Speaking as a liberal and someone who suffers from mental illness and has struggled through it for years that's a pretty crappy thing to say. But then, I'm starting to realize, you're a pretty crappy person.

Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker would be my first choice for President. But I will gladly settle for President Barack Obama. And, after The President's second term in office concludes, I will be quite happy when Hilary Rodham Clinton steps up and takes command. Let the millionaires try and figure out how to legally swindle and squeeze money from the 99% after their so-called hope loses his bid for the Presidency. Palpatine's Empire did come to an end, and so will this last stand of the Republicans.

There. That should kick things off again just nicely

I'd take her over Obama. At least she's a moderate.

My guy was Ron Paul, so I'll hold my nose and vote for Romney. Obama's done enough damage to this (once) great country.

We can keep this up all day, Howard.

BTW I'd vote for Solo over Skywalker.

Yeah I'd vote Solo too... but come on, W is the one who did the most damage. Anyone who came into office these past four years would be met with the same criticism B-Rock has received. Anyone who won last term was damned. I'd take Paul over Romney any day. And I'm not even Republican... beyond politics, something ain't right about Romney... he don't live on normal Earth with the rest of us. I really don't feel comfortable with him on the ballet. Hell, I'd suffer another 4 years of W over Romney.

I'd take W. over Romney. Heck, I'd probably take Bill Clinton over Romney.

I'd take JFK, Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr. and Truman over Romney.

But I'll take Romney over Obama (and over Carter, too).

That's how bad a job I think he's doing.

Yeeeep! Perhaps it's his robotic demeanor. Cold. Unfeeling. Programmed. M-U-S-T N-O-T S-P-E-A-K T-O P-R-E-S-S. Maybe it's his nervous chuckle every time he is asked about his taxes. Or lack thereof. A tell, so to speak in the poker world. He flip-flops more than the grillmaster at Mickey D's during lunchtime rush. And let's not forget that pesky 'Let's cut taxes for the folks who really need it...the millionaires' tack. Sheesh, give a 'millionaire' an $87,000.00 yearly tax cut, and he(or she, to be fair) will go put a down payment on a fourth vacation home. Oh, but they're supposed to let those savings trickle on down to MiddleClassVille. Riiiiight! Mitt Romney is a hollow shell of a right-wing shill. A frontman for all that some parts of the country stands for: Chick-Fil-A eatin', Bible-thumpin', man walking with dinosaurin', money-grabbing-greedier-than-a-Black Hole in a cosmic sea full of stars, zero rights for women/perfectly legal registered voters in swing states governed by Republican governors/gay people/naturalized American citizens who speak Spanish better than English/I need a gun to defend the country against possible invasion by Canada if/when our own Armed Forces can't defend the US of A...man, is this a run-on sentence or what?

The only Solo who would really excel at President would be Former Chief-of-State of the Galactic Alliance Leia Organa Solo. But, I'd be more apt to follow Jaina Solo, personally. Nothing against General Han Solo.

Ron Paul? I like him. Mainly because he sucks votes away from the Republican side. Other than that, I know very little about him.

Jeeze, Howard. Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?

I simply want the government out of my life as much as possible. So don't tell me I have to buy health insurance, wear a seatbelt, can't use a cell phone when I drive, can't own the types of guns I want, have to pay taxes to a bloated, ineffective bureacracy, can't express my religious beliefs without my PRIVATE company being boycotted (which didn't work out so well, thanks for the RECORD profits on Wednesday), can't voice concern over millions of illegal aliens pouring over a largely undefended border, or hold/express ANY viewpoint that doesn't happen to be politically correct at the time.

Freedom of speech. Right to bear arms. Right to freedom of religion (or from religion if you want). Freedom of association. Right to privacy. Individual responsibility. Equal playing field, not equal outcomes. You keep what you earn. Etc. Etc.

It's not that hard to understand, really.

Look at that, no name-calling about Obama.

Take notes, Howard. That's how you debate.

I'm writing this down, this is good stuff :)

Shellhead, this above qoute of yours: 'Freedom of speech. Right to bear arms. Right to freedom of religion (or from religion if you want). Freedom of association. Right to privacy. Individual responsibility. Equal playing field, not equal outcomes. You keep what you earn. Etc. Etc'...

It sounds great, and I even agree with you there. Pretty much. It's just that the Republican way of doing things has become less about actual doing good for the people, and more about obstructing anything and everything that The President attempts to accomplish. And the middle class will be the ones to feel the pain most of all. We could have an estimated one million more jobs right now if the Republicans didn't wholly block Barack Obama's infrastructure initiative. They would love for The President to be labeled as a do-nothing and take all the blame, where all it would take to get the country moving in a better direction would be for The Right to compromise, or at least step back and honestly consider what would be good for the entire country, and not for the upper crust of society.

Plus, a lot of what Republicans stand for is hidden behind what I see as radical religious agendas. There is no reason whatsoever why gay persons cannot marry, other than the fact that religious groups are up in arms about it. As if men and women hold the sanctity of marriage in the highest regard in 2012. In fifty years, America will look back and laugh, sadly and mockingly, at the extreme intolerance aimed at the homosexual community. If not for society moving forward and embracing change for the better, we would still live in a hypocritical America where women could not vote, and where African-Americans would be treated as second-class 'citizens'. Look at all of the businesses who 'proudly stood their ground' and segregated American citizens back in the day. Within fifty years, Chick-Fil-A will quite possibly apologize for their stunning lack of human empathy and understanding on the issue. Live how you wish to live, as long as it does not harm others. if Jack and Joe want to marry, let them. It takes nothing away from any loving heterosexual marriage.

I'll tackle the financial stuff later on.

Like I've said before, both here and on other threads, I'm much more of a libertarian than a Republican these days, so we probably don't have as many disagreements as you think (I think gays should be able to have civil unions with ALL the same benefits as married couples, actually I'm getting closer and closer to getting the government out of the marriage business entirely, including manipulating the tax code to favor marriage and kids). However, if a company wants to back religious causes with their own money, they have every right to do so, just like Ben and Jerry's has every right to be as liberal as they like.

I watch the Daily Show and Colbert, as well as Fox News. I can laugh (and get annoyed with) at my side, especially when it comes to how they deny proven facts like evolution.

That being said, government has grown way too much in the past 20 years and it needs to be curtailed and rolled back (although I fear this is probably impossible). I don't want to live in socialist Europe where unemployment is 25% in places like Greece and Spain. We will be Europe in 20-30 years unless something is changed.

So, I'm not voting for Obama or any Democrats this year. Romney's not much better, but he's the lesser of two evils.

And remember, I'm a public school teacher. Hardly a 1 percenter. But I've seen what federal programs like No Child Left Behind have done to my field, and what a defenseless border has done to my classroom (where illegals can't speak English and refuse to stand for the pledge, all while wearing their Mexican flag T-shirts). Education is not a federal issue (the Constitution left it to the states). They should abolish the Dept. of Education and let the states decide how to manage it.

I wish Ron Paul had won the nomination. At least he'd shake things up.
