I'm sure everyone has noticed this, when you're reading a post or some news on some site and there's just a random word that's blue and underlined and you click on it and it takes you to a credit score website or something. How is this legal? who is doing it? Is it something I can disable? I don't really know anything about html codes and stuff, so is this just something i can fix in my internet browser settings? It's pretty irritating.

EDIT: Hilarious. It did it to the words credit score.

Haven't seen it here. You see it on other sites occasionally. I have no idea how to disable it...

Those are called "contextual link ads" and are powered by companies like Kontera or Infolinks. Site owners use them to monetize their contents. Each time a link is clicked, they earn a few cents. The text are hyperlinked on the fly by the ad companies' technology (mostly just using Javascript).

We don't use those on AFi.

You guys arent seeing right up there where i first typed the words "credit score" that it's higlighted in blue and underlined and when you move your cursor over it it brings up a pop up that links to a credit score thing? i just arbitrarily mentioned cs, it could be online dating or whatever else, but it's right there on my computer.

We don't use any contextual ads here on AFi. If you're seeing them, pretty good chance your browser has malware. I suggest you get Malware Bytes and do a scan of your computer:

Yeah, I'm not seeing them, either.

It's gotta be your computer, frazz.

See, who says AFI is just about toys? I had no idea that was what it was called, or that it was from malware. Thanks Vader! :D

so now theres this new thing called 'trustisms"? or something? I click on something on certain pages and instead of going to that link, it opens a new page that says something like thissite.trustisms.net. is there and anti that shingbling software out there anywhere, cause that's even more infuriating!

and a couple more web/computer questions: I guess I accidentally hit something the other day that made the type on my laptop tiiiiiny. tiny tiny. cant figure out how to undo that. Also, there are these little windows that pop up on the screen with belligerently loud audio same at the malware underlined words and trustism pages. can someone help me not throw this stupid computer in the middle of Orleans avenue?
