There's been a lot of discussion, much of it negative towards the relaunch. Let's try to quantify it. I'm a picker/chooser. I'm in for Justice League, Aquaman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and GL: New Guardians. So DC's actually ending up 2 books ahead. Try to keep commentary to a minimum. There's other threads for that.

Im out-- at least for the next six-nine months-- Maybe Ill pick stuff up after the dust has settled--but I wont buy when released- so at least they can see where my choices lie..
Its sad when the only comics Im picking up monthly is Darkwing Duck and the DC kids titles (if those are still active)-- I dont think they have addressed that yet..

I don't buy any Marvel stuff either. Their comics don't interest me.

See, I don't get that. It's super-heroes beating up on super-villains. It's pretty much the same regardless of universe. I used to be a Marvel Zombie, until Death of Superman. Then little by little, I bought more into DC. Nowadays, I don't see any significant differences between the two. They both have way too many series on popular charcters (X-men, Batman, Spider-man, Superman) and they both have way too many massive cross-overs (Fear, Flashpoint, Secret Invasion, Blackest Night). And the way creators flit back and forth between the two companies these days, the plots/ideas are more homogenous than ever. My two favorite characters are Iron Man and Aquaman. My two favorite teams are the Classic Avengers and the Wolfman-Perez Teen Titans. I guess I just don't differentiate much between universes anymore. But when I was 12, I wouldn't be caught dead reading any Dumb Comics (DC).

It's not that I don't like the characters, but I don't feel like taking the time to invest in a whole new universe beyond what I know now. Besides, I can't afford to collect a second universe of toys haha.

Thats pretty much been me for most of my life. I grew up watching superfriends and buying super powers and marvel was just the other big group of guys i knew nothing about, and there seemed to be enough paralles that i didnt NEED to get into marvel. superman & hulk, batman & iron man, spider man and firestorm, aquaman and namor, and i know that isnt necissarily the universe's counterparts, but thats how i saw em. i watched the hulk show when i was a kid, but it didnt seem like it had anything to do with an entire comic universe or company line. and every time i got interested in finding out new characters, there were always plenty in dc to dig through. i loved the justic leaguers, then when i wanted to get deeper, there was the fourth world, and when i was ready to get deeper, there was swamp thing, and then there was doom patrol, and so on and so forth. i actually didnt start reading marvel until after i saw iron man, which was not too long before the second one came out. i couldnt tell you who the x men are to this day. i know wolverine is in it, and cyclops and famke jenssen and capt picard, but thats about it. i currently read deadpool, deadpoolmax (cause i love kyle baker), invincible iron man and fear itself (cause i love matt fraction) and have been catching up on old issues of she hulk, howard the duck and punisher war journal (the fraction one). other than that, i'm pretty lost. i've never read a single issue of x men, thor, fantastic four, spider man, the incredible hulk, sub mariner, captain america or avengers. i read marvels cause i like ross' artwork a lot, but i didnt really know who most of those characters were. was kinda pissed punisher she hulk and howard the duck werent in it. but, that said, i do apreciate the depth of character and the good guy/bad guy ambiguity of almost every marvel comic i've ever read. in dc, the good guys are good guys and they folow a very tired and specific code of what it means to be "good", and, unfortunately, that makes for pretty predictable villains, too. dont get me wrong, i love dc, but it's stuff like swamp thing and plastic man and the doom patrol and phantom stranger that makes me enjoy dc so much, not superman. there are very few superman stories i've read that i actually liked, and most of them are elseworlds and out-of-cannon stuff. batman's typically only interesting to me because of his rogues, and as much as i love aquaman the character, i cant remember the last aquaman story i read that i didnt doze off during. i wanna get the death of a prince tpb and see if that grabs my apples.

I'm down to just two regular books right now: IDW's G.I. Joe (Hamaverse) and Transformers. Sad, yeah. But cutting down so drastically on $3 to $4 titles has given me a great chance to catch up on my vintage RAH collecting, so there's always a silver lining. I'll still be picking up trades, though. I ordered the latest Alpha Flight and Suicide Squad collections this month and I might get the latest volume of 70's Legion Archives. I'm also hoping that DC will complete its series of JLA/JSA Crisis crossovers someday.

Shellhead wrote: So NO Marvel at all, huh? I haven't met a one universe guy since college! Well I still pick some things up occasionally - but mostly from Half price books.. I dabble in the .25-.50 books read through them and then put them back up on ebay (like I did with the most recent She Hulk series) I pick up the occasional big crossover-- and get the Thunderbolts (but I am usually 3 or 4 months behinds)-pretty much as close as I can get to the Secret Six (well since they eliminated the Dark Avengers) , and I like the What If type stories and AOA type of stuff.. My favorite characters were Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler-- so Marvel pretty much gave me a reason to jump ship..

Still undecided.
As for Marvel vs DC, I was DC, then both, now back to DC. I would have bought back into Marvel with the Avengers relaunch, but not at 3.99 an issue.
Which again is my quandary. DC wants 3.99 for the new JLA book. I just don't want to spend that for a book on a monthly basis. I might need to go to NYCC to explain that to them.
Interested in JLA, JLI, Teen Titans, Aquaman, Static, Blue Beetle, maybe more. But without JLA, I don't see the point.
I'm also considering waiting for trades.

I'm also considering waiting for trades. Isn't that just for the first issue? After that I think 3.99 is the print + digital edition and the print only is 2.99. I might be wrong though.

I voted I'm all in.
After listening to all the podcasts from SDCC, hearing all the chatter, and settling myself down enough, I'm all in.
... with a caveat.
I buy everything in trade format only. It just reads better to me. So, I'll get the 1st batch of 52 trades, after that , I'll probably trim my purchases down to those that I really enjoy and still feel connected to.

That's a heck of a commitment. $16 x 52 = $832. With tax, you're talking about $900. Now I'm sure you'll probably get some of them at discounted prices, but still . . . I'll stick with my five or so titles.

Yeah, I have a very long history with my local store. His policy is 10% off any purchase over $10 and 20% for orders over $20 (paid in cash, 15% if cc).
I'm going in roughly ever other week right now and spending between $150-$250 each visit. Been that way for quite some time now.
Surprisingly, I'm spending less per month buying only trades than I was when I was buying individual issues.

You sir, are a true comic fan. Either that, are you are simply quite insane! I usually go weekly to my LCS, and a typical week will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-$40. Once every couple of months I'll be at the $50-$75 mark if something additional comes in through Diamond. And a couple times a year, I'll break $100. I know I'm not in the top five of subscribers at my store, but I am in the top ten. Your comic book guy must LOVE seeing you walk in.
