Naw, man, don't be a copper thief. They're rampant out here, and stole so many of my school's bleachers (which had copper on the underside) that they had to close off a third of the seats! They also stripped the copper out of two of the massive field lights, rendering them useless. Copper thieves are scum.

No, I would never steal the copper out of something that is being used. This is all the scrap that comes from tearing down a strip mall. Its all getting neatly stacked and sorted at the demo site just waiting for transport to the scrap/recycle yard.
My uncle owns a few rental properties and I've had to go to and help him repair the plumbing after a "tenant" stole the copper pipes. The guy even ripped open some walls to get at what was there leading into the bathroom and kitchen. The law got involved and it ended in my uncle's favor, but what a hassle. Now he goes in after purchase, strips out all the copper himself and replaces it all with new pvc. The money he gets from selling off the copper pays for all the new piping, plus the plumbers fees to install, plus a bit extra for his own troubles.

I didn't realize copper was worth so much.

#1 insulated wire is $1.50 lb. #2 is $1.00 lb. #2 is like telephone wire.

Mine was all replaced with PVC, but the old copper pipes are still down there. I used one that's driven down into the soil to ground electrical outlets in my house. That was a much better option than buying a copper rod for it.

Yeah, its kinda a catch 22.
If you are buying an old property, you kind of want the original elements that made you want the older house.
My son's mother bought a 200 year old farmhouse because of the original wood work and hand poured windows. But everything is off balance and drafty. She would love to get new windows and reset the floor but then she would lose everything she bought the house for.
Kind of like those vintage car guys who go nuts when they find out that one of the engine bolts isn't the factory original ...

Well, you could always get some scrap metal like they did in Tulsa. Seems a Jr. High School (I think they call them middle school now) went out one morning to raise the flag only to find that theives had cut down the aluminum flag pole in the night. Apparently for scrap profits!

I had a friend whose ROTC unit stole a rival schools howitzer and buried it under the 50 yard line of that schools practice field. He said so far as he knows it is still there.

Hell, out here they've stolen manhole covers and SEWER GRATES! Talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen.
And who's gonna buy scrap metal that says "Property of the City of Mesa" on it?
Sigh. Drugs make people stupid.

Its not the drugs that makes them stupid. Its the fact that we glorify ignorance as a role model that makes them stupid.

So I went to the "other" Walmart for a few things, the one I stopped going to because they did the reorganization thing, and I mentioned to the girl at the register that I stopped coming there because of that, because it made them cut out some products that i get regularly. She said "You know the guy who came up with that idea? They fired him." CCC.

I went thru my Walmart a couple of nights ago and they had the planogram sheets out. I guess I need to learn how to read those things. Tonight I did my regular grocery shopping and saw most of the yellow lantern guys wave.
