Is it Darth Vader? Darth Helmet? Their long lost cousin? Today we take a look back at the late 1970's Ideal toy from the S.T.A.R. Team line, the Knight of Darkness. We check out his Marvel Comic and his action figure. Is the Knight a bad mama-jamma or a best forgotten relic? You be the judge and check out the spotlight!

This doll used to be the cheaper way to find replacement body parts/limbs for a vintage Capt. Action doll. Ideal re-used the same body molds and stuck that weird round Vader-ish head on top. Unfortunately the dark color/dye they used was pretty much impossible to keep from leeching back through any flesh paint. But, if it was covered up by a costume it worked out pretty well.

What would leech through would be purple and you had to worry if it would stain a vintage Captain Action costume. I still have some of those parts and the torso would ALWAYS start darkening despite sprays, brushed-on paint, multiple coats...

Once Captain Action was relaunched by Playing Mantis it killed one of the major values of the Knight of Darkness doll to Capt. Action collectors.
