Sorry, ran out of room in the subject line. My question for JLU collectors (not DCUC collectors) is this:
Am I alone in wishing they would make more DCU characters for the JLU line who didn't necessarily appear in the cartoon? Red Hood is the first example, but I'd love to see more recognizable heroes and villains.
However, despite enjoying JLU and much of BTAS/TNBA, I'm not a huge fan of "new" or redesigned characters from the various cartoon series being made as part of this line. That means Bruce Timm-specific characters, mostly: Batman Beyond and that futuristic Justice League, generic satellite staff members, those Joker gang members (seriously, I roll my eyes every time people scream for a fat clown throwaway character named "Chucko" to be made as a toy), and jobber villains like Atomic Skull, who nobody would care about if he didn't have a minor role on the show, and that creepy version of Toyman.
Heck, I skipped all the Justice Lords for this very reason, although I understand they were mostly easy repaints, which is why Mattel pushed them. (I did buy Justice Lord Flash, but only to use him as Zoom, an actual important character from the comics.)
I'd rather see more actual DCU heroes and villains, however obscure -- guys like Sand, Vigilante, and Deadshot were welcome additions to the line (despite their smaller roles on the cartoon), and I'd love to get the Crimson Avenger, Question, Captains Atom and Marvel and Boomerang and Cold, Catman, and especially Blue Beetle. The Timm-created characters just don't do a thing for me, and if Mattel makes any more of them, I can guarantee there will be some extras on the pegs for the rest of you.

BBV Lou,
I feel your pain and frustration. I would LOVE to have Mattel make the entire DC Universe in animated JLU style. But that said, I understand how you feel about the choice in characters produced.
I think a lot of us - me included - talk about obscure characters in a "perfect world" scenario where Mattel actually make everything. Once you have all the heroes and bad guys you can get around to making space station crews and Amanda Waller figures!
I just hope that the line continues into 2009...

I would really like the show characters to be made before anything else. Well, I mean the show characters that actually were important in the sense of the episodes. I'd rather have a DCAU Blue Beetle before a JLU Lady Lunar, but in an ideal world I'd rather have them both, and preferably in a three-pack with Fastball or Plastic Man.
Peace,
Chip

I'm on the same page with you BBVL. But when I said something I was told to collect DCUC.

I think DCUC are great figures, but I'm such a weirdo that none of the character choices in the first three waves are must-haves for me. I'm skipping them all, and hoping the Four Horsemen come out with some of my favorites later on. Again, more for everyone else!

I'm all for characters on the show before DCU guys, but we're pretty much out of JLU guys from the show.. So...
There aren't many "serious" people asking for JLU satelite repairmen. I can't imagine anyone really wants those.
Army builder guys like manhunters is okay.
But I do see some civilian characters needed. Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen... These are characters we could DEFINITELY use before we start digging up crusty DCU guys who never made the cartoon.

I'd love to see characters that appeared in the JLU comic, like Phantom Stranger, Firestorm, Power Girl, Guy Gardner. I'd almost rather have those than the remaining cartoon characters.

I don't think it has to be mutually exclusive. Why not have a Timm styled DCU character like Firestorm that was never on the show as well as a Kalibak that was on the show? A Timm styled Blue Beetle as well as a Chucko figure?
With the new license there's no reason not to put the "unlimited" back into JLU.
Also, all new 3-pack waves have to be 2 to a case!

I totally agree with this statement, although I'd happily accept a "Galatea" since her look was based on Power Girl anyway!

I'm personally quite the other way around. I wouldnt boycott the line expanding beyond the shows, but I think I would actually prefer they didnt. If they did, I would have a struggle whether or not to keep buying. I certainly hope they continue with, and use up show accurate characters and versions before they delve into non. And assuming they did, I would prefer JLU comic / Timm-verse inspired designs of those characters before DCU / modern comic versions in this animated style and scale.
I wouldnt object to a DCU / Comic based toyline within a smaller scale and offering similar availability and afordability like JLU. I would just prefer they not mix since to me they are not the same.
Im not clammoring for a JLU Ble Beetle and I would prefer a Chucko before Firestorm and I would want a JLU/Timm inspired version of such a Firstorm before one based on the DCU current Comic design.

Like Superfly I'd prefer them to stick to characters that appeared in the JLU/DCAU comics if they were never on any of the Timm-verse shows...

I almost always prefer the classic version of a character, for instance I'd prefer the classic Firestorm over current, the Ted Kord Blue Beetle over current, and so on...
I like the character made in the JLU style because it's a style that works for what I like to collect, I don't like uber articulated figures. So for selfish reasons I'd prefer this line be expanded to it's fullest, with characters from the show and characters not on the show. I'd like to see a Firestorm just as much as a Kalibak, or a Mary Marvel just as much as a Tala. I don't really prefer one over the other, I'm happy to get new characters either way, I just still don't understand restricting it to the cartoon... I say for the future 3 packs do one of each, one remaining from the show and one not featured...
I've gotten some customs here and there so far, some from the show, some not, and they are all great together (capt. marvel jr, blue beetle, vandal savage, shadow thief)... Provided the show didn't get PREMATURELY cancelled, we probably would have seen everyone at some point anyway. Right?
On a different note, I mix in with my display some villains from the Batman animated... Two Face, Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, and a friend of mine that collects wouldn't put them together because they are technically not part of JLU, but to some people on here, it's the animated universe as a whole, so I think everyone has a different opinion on this...

That's my stand - and I put a few wants in my signature

Despite the fact that I love the JLU figures I think I've seen maybe 6 or 7 episodes of JLU, so the size of someone's role on the show really makes no difference to me.
I know most of the characters from comics and even then I haven't read a new comic in years. They are just great looking figures.

Man, I never thought I'd have to say it, but your opinion is null and void. Absolutely blasphemous! How DARE you say such a thing???
Peace,
