So I'm fascinated by the idea of the different colored corps. What do you guys suggest I read to get me up to speed with what's going on? Trade paperbacks are preferable.

Wow that was quick! Thanks. I'm thinking I will pick up a new trade every couple of weeks until I get caught up.

It's currently EASILY my favorite comic series outside of Invincible.

Ivan Reiss is really knocking it out of the park art wise and, hey, it's Geoff Johns.

The Sinestro Corps stuff and Secret Origin will hold the most bearing/info immediately applicable to Blackest Night.

Rebirth until Sinestro Corps is more depth/background on Hal being back and how he relates to the other characters in the DCU.

I cannot WAIT for Blackest Night.

Absolutely!

Get a trade (or HC!) a week and enjoy. It all builds toward the upcoming story, but you can miss one and most likely be ok going into Blackest Night.

Sit back and enjoy. I am.

Been my fav superhero book for a while. When I first heard the different colors I was "WTF!!!?" But the more I have read it the more I like the idea, they really figured out how to work it all together (as it could have gone pretty silly pretty fast if people weren't careful).

Not a good sign. Be careful, a red ring might appear near you, take over your mind, replace your blood, and turn your into a raging Red Lantern.
:D

I was wishing for a blue one. Except it now seems that the blue does not work without a green one in proximity.

Where to start?
I'd suggest --
Final Crisis : Rage of the Red Lanterns, followed by GL 36, 37, 38.
-- Gives the lowdown on the Red and the Blue lanterns.

GLCorps has been running a stories about the Yellow Lanterns. Not sure why it was called "Sins of the Star Sapphires". I'd start this one with the new arc, the one with "origins & omens" on the cover where Mongul is fighting Arkillo. GLC 34 I think.

I hope this doesn't sound repetitive, i just want to be sure i understand before i purchase a trade paperback and jump in on the Green Lantern stuff. For someone who hasn't read Green Lantern yet but wants to start, to best be prepared for The Blackest Night, would you recommend reading Secret Origin and the Rage of the Red Lanterns..... or backing up a little further and reading some of the Sinestro Corps books first?

So I've already linked to myself on the same topic once before, but I'm gonna go ahead and be "that guy". Here's a fairly in depth (and free!) recap of GL thus far, leading into Blackest Night:
