From IGN:

Fright Night Director for Zombies

Craig Gillespie reportedly up for helming Jane Austen-horror mashup.

February 8, 2011

Lionsgate's hunt for a director to helm its adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is becoming almost as much of a story as the Jane Austen tale the horror satire is based on.

Vulture reports that the latest contender the studio is eying to direct -- after Lionsgate denied the Christopher Smith rumors to IGN -- is Craig Gillespie, who directed Lars and the Real Girl and Showtime's The United States of Tara.

Gillespie is also the director of DreamWorks' forthcoming remake of the 1980s horror-comedy Fright Night. Perhaps it's that film that might land Gillespie the gig, if this report pans out.

From IGN:

James Bond May Go to Sony

Distributor of Casino Royale and QoS nears a deal with MGM.

February 8, 2011

Sony Pictures is reportedly closing in on attaining the distribution rights to the James Bond franchise.

Deadline claims that, while other studios still are in pursuit of the franchise, Sony is expected to prevail as it's supposedly given in to more of MGM's demands than not.

According to Deadline, "Sony is agreeing to allow MGM's new leadership to leverage the next Bond pic, and indeed the Bond franchise, to create more cash flow for the reconstituted studio post-bankruptcy. The new brass, Spyglass Entertainment co-owners Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum who are now the Co-Chairmen andCEOs of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, are finishing negotiations to co-finance a number of films with Sony."

One of the films that Sony has reportedly agreed to give MGM a co-financing deal on is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, starring none other than 007 himself, Daniel Craig.

Batman: Arkham City Comic Book Miniseries Announced

by SuperHeroHype

Feb 9th, 2011

What happened between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City?

DC Comics has announced a Batman: Arkham City comic book miniseries which will show what happened since the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum:

Batman: Arkham Asylum was one of the most successful video games of 2009, and earned a Guinness World Record for the “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever.” This May, find out what happened between Batman: Arkham Asylum and its highly anticipated sequel in BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, a six-issue miniseries that bridges the gap between the two games, and leads into the game’s release this fall.

Written by Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini (who also penned both Arkham games) and drawn by Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City concept artist Carlos D’anda, BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY picks up one year after the original game, where former Arkham Warden turned newly elected Mayor of Gotham City Quincy Sharp has decided to close down the infamous institution. In its stead, he establishes “Arkham City,” the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, inmates can roam free and do whatever they want as long as they don’t try to escape. To run this urban prison, Sharp has appointed Dr. Hugo Strange, a man who knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman.

Each issue of the miniseries will be available day-and-date digitally worldwide for $2.99 each. These releases will alternate with 8-page digital-first interludes that will expand on the story included in the miniseries. Written by Dini and drawn by a variety of artists, these digital stories will focus on The Dark Knight’s many enemies as they vie for power in this new city within a city. Each eight-page digital-first interlude will be available for .99 cents, releasing in between issues of the miniseries, and will later be included in print in the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY collected edition.

“The digital first stories offer a unique incentive for fans to experience interesting and exciting stories beyond the pages in the printed comic,” said Jim Lee, DC Comics Co-Publisher, “The additional pages will serve as interludes within the regular issues and won’t be necessary to follow the main story of the miniseries. Fans will also be able to read these interludes in print later, when we publish the collected edition.”

Read the comic before you play the game, and keep an eye out for the issue #1 variant cover, utilizing in-game graphics.

BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY will double-ship in its first month, with issues 1 & 2 landing in May.

Titans Will Clash with The Hunger Games

Source: ComingSoon

February 9, 2011

Warner Bros. Pictures has moved Clash of the Titans 2 up a week from March 30 to March 23, 2012. This is the same date as Lionsgate had scheduled the Gary Ross-directed The Hunger Games. Will the latter stay on the date?

To be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Clash of the Titans 2 stars Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Edgar Ramirez and Rosamund Pike.

The sequel will be filmed in 3D rather than converted after-the-fact.

Cabin in the Woods Might Have a Home

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

February 9, 2011

In an article over at Variety about MGM, its constant woes and catalog of unreleased titles that need a home, it was revealed that Sony Pictures may shoulder distribution duties for some of the films sitting on MGM's shelf and the studio's 4,000+ title library.

The Cabin in the Woods, Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's horror film, was one of the flicks specifically mentioned in the piece.

The deal isn't finalized, but the trade paper says things are looking good.

Also languishing at MGM, the Dowdle Bros. film The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

If the deal goes through, we'll see how fast Sony moves to get Cabin into theaters.

Coen Brothers May/May Not Do a Horror Film Next

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

February 9, 2011

From the "may/may not" files (since so many news items concern people who "might" do something, these days)...

Empire spoke to Ethan Coen of True Grit, The Big Lebowski, Miller's Crossing and countless other terrific films. And although Coen has echoed in various reports that he's not sure what project he'll work on next with brother Joel, they do have a horror script they're tinkering away on.

"Yes, we're working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster," he said. McDormand, a Coen brothers movie fixture, as "the monster"? I like what I'm hearing.

I also like what Ethan says about a potential follow-up to Barton Fink. Follow this link for more.

Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman Move to The Wettest County

Source: ComingSoon

February 9, 2011

Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and (as recently rumored) Mia Wasikowska are now all confirmed for director John Hillcoat's Wettest County in the World, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new additions will join Shia LaBeouf (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), Jason Clarke (Public Enemies) and Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life).

An adaptation of Matt Bondurant's upcoming novel and based on a true story, The Wettest County in the World revolves around a moonshine gang operating in the bootlegging capital of America -- Franklin County, Va. -- during Prohibition. The novel draws its roots from Bondurant's grandfather and two granduncles, who made up a fierce criminal gang at the center of the country's moonshine trade.

Pearce is said to play an "overly violent" police officer and Oldman a gangster/bootlegger. Wasikowska will play LaBeouf's love interest.

Nick Cave wrote the screenplay for the film, which is scheduled to start shooting in the spring.
