Yeah, that one is honestly kind of shocking. As other magazines came and went, they kept plugging along.

Meh.

Never bought it.

About every five years or so I get an Overstreet Price Guide and call it a day.

Still miss Toyfare, though.

Robert M Overstreet... now that's a joke... Price guides in general have done more damage to the business side of this hobby than good.

What's wrong with Overstreet? I've found them to be pretty decent over the years, especially when it comes to Silver Age books.

Overstreet fails to explain that the prices within their guide are... estimations. Just because your Silver Age book books out at 100.00 doesn't quite mean it's worth 100.00. Sure it's a wonderful tool for people who need it but Robbie has built up the concept that what is printed in the guide is etched in stone and never once in all of Overstreet's ridiculous over inflated ego articles and reports in the beginning of their guides do they once... stop and explain the difference between Value and Worth.

The same can be said about new books which are fetching a decent amount on collector markets, Overstreet never once addresses this, so where you have books that are listed at cover and maybe a tad below... people just don't understand geography, time and demand play a factor in many things.

I miss Wizard, as terrible as they were with back issue prices, they were all about what was trending. But just as bad as far as explaining exactly how to use the magazine.

It's like handing a loaded gun to a child and having him aim it at your head...

Besides the man's a colossal cock anyway or was I don't even know if he's kicked it yet? He was looking pretty ragged back in 2010.

Though to be fair -- thats no difference than any other price guide out there-- no matter who produces or produced it--

TOmarts, Beckett, Non Sport Update, any of those collectors books that are published every few years-- very rarely do they distinguish between value and worth as well-- its why every dealer always has those signs up with 50% below book price at card and toy shows..

Toyfare was usually just as bad in my opinon on their price guide.

I never read past the previews and articles in Toyfare, sometimes I never even realized there was a guide in there.

Bobbie M gets my hatred because he started it, he could have easily set the bar for the distinguishing between both but alas, the ass did not. Not once and I have almost every Overstreet guide from 1985 and up. Anyone remember when they were printed really really really frigging small? All other guides strive to be Overstreet... unless you were Hero Magazine and you tried to be Wizard.

I subscribed to Wizard for the better part of a decade and to Toyfare until they cancelled it. I never used the guides for either of them, but I did enjoy the articles and previews.

I wonder how long it'll be before ALL magazines kick the bucket? Will there be any left by 2020?

Hero used to have some decent Promo Trading Cards in them-- and I think they started the multiple covers for those types of magazines--- (I remember a Bane vs. Batman one) that Wizard then followed after them.

Wizard's first alternate cover was issue 7... it was an X-O cover and then a cover with a Marvel character

I first subscribed to CBG in 1988. I found some great deals on their classifieds and helped out my fellow collectors on occasion. The columns and cartoons were the best out there for my tastes until Wizard came out in 1991 and began to kill all the other fanzines such as Amazing Heroes.

CBG's demise isn't surprising but a milestone, nonetheless.
