Eli Roth Shooting Green Inferno Soon, Talks Cannibal Film

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 25, 2012

Eli Roth is preparing to shoot his next feature film, The Green Inferno, in two weeks, reports Movieline. It's his first feature film since helming Hostel: Part II in 2007 (since then he also directed the upcoming Netflix series Hemlock Grove).

According to the site, Roth will be heading to the Amazon and using up to 200 native villagers to play extras in his cannibal tale and he recruited them by holding a "screening" of Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust.

"We said, ‘Can we shoot here?’ and talked to them, and our producers said ‘We have to explain to them what a movie is. They’ve never seen a television,'" Roth told Movieline. "So we brought a generator and set up a television. I thought they were going to show them E.T. or The Wizard of Oz, but they showed them Cannibal Holocaust to see how much they could handle."

Roth said the villagers found Cannibal Holocaust "the funniest thing they had ever seen." For the full chat follow this link.

The Green Inferno follows an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle.

Peter Cornwell to Direct Stephen King Tale with Mercy

Source: ComingSoon

October 25, 2012

Although Universal Pictures won't be delivering Guillermo del Toro's now cancelled At the Mountains of Madness, the studio will be bringing to the screen Mercy, based on the short story "Gramma." Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, the short story was written by Stephen King for his 1985 short story anthology "Skeleton Crew." The Haunting in Connecticut's Peter Cornwell will direct with Matt Greenberg providing the screenplay.

Previously adapted for the small screen as an episode of "The New Twilight Zone" (written by Harlan Ellison), Mercy follows two young boys on a visit to the hospital where they learn that their dying grandmother is a witch and that her powers are fueled by a pact with the Ancient Ones.

Frances O'Connor is attached to star, though it is unclear exactly what role she will be playing.

Jason Blum, best known for the Paranormal Activity franchise, will produce alongside McG and Mary Viola.

Dark Corners Finally Moving Forward With Director of The Children

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 25, 2012

The latest project from Tom Shankland - the director of 2008's excellent killer kid flick The Children - has found its financing and is on track to begin shooting shortly after the start of 2013.

Variety reports Shankland will helm Dark Corners, a Wait Until Dark-esque thriller about "a beautiful blind college student who is tormented by a methodical killer who knows her well. She fights back by using her apparent weakness to her advantage."

On the producing end of things, we have a friendly face in Peter Block, top dog at FEARnet and the producer of Frozen. E.L. Katz and Tim Day penned the script.

Solar Pictures is overseeing the production.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Comics Return in 2013

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 25, 2012

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is returning in 2013 with a new series of Elvira comic books.

Working with author R.H. Stavis (Daniel’s Veil, Activision’s Transformers: War for Cybertron) and artist Jeff Zarnow (Godzilla, '68), the stories will focus on the Elvira’s MISS-adventures centered around a backstory about Halloween.

The collaboration was teased to audiences at the recent “Stan Lee’s Comikaze” event in September in Los Angeles.

“Unlike a typical licensing deal, we are bringing together the power of the Elvira brand, a top-notch female writer and a rising artist to develop a new line of comic books independently,” says Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. “We will then find a publishing/distribution partner that shares our vision to unleash these stories to the world.”

Drew Daywalt to Direct, Produce The Passengers Next

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 26, 2012

Our pals at the Daywalt Fear Factory is producing its debut horror feature, The Passengers. The film will tell the story of a young trucker and his wife who are terrorized by the tortured spirits attached to a load of antiques that the couple has been commissioned to haul cross country.

The film is being directed by Drew Daywalt who also wrote the screenplay. Edin Gali (Mad Men) stars with Courtney Halverson (Red Clover). Jeff Farley is co producing and has signed on to do the extensive physical FX.

"We've been waiting for this opportunity for a couple years now. And since we're being financed through private investors, my team and I have the creative control to tell an intelligent, terrifying story. We're finally getting to make the film we want to make, in the way we want to make it. The plan is simple; tell a good story that scares the hell out of everyone."

Filming will take place in Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Missouri, Utah, New Mexico and California.
