The DC Blog just posted some quick snippits of data from the launch of DC: New 52 taken from a survey conducted by the Nielsen group.

http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2012/02/09 ... h-results/

How do all of you interpret this?

Was DC successful?
Does this mean anything for the future of the medium?
Were you part of the interview/survey? How did you score DCnU?

I'll share my take on the data a bit later on when I find and read through a bigger chunk (or all of) the survey data...

I think it was a success just based on sale numbers compared to Marvel but the issue is whether or not they can sustain it.

I don't think they met their goal of a complete reboot though. There are still a lot of things in place from the old DCU that had to be confusing to new or lapsed readers.

Reboot Pros:

I got classic Aquaman back and probably better than he's ever been before.

I finally got Barbara back in the Batgirl suit.

Justice League back to it's core (well, except for Cyborg).

I got Dick back as Nightwing.

Reboot Cons:

SECRET SIX IS GONE!

The Teen Titans as I knew them/loved them is also gone.

Overall, I'm a little happier in the current state of DC. Aquaman trumps Secret Six, but I'm not sure Batgirl trumps the Titans. But Justice League is better.

Not only is Secret Six gone, but they've killed Deadshot. I read a few issues of Suicide Squad and that Deadshot sucks.

Not sure that what they told in the results means anything. Fans are "galvanized." Which means they are divided. Which is the reaction that fans have had to every major change or high profile change book DC has ever done.

While I liked Crisis on IE, many fans I am sure were outraged at the change. JSA fans lost several member in Zero Hour. I was outraged by the senseless deaths in Identity Crisis, Countdown to Infinite Crisis, and Cry For Justice.

DC seems to be going back to what it was before Crisis on IE. While that is not bad, I was comfortable with the DCU as it was about 10 years ago, before Dan Didio came on board.

The current DCU feels odd.
1. I like the JLA book, but Cyborg is an odd fit. I think of the JLA as all being of a certain age. Cyborg feels too young for the group. Other than that, the team is good. Looking forward to seeing where the team goes.
2. The Teen Titans is an OK book, if you leave preconceptions of what the group is supposed to be, and are looking for the old Young Justice book (not the TV show) vibe, it works. Remember that this is that old YJ group and not the original Titans.
3. The middle generation, the original Titans seems to be represented by the red Hood and the Outlaws book, but the group is too small for me to be interested in, so I am not reading the book. No opinion on this book.
4. Stormwatch. I love this book. One thing is that I have no prior experience with these characters, so I have no preconceptions of who they are or how they should behave. It is a sci-fi soap opera with great characters, great story and great pacing. So far, they have fought the moon, yes - the moon, had a shadow agent pop in to kill their leader, and had one of their own destroy their satellite headquarters which caused it to fall out of hyperspace into normal space. Great stuff.
5. JLI. This book is a classic old style superhero team book. It just feels good.
