'Twilight' Fan Killed at San Diego Comic-Con

A 53-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car Tuesday in front of the San Diego Convention Center.

The unidentified Comic-Con-goer had been camping in front of the convention center since Sunday to score a seat at the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 panel and was reportedly in a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Sgt. Ron Glass told the San Diego Union-Tribune the victim tried to run across Harbor toward the convention center against the light at about 9:20am.

The 67-year-old driver of a Subaru Outback did not see the woman in time, and officials say the victim attempted to stop her own momentum but instead tripped into the vehicle.

Unconscious and bleeding profusely from her head, the woman was rushed to a hospital where she later died.

Comic-Con fans explained why the woman, who was with a group, was in such a hurry to return to the convention center. The staff was apparently about to switch the line, and the dedicated fan wanted nothing more than to keep her hard-earned place.
