I was just sitting here thinking about Hasbro's Marvel Universe action figures. And the random thought that popped into my head was that Mattel was the license holder for Marvel action figures in the 80s with their Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars line. At the same time Kenner (now part of Hasbro) had the DC license with their Super Powers line. Anyone else find it ironic that the licenses are reversed now?
I know when I was collecting Mattel's JLU there was a special moment when the JLU surpassed the Kenner Super Powers line by number of characters. And I know there was a special article when the DCUC line matched the Super Powers assortment of characters. I don't know if JLU ever did.
Anyway that Mattel/Super Powers idea got me to thinking if Hasbro matched the Mattel Secret Wars assortment. Let's see...
Absorbing Man (Hasbro only) Baron Zemo (Mattel only) Bulldozer (Hasbro only) Captain America (Mattel and Hasbro) Constrictor (Mattel and Hasbro) Cyclops (Hasbro only) Daredevil (Mattel and Hasbro) Dr. Doom (Mattel and Hasbro) Dr. Octopus (Mattel and Hasbro) Electro (Mattel and Hasbro) Enchantress (Hasbro only) Falcon (Mattel and Hasbro) Hawkeye (Hasbro only) Hobgoblin (Mattel and Hasbro) Hulk (Hasbro only) Human Torch (Hasbro only) Iceman (Mattel and Hasbro) Iron Man (Mattel and Hasbro) Kang (Mattel only) Klaw (Hasbro only) Magneto (Mattel and Hasbro) Mr. Fantastic (Hasbro only) Nightcrawler (Hasbro only) Piledriver (Hasbro only) Spider-Man (Mattel and Hasbro) Spider-Man black (Mattel and Hasbro) Spider-Woman (Hasbro only) Storm (Hasbro only) Thing (Hasbro only) Thor (Hasbro only) Thunderball (Hasbro only) Ultron (Hasbro only) Wasp (Hasbro only) Wolverine (Mattel and Hasbro)
I know there are other characters that Hasbro has released that were part of the comic story Secret Wars but I kept the list to those that matched Mattel one-on-one and those that are actually part of the Hasrbo Secret Wars series. That's why I didn't include the Wrecker.
Hasbro still needs Baron Zemo and Kang to match Mattel.

Yeah Spenser Doc Ock is in the Spiderman line, still would prefer him in the MU Line though, would love to see a Kang and Baron Zemo (But strangely not from the Secret Wars, I want the Newer Version).

I saw a Doc Ock in the Spider-Man: Origins line but that's a larger scale. I couldn't find one in 3 3/4". If you could just link me to one I would appreciate it.

I saw the Doc Ock in the 3 3/4 Spider-man line a week or so ago. Very underwhelming. I don't think it was made with collectors in mind, which is odd since villains are usually one per case. Kids may like it though.

If you want a decent 3.75 in Doc Ock (and Venom while we're at it), track down Toybiz's Superhero Showdown versions. They kick all kinds of @$$.
Along with Invisible Woman, I used SH characters until Hasbro gets around to making them.

Only issue I have with Showdown 3 3/4" is that alot of them are rather flimsy. I've a few that literally just fall apart. Not great in the quality control dept. Great sculpts in most cases but some are shoddy. If you can find a doc ock that won't have a leg or arm fall off, gratz. I've seen two and both were a waste of funds for me. I sold them to other collectors who had custom work in mind thankfully.

You do realize when the figures "break" break like that it is simple to put the arms or legs right back on. That was a purposefull design for ease of cusomization. You could remove and add limbs without real effort and repaint a figure how you wanted, at least that was the intention. The problem was they maide a few body types and didn't expand the line far enough to have enough variety (Cause toybiz lost the licence of course).

Yep, I got that. Still often too flimsy for a kid to play with imho.

Two different Secret Wars action figure lines and the Beyonder didn't make it into either.

Kang and Baron Zemo MUST be made. This is NOT optional, Hasbro. Plus, we'd like a decent MU Doc Ock, if you please.
That said, the SHS Doc Ock is not nearly as flimsy as many of the other figures. He's also the pudgy Ock, which makes the slight differences in scale and style more easily ignored. He sates my heart's desire for a 3.75" Doc Ock, and thus can I sleep at night.
Still, MU has done an awesome job becoming the premiere Marvel toy line at 5" or under, and I like many of its designs and articulation better than many of the ML's that I've seen. Just... Kang. Zemo. POWER PACK. You can do it, Hasbro.
