You have to love a good mystery. For the last two weeks or so, Dark Horse Comics has been hitting us with teaser images for titles that will be announced at Comic-Con this week. One graphic caught our eye...the one you see below.
My guess is that Dark Horse is going to begin adapting Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's novels within "The Strain" trilogy. Books one and two are currently available, book three is on the way. Again, that's just my guess. We'll find out Friday.
Grave Encounters didn't do much for me. But I can see there being an audience for this "ghost hunters meet real supernatural nasties" (or "ghost hunters enter the House on Haunted Hill"). The thriller is playing in New York and Los Angeles on August 19 with an August 25 VOD debut to follow. Our brothers at Crave scored the official one-sheet. Dig on it below.
You can read our interview with the directors of the film, The Vicious Brothers, right here.
Scribe coming through in the clutch for WB and Co.

Man of Steel, the impending revision of the Superman film franchise that hopes to catapult the man who's faster than a speeding bullet up to the superstar status of his DC brethren Batman, has received another setback in the form of David Goyer being unable to make a few rewrites to his script. The fastest solution lies in the hands of writer Kurt Johnstad.
Moviehole has the exclusive on these developments, citing that Goyer has become entangled in the new upcoming Godzilla project, and thus Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder had to take an alternative path to getting the thing rewritten in places. Their tipster claims that Johnstad was chosen by a fairly easy decision, given his instrumental work with Snyder in the past on 300, the mega-hit that put Snyder on the map.

The Mentalist babe reportedly cast as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

The Avengers has reportedly added another TV babe to its ranks in addition to Cobie Smulders.
The Daily Blam claims that The Mentalist's Amanda Righetti has been cast in an unspecified role in the Joss Whedon-directed film. However, they also say she makes her appearance as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in Captain America: The First Avenger, but our resident IGN staffer who saw the film says he doesn't recall her popping up in it.
According to the site, "the current buzz has her pegged as either Carol Danvers -- also known to comic fans as the superpowered heroine Ms. Marvel -- or Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter who is played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America and acts as Steve Rogers' WWII partner and love interest."
In addition to The Mentalist, Righetti's credits include Friday the 13th, Role Models, The O.C., North Shore, Reunion and Return to House on Haunted Hill.
It might seem a little late to the party to begin tackling a 300 spin-off, but Warner Bros. is banking on the timing being just right for a follow-up to the 2006 blockbuster.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have chosen a director for the upcoming project, previously known as Xerses but now titled 300: Battle of Artemisia. The man they have tapped is Israeli-born director Noam Murro, who directed 2008's Short People and is linked to the fifth installment of the Die Hard series.
His main competition in the race was Jaume Collet-Serra, the man at the helm of the Liam Neeson thriller Unknown. Collet-Serra was just picked to direct the big screen adaptation of the hit anime Akira, while Murro looks to receive an official offer this week for the 300 spin-off.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers premiered in fall 1990, airing domestically and internationally in syndication and on cable networks TBS and TNT. Six full seasons of the series were produced in the original run of the series, featuring the voice talents of multiple guest celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg (Gaia), Meg Ryan (Dr. Blight), Martin Sheen (Sly Sludge), Edward Asner (Hoggish Greedly), James Coburn (Looten Plunder), Dean Stockwell (Duke Nukem) and Sting (Zarm). With the pilot currently in production in Chicago, Titus Welliver has joined the cast of FX's upcoming series "Powers" in the role of Triphammer, says a story at AOL TV.
The series, based on the comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, deals with a pair of detectives that investigate superhero-related homicides. Jason Patric will play Detective Christian Walker with Lucy Punch starring as Detective Deena Pilgrim. The supporting cast is rounded out with Charles Dutton as their captain and Carly Foulkes as the superhero, Retro Girl.
Best known for his role as the Man in Black on "LOST," Welliver's "Powers" character is that of Harley Cohen, a wealthy inventor who, himself, fights crime in a mechanical suit under the Triphammer identity. Likely to be a recurring character, Triphammer has close personal ties to the mysterious past of Walker and Retro Girl.
"Powers" orginally launched as a comic book in 2004 from Image Comics and is currently published by Marvel's Icon imprint.
As first revealed earlier this month, set construction is currently underway for Zack Snyder's soon-to-shoot Superman reboot, Man of Steel. Now, thanks to reader 'Dr. P.', we've got a closer look some of the apparently "battle-damaged" scenery going up in Plano, Illinois.
Possibly doubling for Clark Kent's hometown of Smallville, the rural architecture has been constructed with what appears to be built-in damage, indicating that we could see a small-town show of force somewhere in the story.
Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond and Christopher Meloni , Man of Steel is currently targeted for release in December 2012.
