So I'm attending SDCC for the first time this year- my first time ever flying to a show- and I'm wondering how all you veterans recommend getting my loot home. It seems like I have two options: pack it, which means bringing a larger suitcase and risking loosing the luggage; or ship it, which means the added cost of shipping, not to mention the struggle to find a post office. What do you guys usually do? Anyone know if there's a shipping service at the Con?

I'm very interested to hear what others have to say as well, since I am debating to ship or pack my San Diego loot. This will be my first trip and I plan on taking some shipping supplies in my extra suitcase.

The statistics as of May 2007 are that 6 in 1,000 pieces of luggage are lost, delayed, damaged or stolen when checked in at an airport. Only .6%

Also, there is a US Post Office and UPS Store within 1/2 mile of the San Diego Convention Center. I'm not sure of what shipping services, if any, are available at the Con, but it would be nice to know.

Well, what I had done before was to bring an extra expandable suitcase. In no time, I filled it up and had no issues at the airport. You may want to but some extra bubble-wrap once in San Diego if you care much about how the packaging will end up once you get home.

I brought all my clothes and stuff in a suitcase within a bigger suitcase, and packed the extra bag with loot and checked it on the flight back. Worked pretty well.

There is also a UPS shipping office onsite in the lobby at SDCC but the lines can get pretty long so plan ahead.

There's a UPS store at the west end of the Convention Center in front of Hall A.

There's also a FedEx/Kinkos down at the east end in front of Hall H, I believe.

(Hope that helps!)

While it's true that tehre is a UPS place on site... The line is UNREAL the later in the con it gets. And the last day all of the companies and dealers are ALSO trying to mail their stuff home.

If you are going to do that I'd recomend doing it early (and as often as needed!)

I'm taking a carry-on rolly bag, and packing in it a folded up larger soft-sided bag that I can fill and then check on the flight back.

I think I'll go with my original plan, packing a smaller bag in a suitcase, which most of you also seem to do. Thanks for all the advise.

Ship it. You never know when you're goinna run across an over-zealous customs agent. I think Vader was the one that posted the pics of the customs-shredded Grundy someone was taking on a plane last year. Never know what that sound and light device in the Man-Bat box might cause them to do...
