune 21, 2012 "Men in Black" director Barry Sonnenfeld has been looking to adapt another comic book property for the big screen and it turns out he's going way back for the picture. According to Vulture, he is attached to direct an adaptation of DC's The Metal Men. For those unaware, the series centers on Dr. William Magnus and the six cyborgs that he creates all from a different element - Gold, Tin, Iron, Lead, Mercury, and Platinum. The six robots each have powers corresponing to their namesake too. No word on a screenwriter or any other details, but keep an eye open here for more info.

Why?
Okay I get it... there's some of you who are Metal Men fans... I get it... but why can't they first concentrate on the mainstream characters and get them right?

Honestly, I think they have a better shot of getting the more obscure characters "done right" than they ever will with the top tier mainstream heroes.
There are just too many people with too many expectations walking into a "superman" or "spider-man" to ever truly get everything "right".
And, yes, I will acknowledge the amazing success that Marvel has crafted with the Avengers characters and their movies. But that doesn't automatically guarantee success for every other franchise to follow suit.
Me, personally, would love to see the Metal Men done on the big screen. Give it to Pixar. Give it to ILM. Make it a goofy romp, a sci fi epic, or just a big ol Monster v Robot smackdown.
So long as it is FUN, I'll be there with my son in tow.
