How does this work exactly?
I have never dealt with foreign toy suppliers before, but a domestic source for a figure I want (Revoltech Rei from Neon Genesis) is out of stock and the only current people selling it for a reasonable amount are out of Japan.
As I read up on shipping, I noticed the "buyer is responsible for all customs/import fees." So, I don't want to buy a $50 figure, ship it for $10, and then end up with like $30 of fees.
So how does it work? Is it based on a percent of the value? Is there a level at which it "flies under the radar?" Are there forms to be filled out?
I've heard many horror stories about customs from foreign board members.
So, any useful info?

I've imported a lot of things from Japan and never paid an import fee. I don't know if it's different in other states but I think it's our foreign friends outside the US that have most of the issues.

Ditto, never had to pay import fees ever over many decades of ordering thing directly from Japan and Europe among other places.

Yup--- our postal service makes it all up on the front end by charging more to ship out and protects from the importing fees into the US.. (although I have had a few items hung up in customs for an extended period of time)- but I have never been charged anything-- and that includes from 5.00 figures to 350.00 statues from both ebay sellers and direct shippers in Japan.
