2009 EDIT: It's obvious now that the remaining Super Powers characters should all be on the "no-brainers" list, along with other themes and characters that have become apparent within the past year. But I don't want to revise the list now; rather, I will still keep this going, just for the heck of it and see where we end up, based on what we knew and assumed at the point when the line began.

Inspired by this thread: http://www.thefwoosh.com/forum/viewtopi ... sc&start=0 , I started thinking about what we can realistically expect to see over the next few years in DCUC. Using the basis that the line will succeed and Mattel will produce roughly 200 individual figures before the contract is up (whether they be unique characters, costumes, or variants), I started breaking down the character list into what we logically should see produced within the next few years.

By taking into account:

- a character's popularity and/or visibility within the DCU
- the use and re-use of existing tooling/sculpts
- appealing designs and costumes that would translate well to figure form

The following list is what I came up with. I know I forgot a few characters too. Granted, this is a total guess and a good solid waste of a lunch hour so take it as you will. Some of your favorite characters may not be near the top, but I tried to take an educated guess on how Mattel and the 4H would decide who would get the top 200 spots, when taking into account the criteria mentioned above.

- - - - -

no-brainers - these are 100% guaranteed to be released, based on logic and what Mattel/4H has mentioned:

Batman classic black/grey repaint
Batman Knightfall armor
Big Barda
Blue Beetle
Captain Marvel
Dr. Fate
Flash Barry Allen
Flash Wally West
Green Arrow
Martian Manhunter
Black Canary
Hawkgirl (modern)

Robin Dick Grayson
Green Lantern John Stewart
The Question (classic)
Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick
Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott

Joker (new sculpt)
Black Adam
Captain Cold
Man-Bat (brown)
Parademon
Poison Ivy
Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash (classic)
Zoom (modern)

_____
26 figures here
(5 removed after SDCC = 21 characters remaining)
(2 removed, wave 8 = 19 remaining)
(3 removed, wave 9 = 16 remaining)
(5 removed after SDCC = 11 remaining)
(5 removed in 2010 = 6 remaining)
(2 removed after SDCC 2011 = 4 remaining)
(2 removed after SDCC 2012 = 2 remaining)
- - - - -

excellent chance of being made - these are near the top of the list of B- & C-list characters. These are the characters that always topping fans' wish-lists. Also included are logical repaints of the Trinity, main supporting cast, and characters that are constantly requested for various DC teams. I would think 90% of these will make it into the line before it is over:

A solid chance of being made - these are right in the middle to the bottom of the B- & C-list characters. Fan favorites and recognizable names, and characters that round out the rosters of various teams. We might see some of these as variants of other figures. These have an above-average chance of making the cut into the line, but this is where a good chunk of the cut-off occurs.

A 50-50 shot - these are right in the maybe/maybe not range. There are definitely some recognizable names and big fan favorites, but are they really what could be considered to be in the top 200 of the DCU? Maybe. I am guessing we see more than a few of these, but this list is really hit-or-miss.

A whopping 238 figures here, plus the above lists = 403 total.
(238 figures here, 0 removed after SDCC + above = 391 total remaining)
(235 figures here, 3 removed after wave 8 + 9, + above = 374 total remaining)

(224 figures here, 3 removed for wave 13 + above = 338 total remaining)
(207 figures here, 17 removed for 2010/2011 + above = 291 total remaining)
(204 figures here, 3 removed after SDCC 2011 + above = 276 total remaining)
(197 figures here, 7 removed after SDCC 2012 + above = 260 total remaining)

We are already way passed the possible number of slots filled, so many of these will not make it. Unless Mattel renews that contract...

- - - - -

Doubtful of being made - these we probably are not gonna see. Some have unique tooling size and/or sculpt, which already puts them in a tough spot. Some are just too obscure or unknown, and some just seem too bland visually to make into a figure. There are some great characters here, but I will be really surprised (but happy) to see any these. I just do not think it is gonna happen for this crew.

Agent Liberty

Great list! Now, because I saw his name on your list, I really want Jack O' Lantern. :D

I didn't notice modern Giganta. That's okay though, if we got Giganta, we'd probably only get one. I think most people want Classic anyway.

Also, you had Toyman listed but didn't say what version. If we get Toyman, I want Superfriends style.

Nice work Superfly.

It will be fun to look at this in 4 or 5 years...you will have to remind me then...

No matter what happens each of us will have a list of characters that we will wish would have been made...

Well personally I hope Spoiler jumps from the bottom list to at least the 50/50 list- I mean she was a Robin for a run of issues. And I think the way they are pushing her the past couple of months she may have a chance--

Ive been wondering if that just because they planned it all along-- or in response to all the womens groups that complained about how she was "killed".

Well, Superfly, you may want to look into getting out more... ;)

But seriously, I think your list is pretty good. I have a few disagreements, naturally.

Wonder Girl (Cassie) is appearing in Infinite Heroes, so she is definitely on Mattel's radar. I would say she has as good a chance to appear as Superboy (Kon-El) and a much better chance than either Oracle (lady in a wheelchair?) or Lois Lane (lady in a smart dress suit?). Just noticed that you have Lois listed as both having a "great chance" and a "50/50 shot." Pick one!

I love that you have Zauriel so high on the list. I think that they'd be fools to not use the wings they've sculpted over and over again, so that puts characters like him, Hawkgirl, and other winged folks at a great advantage. A 4H Zauriel would probably be one of the most beautiful action figures ever. Seriously.

I also think that there are some great possibilities for all the humanoid Green Lantern characters. John, Kyle, and Abin are shoo-ins since they require minimal new tooling, and Guy is popular enough to warrant the small additions required to make him right. The only GLs that I think would pose a real problem are Mogo (obviously) and Salaak.

Fly, where are these 'want lists' you are pulling these names from? Have there been any DCUC polls, like the DCSH one we ran at AFI in 2007 or AFI's just ended JLU poll, to gage fan demand of one character over another?

I think swamp thing and a well done c&c plastic man might be the thing that makes me finally start buying this line. I've recently been considering just buying the Super Powers ones, but I'm still on the fence. those two, however, would probably push me over.

I like these lists, but I would say that for the most part, as far as character selection goes, if a character has been made in the JLU line then its a given that it will show up in DCUC. Then its just a case of what "comic only" characters or story specific costumes are there to be done.

i think the justice lords have a higher chance of being made because the were in JLU.

This isn't a "want list" - it's just a list of the most common DCU characters, organized by my own logic of what will likely be released. It's not based on any polls. Did you even read the post?

Personally I would love to see TNT, Air Wave and Silent Knight. But with only roughly 200 or so spots to fill over the next 4 years of the Mattel contract, the chances of seeing these are slim.

I mostly did this to show how quickly those spots fill up when listing out the DCU.

Hmmmmm... I like the lists in general, but I have obscure fan favorites that I hope get made despite their lack of visibility in comics (Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers come to mind).

Right now, two figures I really want to see are Captain Marvel and Plastic Man, both of whom are comic characters that my Grandfather knows. Glad to see that you think both of them will almost certainly be made.

DC just launched a new House of Mystery title under the Vertigo imprint. If the ban on Vertigo characters is legitimate, then Mattel might not be able to make them.

However, I do have some questions about the Vertigo ban that I brought up in the Mages, Mystics & Magicians thread.
