Is anyone else getting one of the new Macbook Pro laptops that Apple announced last Thursday? My Powerbook (from summer of 05) finally died back in November and I've been saving money since then to get a new one. The only thing I was waiting for was the next announcement of new hardware so I ordered one last Thursday night and it will be here tomorrow! It's going to be so nice not to share with my wife anymore. She hates sharing a computer with me because I'm on it a lot when I'm at home haha. Anyway, anyone else picking one up? Considering it? Already got one?

My MB Pro is a little over 3 years old at this point and is still working great. They do look really nice.

I'll be interested to see what new features the iPad II incorporates too. Hopefully there will be news on that soon. I like the one I have but if it gets the higher resolution screen and a couple other things I'll probably upgrade.

I still have my Powerbook G4 (from 05' also). It still works well, but it's giving me signs that it's time for the Macbook Pro. I'm seriously contemplating it, because my PB only recognizes external devices whenever the hell it feels like it. It won't talk to my printer or my scanner at all, and it won't sync with my daughter's ipod (but it will with mine :?). It also won't communicate with my 1 TB external hard drive my wife bought me for my birthday in November. That's the most problematic, since my hard drive is full, and I have to delete something every time I download something. Annoying.

I just wish the Macbooks weren't so damned expensive. But I'm hooked now, and I'll never buy another PC (for myself) again.

Man they are expensive but once you use one you can't go back to a PC. I hate using my computer at work. Like I said though I did save a lot for this and I also pretty much asked for cash for Christmas to go towards this.

Haha well thanks. This thing really is impressive though. Such a huge upgrade even from my wifes 09 Pro.

Glad you're enjoying your new machine...anything else tangible to report as differences from the 09?

Well I got the 15 in. so I have Quad cores and more powerful graphics than her machine. I also did the HD screen upgrade and I'm very glad I did. It looks amazing. I would say speed is the biggest difference. Everything is faster, from browsing the internet to launching applications. When I first launched Safari, it popped up almost before I was done clicking. Reminded me of the new Airs if you've had a chance to play with those. I transferred all my music/movies/tv shows to my new machine last night which went faster than I expected. What really impressed me though was how fast iTunes added the content after I transferred it over. 130 gb of tv shows were in iTunes and ready to go in under a minute.

I also have Snow Leopard, while she still has Leopard so I've got the Facetime program and the Mac App Store. Both of those have been fun to play around with. There's also the Thunderbolt port but I don't have anything to test that with yet.

The Facetime camera is also much better. The new one is capable of 720p video. We did a facetime chat between us with my computer and her iPhone and the images looked really good.

Nothing else I can think of right now but I've only had a few hours to play around with it so I'm sure I'll find more things.

I'm already in line for the Verizon iPhone when I renew my contract in June and I'll pick up and iPad 2 at the time as well.

As much as I desperately NEED to ditch the old laptop, I just don't have the fund right now. Hopefully by Christmas ...

With an iPhone and an iPad, you may not feel like you need a laptop anymore.

Well, my Powerbook G4 finally died on me. I took it to the Apple Store, and they told me that they no longer made parts for it. So they referred me to another place. They ran a diagnostic on it (for $45) and told me told me that the board was shot. With labor and parts it would end up costing more than it was worth. Sigh.

I'm using my daughter's teeny tiny Dell notebook right now. It's so freaking uncomfortable. My fingers are constantly hitting the wrong keys because the keyboard is so cramped. Oh well. At least I have an alternative. Somehow, someway, I have to get the money together to get a MacBook. Even if it's not a MacBook Pro.

I don't know what you had before the 13 in. Air and the 13 in. Pro are really nice and the most affordable.
