Oh man, don't get me started on poor customer service. It really sucks these days in every retail location and place that has to deal with the public, like hospitals. Especially with younger workers. I know I'm sounding like an old grumpy man, but it is depressing to see how ill mannered people are these days.

Spending 7.50 for a 1/2 liter bottle of water, during dinner in Italy
.. I was there for 9 days-- and probably spent near 300.00 just on water---
not to mention--
Cramming to learn Italian in 3 weeks-- and then getting over there and not having to use it once-- (I mean some stores were all in English-- you wouldnt have even known you are in Italy)
And if a whole other country in the middle of Europe can all speak English-- why the hell do we have to have signs in Spanish over here...

You'll get no argument on that from me. English should be our official language.

You wouldn't believe how many of my students don't feel this way or don't understand it. They'll say hello in spanish because they know it annoys me and I'll tell them to speak english because this is America. They'll come back with "but we need to know spanish here" and when I ask them if people in Mexico would learn English to accommodate them, it dawns on them that it might be a little strange that we do so much to accommodate them.

Regarding students, I've got the same problem over here in AZ. And when I tell them to speak English in my classroom, some of them call it racist. And a lot of the same kids that constantly use Spanish in class don't even bother to stand for the Pledge. And before you ask, I was told to let it go, because administration "has bigger fish to fry." We're in BIG trouble in this country.

I do not think we should need an official language. People coming here should be intelligent enough to know that is what they need to learn to function here. My grandfather came through Ellis Island and nobody bent over backwards to learn Italian for him. At the same time, I do not think it should be called English because that is not really what we speak. As Gen. Patton once said, we are two people divided by a common language.
The problem is the Mexicans. We get as many as them if not more as we do from all of the rest of South America combine. They act like they don't need to try because they are so close to Mexico as it is and there are so many of them. They even discriminate against the other S. Americans. If it was so great and they like it so much and are so proud of their heritage, why did they leave? (rhetorical)

I have the same problem and unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it either. It infuriates me. And people are NOT smart enough to think that they need to learn english and all the PC lovers in this country are more than happy to bend over backwards to their will.

Yes it has. I just wish we could find a balance to things. We've gone from being a bunch of (Censored) to a bunch of (Censored)
