Hi all.

I've not been on the forums for a while for a few reasons. A lot has to do with Mattel not putting much DC stuff out, but more importantly is this:

Image

We're at 20 weeks as of this Monday just gone, with no signs of a horn or tail yet. The wee bugger is a bit shy so we don't know gender, nor can we see the face yet, but everything looks healthy so far.

Those of you who know me know that this is a big deal for us - my wife is disabled and we didn't know how it would affect her physically. She's determined not to be off work any longer than necessary (not sure how it works in the states, but she will get six weeks of maternity leave, I get two weeks of paternity) and we have plans in place to use the mother-in-law, childcare and probably me taking a day off a week once this and annual leave runs out.

Its a scary time.

Jo

Congratulations!

By far, the best feeling in the world when you finally get to hold that one in your hands.

Thanks guys.

The big challenge at the moment is getting all those jobs we've been putting off the last few years done in time.

This weekend is putting down new flooring in the hallway and nursery, painting the nursery, fitting a sliding door on the bathroom and stopping the cats sleeping on the new pushchair.

Next scan is Tuesday, and hopefully we'll have a face to show off then.

Oh, and Charlotte passed then next of her pregnancy milestones this week - sneezing and peeing herself. For some reason she wasn't amused when I laughed.

Congratulations and look forward to your priorities shifting. Instead of looking for cool stuff for yourself, you'll be bending over backwards finding cool stuff for them. I've become quite the Thomas the train aficionado since my son has been born.

Still couldn't see the gender though.

Congrats Jo! That's fantastic news. I wish you and your wife the best, and health and prosperity for the little one.

Thank you.

Everything is still going well, aside from the expected aches and pains. The bump is threatening to stop her getting to the steering wheel soon, so we may have to look at other transport options to get to work.

Fun and games,

Jo

Congratulations! It's the best thing in the world.

My wife and I tried for the first twelve years of our marriage to start a family, and had no luck at all. We finally gave up and started looking into adoption, or getting our minds around the idea of it just being us if adoption didn't work out -- we were getting pretty old at the time, almost 40, and at least in Pennsylvania, adoption over 40 is extremely unlikely.

Of course, as soon as we gave up, within six weeks my wife was pregnant.

Man, I loved seeing those ultrasounds. Not so much of a fan of the continual tests to make sure everything was OK (each of us has our own set of health difficulties.) But everything was indeed OK, the birth was on time and without complication, and now she's a junior in college.

People will give you advice, or try to commiserate about whatever development phase the pregnancy (and later on, the kid) is in. Ignore them. Every day is great, every phase is a treasure, and if my experience is any indication, the next twenty years are going to whiz by so fast in retrospect that your head will spin. (I still sometimes ask myself, wasn't I changing diapers just six weeks or so ago?)

I hope things continue to go well for you, and again, congratulations!

Thanks Mentos, sorry I haven't updated this.

We're 5 weeks away from the due date at this point in time, with everything going as planned so far.

As it stands, the plan is for both of us to keep working until as late as possible, partly because we live in a village and are 30 mins drive from the hospital, compared to being at work where we are a 15 mins walk.

No word on gender yet - we've had three scans and it's been awkward every time. The good news as far as my wife is concerned is that it doesn't appear to have inherited her disability, we've seen two legs, two arms with all the right number of joints. It's no bother to me, I think a mini version of her would be very cute, but she prefers that it has everything it should have.

I'll try to keep you all in the loop,

Jo

Hi folks

Just thought I'd put in a quick update as we had another appointment today and we're sitting at 13 days to go to the due date.

Nothing really new to report: still can't identify gender from the scans, but everything is looking as it should and we're on track to deliver at around the 13th, maybe a day or two later.

Next Tuesday she's going in to get a line with a canula in her neck that can be left in place until labour starts. She's not too happy about the situation, but without elbows there aren't any simple ways to get a line in once we go in, plus they're thinking if she has a bleed or anything like that she will be at higher risk of bleeding out quickly so they want early, easy access.

More updates as they come,

Jo
