Mark Ruffalo: There Will Never Be a HULK Solo Movie, Throws Shade at Universal

By Newsarama Staff July 15, 2017 10:46am ET

In a video interview with Variety immediately following Disney's Live Action panel at D23 Saturday that included Marvel Studios, Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo, tag-teaming with War Machine actor Don Cheadle, looks like he was having some tongue-in-cheek fun at Universal Studios' expense when seemingly asked if there will ever be a Hulk solo movie starring him.

"I wanna make just one thing perfectly clear today, a standalone Hulk movie will never happen," he replies to a reporter with a smile.

When asked why, he adds, ".... for some reason they don't know how to play well with Marvel," and "... because they don't want to make money," referring to Universal, who holds the rights to a Hulk standalone film.

Check out the short interview and judge for yourself how serious the actor is being.

TOM HOLLAND Wants TOBEY MAGUIRE Back In SPIDER-MAN Franchise - In Surprising Role

By Chris Arrant, Editor July 17, 2017 06:50am ET

Tom Holland is the third actor to play a live-action Spider-Man in movies, and he's very conscious of those who came before him - and actually wants the original, Tobey Maguire, to join him in the Spider-Man: Homecoming franchise - in a very surprising role.

"I kind of want Tobey Maguire to play Uncle Ben," Holland told BBC Radio 1. "I think that would be super funny."

Maguire, now 42, recently voiced a role in the animated movie Boss Baby.

Holland goes on to say that he met Maguire recently at a screening, but didrn't bring up any discussions about the role.

"I met Tobey recently in L.A. for screening of Baby Driver," said Holland. "And he sat like right in front of me and didn't see me."

A sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for July 5, 2019.

Ron Howard Shares Chewbacca’s Close Up in Han Solo Set Photo

SuperHeroHype

Jul 17, 2017

As Ron Howard chugs along in completing the upcoming Han Solo movie, the director has taken to sharing some cryptic teasers from the set which have previously shown the likes of the set’s bottled water sitting on the floor, as well as costumes. Now, Howard has shared an interesting photo featuring Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Upon further inspection of the photo, however, the shot itself can be seen and it certainly appears like two Wookiees are embracing.

Will Chewbacca finally get a love interest in the upcoming movie or will one of his family members from the never-spoken-about Star Wars Holiday Special be making an appearance? Check out the full image, and a close up of the Wookiees themselves, below!

Following the departure of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Howard has stepped into to complete filming of the upcoming “Star Wars story.” The untitled Han Solo film is set to feature Hail, Caesar‘s Alden Ehrenreich as Han, with Atlanta‘s Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and The Force Awakens‘ Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Woody Harrelson is attached to play Han’s mentor, a man by the name of Beckett, while Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke, Westworld‘s Thandie Newton, The Wire‘s Michael K. Williams and Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge are set for undisclosed roles.

The Untitled Han Solo movie will open in theaters on May 25, 2018.

Star Trek: Discovery Comic-Con Panel Details, Artwork and More

SuperHeroHype

Jul 17, 2017

Image

CBS Television Studios and CBS All Access invite Star Trek fans from around the world to join them in a celebration of over 50 years of Star Trek and the upcoming premiere of Star Trek: Discovery with a line-up of panels, events, activations and merchandise exclusives July 20-23 at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif. Check out the Star Trek: Discovery Comic-Con panel details and more below!

Over 50 years ago, the world was first introduced to what would quickly become a cultural phenomenon. It was a television series that inspired developments in science and technology, broke social barriers, and transported viewers around the globe to new adventures and uncharted frontiers. This fall, Star Trek: Discovery follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, while learning that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself.

Cast members scheduled to appear include Sonequa Martin-Green, Jason Isaacs, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, and James Frain alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Heather Kadin and Akiva Goldsman. The panel will be moderated by series guest star Rainn Wilson, who will appear as “Harry Mudd,” the charismatic conman and intergalactic criminal that was first introduced in the original Star Trek television series. The newest edition of the Star Trek franchise will premiere in the U.S. on CBS All Access Sunday, Sept. 24, following a broadcast premiere on the CBS Television Network. Saturday, July 22nd; Ballroom 20, 2:30PM.

CBS is creating a fully immersive Star Trek: Discovery experience at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery (363 Fifth Avenue, San Diego); Comic-Con badges are not mandatory for entry. The exhibit, running Thursday, July 20 through Sunday, July 23, will feature the debut of – and a photo opportunity with – the U.S.S. Discovery Captain’s Chair and will show case additional props, costumes, sketches and more from Star Trek: Discovery. One thousand fans each day will receive complimentary, limited edition Star Trek: Discovery posters and the location will also house an official Star Trek Shop with items exclusive to Comic-Con.

From Thursday, July 20 through Sunday, July 23, CBS will offer free “intergalactic” rides throughout the Gaslamp District in pedicabs inspired by the design of the U.S.S. Discovery’s Captain’s Chair. The pedicabs will feature the series’ chair’s distinctive stitched black seats as well as video monitors built into its armrests, which in this case will screen trailers for the highly anticipated new show. As an added touch, each vehicle will display an illuminated U.S.S. Discovery delta shield on the back.

On Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22, as part of the #TrekDiscovery Challenge throughout San Diego, fans will encounter an array of authentically costumed Trek ambassadors, representing crews from the first five “Star Trek” television series (The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise). Fans who post photos of themselves with ambassadors from each of the five series’ crews – and in the Star Trek: Discovery Captain’s Chair at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery – and who tag all six photos with the #TrekDiscovery challenge hashtag on Twitter or Instagram, will be eligible to win a Roku streaming stick and a subscription to CBS All Access. Prizes will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans can find clues regarding the location of the #TrekDiscovery crews by following @StarTrek on Twitter and Instagram.

Star Trek: Discovery will follow the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV. Star Trek: Discovery is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.

IT Director Andy Muschietti Tapped to Helm Robotech

SuperHeroHype

Jul 17, 2017

Image

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Sony Pictures has set their sights on Mama and IT director Andy Muschietti to develop and direct the long-gestating adaptation of the anime Robotech. Muschietti’s producing partner (and sister) Barbara Muschietti will produce the film alongside Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton.

Robotech debuted in the 1980s from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Productions. A peculiar science fiction amalgamation, the show re-edited and re-wrote the dialogue of three Japanese anime series (The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA) to give the producers enough episodes to air as a daily syndicated series.

A sprawling sci-fi epic, Robotech takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship’s energy source known as “protoculture,” and the planet’s survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.

Nunnari and Canton previously announced they would “bring their modern sensibility to the tentpole, reintroducing today’s audiences to the Robotech universe.” The film has had a number of filmmakers and writers attached previously, including James Wan (Furious 7, Aquaman), Nic Mathieu, and Akiva Goldsman.

WB Release Schedule Adds Two Mystery DC Comics Films

SuperHeroHype

Jul 17, 2017

Image

Warner Bros. Pictures today updated their release calendar, revealing that two different DC Comics movies are now set for 2020. The first will hit on Valentine’s Day, February 14, while the other is set for June 5, 2020. Other changes to the WB release schedule see an untitled animated film set for June 1, 2018 and an untitled event film slated for December 13, 2019.

As for the specific titles of the new DC Comics films, only time will tell which heroes will be on the big screen in 2020. There are quite a few DC Comics films in development, but only two have confirmed release dates: Justice League will hit the big screen this November 17 with James Wan’s Aquaman on track for December 21, 2018.

While 2019 placeholder dates have been set by in the past, a lot has changed. Among the projects in various stages of development at the studio are Matt Reeves‘ Batman film, a Joss Whedon Batgirl movie, David Ayer‘s Gotham Sirens, sequels to Wonder Woman and Man of Steel and lots more. Given the same panel’s major announcements in the past, there’s a very good chance that we’ll have a better understanding of exactly what’s next for the DC Universe after this week’s Comic-Con panel.

Music artists Tyga and C.J. Wallace have joined the cast of MTV‘s Scream Season 3 as series regulars. The new season is slated to premiere in March 2018 as a three-night event on MTV.

The season, which will be moving production from New Orleans to Atlanta, features an entirely new cast, series location and premise that revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future – and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.

Tyga is set to play the role of Jamal, Deion’s older step-brother. Though they share blood, their worldviews couldn’t be more different. Jamal is a hustler by nature, willing to work any angle to make ends meet for those he considers family. But when Jamal’s ambitions don’t line up with Deion’s, it forces them to decide exactly how they fit into each other’s lives.

C.J. Wallace will take on the role of Amir, a good kid whose strict parents expect him to keep clean during high school, stay away from girls and ultimately find his place within the family business. But when events make him the unexpected target of a killer, Amir finds himself in over his head and his world view challenged.

Queen Latifah, Shakim Conpere and Yaneley Arty will serve as executive producers on Scream Season 3 for Flavor Unit Entertainment (Life Support, Dear Mama). Brett Matthews (Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) has joined as showrunner and executive producer, while Harvey and Bob Weinstein will continue to serve as executive producers under the Dimension TV umbrella. NIGHTWING Will be 'Grueling' for the Actor Who Plays DICK GRAYSON

By George Marston, Newsarama Contributor July 17, 2017 12:21pm ET

Image

Nightwing director Chris McKay has shared his thoughts on the character of Dick Grayson on Twitter after confessing to planning a Nightwing-related tattoo.

"The story of Dick Grayson, becoming Robin, then becoming Nightwing played out for us, the audience, in the comics in real time," McKay explained. "It wasn't a flashback. We experienced it. So all of Robin/Nightwings successes and failures we were along for the ride. And people that underestimated Robin or dismissed him perhaps had their opinions changed as we watched him "grow up" right in front of us. His relationships, his conflicts with Batman et al felt real to me because he was the window character with which we experienced Gotham city."

It's unclear whether Grayson's journey from Robin to Nightwing will factor into the Nightwing film, however McKay does have an idea of the type of actor he's seeking to take on the role - and it's going to require intense physicality.

"He has [to love Nightwing as much as I do]. It has to be full commitment," said McKay. "Every day. It is going to be grueling from a martial arts, gymnastics and stunt perspective."

No release date for Nightwing has been announced.
