I hope they consider doing the following:
Make a classic Robin figure, but do a head variant and give us one that's Dick Grayson and one thats Jason Todd.
The Dick Grayson head could have a cool confident smile, and the Jason Todd head could have an angrier face. Give them different hair styles too and that would be a great way of getting two characters that are in the same costume and wouldn't be worth releasing seperatley.
You could also lighten or darken the paint apps a bit between the two just to show a bit more of a difference.
What do you guys think?

Sounds good to me!
Didn't Tim wear that costume in his first outing as Robin?...

Yeah he did, he went with Alfred to free batman and Nightwing when they were trapped underneath a collapsed building after they had fought with Two-Face (I think?)

I'd be pleased with just one "classic" Robin. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we at least get one.
I think that the distinction between Dick and Jason wouldn't mean much to moms and kids nowadays; only to us die-hards. How many people know Batman and Robin from the 60's series or the old serials, and only know Robin as Dick Grayson? I'd say most. Does Mattel really care that much?
Perhaps they can re-paint this hoped-for classic Robin into a bloody pulp and put him in a two-pack with the Joker gripping a tire iron. That'd be Jay in his most notable appearance. A Comic Con exclusive perhaps.

I think that's a good idea for a variant--only the collectors would care, which is perfect for the way the line's been set up so far. I wouldn't chase the Jason Todd variant myself, but I know a lot of people would.

That would be a great idea! He would make a good counterpart to a 1980s Two Face, as well.

its a great idea, and i agree that only us die-hards know the difference. i was watching something about the history of comics on history channel or A&E (they are within the same company), and dennis o'neil said he went into a restaurant or a bar (i dont remember which!), and someone was angry and said to him, "Hey! That's the guy that killed Robin!". again, the last time i saw that special was about a year ago, so that could be a paraphrase, but the effect is still the same.

I think it's a great idea. Just make sure the Jason has a green domino mask and the Dick has a black mask - that will help differentiate them.
Dick
Jason

I like it! At this point I just want a classic Robin even if it isn't Tim.

I'd certainly buy those. Classic Dick and Jason figures sound awesome!
