Turns out there's a dark side to the geeks.
At last week's San Diego Comic-Con, where nearly every studio put on a major presentation to woo an estimated crowd of more than 100,000 fanboys, pirated DVDs for sale were as rampant as celebrity panels.

MPAA investigators were on hand to investigate rumors that bootleg discs have become a regular occurrence at Comic-Con. Locating several comicbook booths also selling illegally made movies, org contacted the San Diego Police Dept. Vendors Chet and Gregory Szydlowski were arrested on felony charges that carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Bootleg tapes and discs have a long history at comicbook and sci-fi conventions, where fans often look for copies of old cartoons and foreign productions that aren't sold legitimately in the U.S.

But mixed in with obscure titles at Comic-Con were numerous pirated movies that are or shortly will be available.

A scan of three booths selling bootleg discs at Comic-Con revealed titles including "Star Wars," "Star Trek: Voyager," "Veronica Mars" and the new "Battlestar Galactica."

A rep for Comic-Con didn't return calls for comment.

But with big studio presentations supporting growth of the confab over the past few years, it's a sure bet that Comic-Con execs are going to feel the heat to keep vendors selling back issues of "Batman" rather than bootlegs of "Batman Begins."

Good. Bootleggers are a scum notch below scalpers.

Pretty dumb to be selling 'em at a Con even though i'm sure the profit was too tempting for the greedy bastiches to pass up.

Got to see two such people escorted through the exhibit room in handcuffs at this year's WizWorld: Philly... Still didn't deter other vendors selling illegal bootlegs through the rest of the weekend... go figure...

I love it! Just imagine their first conversation upon enterning the prison.

"What're you in for?"

"I was busted at the San Diego Comic Con for selling bootleg copies of Veronica Mars."

Looks like C-Block's gonna have a new toy.

Hope the money these idiots might have made is worth the trouble.

Julius let me give you a little story lol. It happened in our aisle! I came in and began to set up and uncover the booth and I heard Dr. Who theme music playing and I was like what the where is that coming from. Turns out the guy in the corner booth in our small aisle was playing the bootleg versions of the Dr. who show lol. The guys next to us a gaming company who are originally from the UK called their freinds one of the writers for the Dr. Who show. This is after the day before the guy had tapes confiscated from another company and polic. So he got scared when they said the Dr. Who reps were on their way down with cops again and lawyers and they packed up and ran. Moral is if you are are bootlegging at Comic Con you should know someone knows someone who has to do with the property being bootlegged or that company is actually at comic con. Downside is we didn't grab the empty booth fast enough and a gaming company got upgraded to a nice corner =(. We will have to watch out next time and hope we can snag the space lol.
