My aunt used to have a dog that she named "peeve" so whenever anyone came over she could say, "this is my pet peeve". Yeah, my family has THAT kind of sense of humor. (it's a wonder I've made it this far in life ... )

Not necessarily, Glenn. I'm still south of 40 and I think it's a waste of time.

Most of my pet peeves come from the absurd celebration of ignorance this country seems to perpetuate.
That, and people who stop randomly for no reason. e.g. Walking down the mall, person in front of me stops for no reason making me lose my stride and/or bumping into someone else. e.g. Driving down the road, person in front of me comes to a complete stop before making a right hand turn and there are no other cars on the road for a mile in any direction. e.g. Someone starts telling a story, stops mid sentence for no apparent reason (not a dramatic pause, just a stop) ...
GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY!
sorry 'bout that but it really peeves me off.

I'm pushing 60, so this will impact me sooner than most of you, but I am amazed by all these old people - you know what I'm talking about. The ones that look like God's parents - driving around. Have to look through the steering wheel to see. And that's after climbing up on three pillows stacked in the seat. The top speed is15 miles per hour. And God forbid another car should come towards them. They stop until the other vehicle passes! And they all drive cars that are at least as big as an Abrams Battle Tank. Then, in the parking lot of the supermarket, Mall, Wal-Mart, what-have-you, they are passed by snails as the creep along looking for a parking spot close to the doors!
All this makes me long for the days of Soylent Green. . .

All this makes me long for the days of Soylent Green. . . Let me jump off that last part about them looking for parking spaces...because this is a pet peeve of mine. People who park in the handicap spots who have no business being there. Being on crutches for a few weeks does not make you handicapped. Having your grandparents pass on your car does not make you handicapped. Being fat does not make you handicapped. If all these moochers would park in normal spots, then the really old people who have a hard time even getting out, wouldn't be prowling for spots at the front of the lot for 20 minutes.

A few of my Pet Peeves:
1) Prejudice in all forms - Be it Whites hating Blacks, Blacks hating Whites, Anti-Gays hating Gays, etc.... What's wrong with the human race can people not just agree to disagree and move on. 2) Overtly Religious People (and I do mean overt, the ones that have to be in your face preaching at you, and you had better not be the wrong religion otherwise you are going to hear how evil and morally wrong you are - and I hate to says this beacause it sounds as if I am being prejudice and I am not, but it seems to be mainly from the supposed Christian People, now I have real Chrisitan Friends and they wouldn't dream of ramming their religion down your throat). 3) People who can't put away Shopping Carts, they just leave them when just two feet away is the Shopping Cart Home (can never think as to what to call them, actually have the Shopping Cart homes got names?) 4) Rude Drivers, ones that need to be in front of you even when you are the only 2 on the road, it's a Me, Me and Me again mentality. 5) Anyone with the Me, Me and Me Mentality, you don't always have to be first in everything you do, it's ok coming last or even worse second. 6) Scalpers in any form, be it the guy who claims he is selling it at the price that the item is currently going for on the second market, or the guy who swoops in and loads his cart with every item he can see that he knows will make money.

When did being gay become a race? I think you mean "prejudice" in all forms.

A few I thought of recently
Commercials than are twice as loud as the show i'm watching
women drivers, especially the ones who choose that time to do their makeup
people who think it's ok to stop in the middle of an aisle/parking lot/doorway to carry on a conversation
websense
fast food places being stingy with sauce packets
