Oklahoma State had a shot to play for the title this year. They blew it when they lost to Iowa State.

Now, do I like that only 2 teams play for the title in this process? Eh. I really like the +1 idea, and I'm hoping it goes to 8 teams. But NO auto bids. None at all. Alabama had a shot this year. They blew it when they lost to LSU... Wait -- what..  Alabama vs LSU game one, as far as who played, is irrelevant, because that's not in the rules. Simple as that. There isn't a rule that says you have to win your conference, or you can't play a team you already lost...in order to qualify for the title game. So Alabama vs LSU for a "shot" is no different than Stanford losing to Oregon, or Okie Light losing to Iowa State. So it all played out. For years it's been about when you lost and who you lost too. Okie Light shouldn't have lost late in the season to a 6-6 team. So each team (alabama included) had their shot and blew it, but Alabama rotated back into the game.
