Hi, I am looking for that not glossy, but matte finish on my figures. The one that most DC Direct statues and figures have...I have seen people name some matte sealers, but does anyone really know how to do it exactly? I came here looks for answers to this exact question. I've been collecting figures for over 15 years, but only this past weekend have I painted my first ever toys. I never thought my biggest challenge would be sealing the figures. I'm using Tamiya and Testors flat acrylic paints. I bought Testors Model Masters Clear Flat Acryl, thinking I could use it for a seal, but it doesn't dry matte (it's rather glossy), and it take up a bit of paint as I apply it.

I'm kind of freaked out after reading the internet. Some people say Games Workshop's matte seal is great, but others say it's crap. Also, Testors dullcote. I've read that it has nasty fumes. Also, a lot of people say they just apply it, but then a lot of people say they put on a glossy coat to protect, then dullcote to, well, dull the glossy.

So, in other words, what's the best way to protect my precious painted figures, while also preserving the flat look? I'm super paranoid about ruining my figs right at the very end.

i used to use Testors Dullcoat all the time it is stinky while you use it but it works quite well.

Thanks. You use just dullcote, or do you apply a "regular" sealer first?

I always just used the dulcoat.

Dullcote for the win for sure!

Its not a cure all but it will give your figures a consistent suede or satin type finish.
