[quote]You’ve read about BRIGHTEST DAY and the titles that will be waving the banner starting in April, like THE FLASH, TITANS, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and the just announced GENERATION LOST. But that’s not all.

Starting this Spring, writer Gail Simone and artist Ed Benes will reunite to launch a new BIRDS OF PREY series. As many of you can recall, Benes first made a splash in the DCU when he paired with Simone on the original series. And guess what? He’s gotten better.

But what’s this new incarnation have in store for fans, you ask? We can’t tell you, but maybe Simone will. Here’s a snippet from her first interview about the gig:

“I am really excited and I missed those characters terribly. I miss almost every book I’ve ever written, but the Birds have a special place in my heart and brain.â€

Nice! I loved early Birds of Prey. Oracle, Black Canary and Huntress make a great team.

I felt that DC highly underestimated the book's popularity. I only wish they had continued with the original numbering since it had lasted so long. It seems like DC axed the Birds just yesterday.

Psyched for this. Canary left, then immediately joined the JLA which made no sense. Seems like no one wanted to write Green Arrow and Black Canary happily married. Glad to see this coming back under Gail's helm (the end of the prior run seemed to fall off).

I have yet to see a fanboy writer write anything that even remotely resembles a viable married couple. Of course, to me it seems that most of the writers I've met make the boys on Big Bang Theory look like mature, self assured males.

The last married couple that worked were Sue and Ralph Dibney when Elongated Man was a back up feature in Flash back in the 60's. And they were very much patterned after Nick and Nora (The Thin Man movies).

It is really a sad state of affairs that todays comics cannot survive on a regular story telling system. Now, ever few issues a crisis of some sorts has to plauge the spandex universe and death and mayhem must ensue. Reminds me of the abundance of CGI in movies in lieu of a good story, dialog and acting...

The Green Arrow Family can't seem to catch a break. Things went sour for Ollie and Dinah on their wedding day. Then bad stuff happens to Conner and now, poor Roy. I haven't seen those character shine in ages.

I'm also getting burned out on Blackest Night and hope the ending makes up for all the gore we've been witnessing. So far Nekron (and Geoff Johns) have done little to impress other than have dead characters (both good and bad) talk smack about their living counterparts before ripping their hearts out. Aside from the uneasy alliance between the various Lantern Corps, it's all becoming a bit tiresome.

One of the best stories I read this month was a Brave and the Bold team-up (issue #30) featuring Green Lantern and Doctor Fate. It nicely tried to tie up some old continuity issues regarding Kent Nelson while serving as a love letter of sorts to longtime Fate fans like myself. It's by J. Michael Straczynski and jingle Saiz. If you're feeling jaded by the stuff going on in other books, I highly recommend this philosophical "done-in-one" comic.

I just don't know why they think that large body counts makes for a better story, and why is it always a Titan

I would argue that Animal Man (Buddy Baker) and his wife have a well written, well defined relationship in comics....but that's about all I can think of.

One of the few things I enjoyed about Robinson's Cry For Justice was seeing Buddy with his family again. Ellen is the new Sue Dibny of the superhero community. I think they showed up in the Titans book as well.

Zinda is already confirmed as on the team. As are Black Canary and Huntress.
There are a few "new" and "surprise" characters coming into the mix, but it seems as though the core is intact.

It's gonna be one hell of a ride...

One bright spot in the current DCU.
I wonder if BCs marriage to GA will stay in effect after all these changes.
