DC Comics has announced it will publish #0 issues for its New 52 titles in September, revealing origins and backstories, and will also launch four new titles.

Some issues will tell the origins of a character or a team, or in some case where an origin has already been told, they will fill in the blanks in terms of questions readers may have about the New 52 DC Universe," said editor-in-chief Bob Harras. "Each of these issues promises to reveal something surprising."

The four new series will launch with #0 issues. They are, with descriptions from DC:

TALON

Written by Scott Snyder and James tynion IV, art by Guillem March.

Meet Calvin Rose, the only Talon to ever escape the grasp of the Court of Owls. This former assassin of the Court is trying to live a normal life ... but that's impossible when he's being hunted by his former masters!

SWORD OF SORCERY

Written by Christy Marx, art by Aaron Lopresti.

Featuring the return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother and resents it. She's about to learn it's all been necessary when she discovers she's the lost princess of Gemworld -- and she's being hunted by her murderous aunt. With a back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by jingle Saiz, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior Beowulf is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.

THE PHANTOM STRANGER

Written by Dan DiDio, art by Brent Anderson.

Spinning out of his recent appearances in Justice League and DC's Free Comic Book Day story, learn more about the true origin of The Phantom Stranger and his connection to the mysterious Pandora.

TEAM SEVEN

Written by Justin Jordan, art by jingle Merino.

Set in the early days of DC Comics - The New 52, threads of the entire DC Universe collide. As Superman emerges, so does the world's counter measures against him and his kind. Team 7 is comprised of Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash, Slade Wilson -- and their story will change everything you know about DC Comics - The New 52.

The four new series will follow with issue #1s next month and other series will resume their numbering.

Sigh. More Wildstorm crap. Do they not ever once stop and think about the fact that most of the Wildstorm titles have failed not once, but multiple times?

Although I will say the Gemworld/Amethyst series sounds intriguing.

I'm a sucker for Phantom Stranger and perhaps he could be our salvation...

Isn't Phantom Stranger condemned to a life of observing the world and not interacting with it. To change that about him changes the core of the character.

He can't be narrator if he is participant.

I know they've had a Phantom Stranger series in the past, and he hasn't always been as strictly "hands off" but I have so little faith in what DC is aiming to do lately I just can't see this title as a good thing.

I agree the Amethyst title is the one I look forward to the most.

I can't help think of the introduction of Azrael to the DCU way back when and how it is seemingly being played out all over again with Talon. With that in mind, how long will it be before the first major cataclysm in the Bat-books that induces Talon to pick up the Cowl?

I was under the impression from what I had read that Jim Lee had let the properties "rest" for a bit knowing that this new 52 event was coming.

Also, I have said it but it bears repeating. IMO, Stormwatch is THE single BEST comic DC produced during the 1st 6 months of new 52. The book has a new writer with #9, so I'm not sure how it will go from here, but definitely my favorite so far.

Team Seven is the book I am most interested in out of this group.

Talon looks too much like Owlman of the prior Outsiders run. Or maybe that is the point.

I won't read anything Didio writes. Period. He decided Ted Kord should be killed off. He publicly stated that Dick Grayson should die. He is writing the end of JLI. I will not buy something he writes.

No interest in any of these. The only books I plan on reading from this point on are...

Aquaman
Batgirl
Batman
Batman and Robin
Flash
Green Lantern
Justice League
Red Lanterns
Worlds Finest

At least until they decide to make them all gay or black or lose their powers or something.

And imo, Stormwatch wasn't worth reading even when I got the issues for free.

I didn't care for Team 7 when it was Image/ Wildstorm... I don't see why I'd like it now. If I wanted to read Image/ Wildstorm comics I'd have bought them... I bought and read DC because... it wasn't Image.

I'll pick up some of the #0 issues, but I'm not interested in any of the new titles.

Superfriend, Stormwatch is the exception that proves the rule. Always has been. It's always been one of my favorite titles. No matter what the cast. I even liked it when it became the Authority. Heck, I loved it when it was Team Achilles. Which is why I might give Team 7 a try. But the rest of the Wildstorm stuff? Blech.

Yep, like I said that may be the one of the four I actually pick up. And the latest solicits confirm that Captain Atom, Resurrection Man and Voodoo are joining JLI in the cancellation column.

Shame, Captain Atom was giving off that Valiant Solar Man of the Atom feel...

as much as the DCnU just isn't for me, I will give them credit that they are recognizing and replacing titles when and where needed very efficiently.

Clearly they have "backup" material waiting in the wings to be slotted and are continuing to alter the make up of the "New 52 Universe" until they get to a combination that truly does offer something for everyone.

It's nice to see that level of commitment even if I personally think it is failing to find a way to connect with me and many older fans.
